I've been playing ffxiv some here and there and it seems to be pretty laggy in some area's (far worse than whitegate ever was). Also the load times on cut-scenes can be pretty long.

Specs:

Windows XP
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Dual Core Processor 4400+
2.31GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
Directx9

Now I know my graphics card is outdated and needs an upgrade. Which I plan to, but I'm just wondering if I'll need to upgrade anything else? Thanks

Edit - also I've been running the game on the lowest settings.

I'd also upgrade the CPU if you can, but that will lead to a new motherboard and maybe new RAM depending on your RAM and what you get.

Graphics card should be all you really need to upgrade though. My media PC is only slightly better in the CPU department, but it's got a better card(GTS 250) and I can run the game in 1080p at near-max settings.

my game keeps crashing :( I wanted to test it out on my husbands gaming spec PC but the update is stuck at 99.9% and maintenance starts in an hr lol

The crashing doesn't have anything to do with your computer, really; I have a high-end gaming PC and it crashes a bunch on mine. It's just a little unstable right now.

There's another maintenance?

I may need to upgrade mine as well. The game runs fine, but the cutscenes have lag.

Edit: If you mean the maintenance at "8:00 PDT" that was earlier today. Otherwise, their site doesn't say anything about another maintenance <_<;.

oh maybe so, the first time I logged in this evening I didn't see it, but when I crashed and relogged in, I saw about maintenance, maybe I read it wrong.

I believe I read somewhere that the beta client doesn't optimize itself to your system on startup either, so you might have to go in and manually adjust graphics settings.

I'm running a Nividia 9500 series graphics card with a 2.13 Ghz duo core processor w/ 1.99 GB RAM.

I probably need a RAM upgrade, what do you guys think?

Graphics card definitely, The rest you should be fine to play the game. You won't be able to max out all of the graphics options, but you'll get close. RAM you'll have to stop at 3GB unless you have a 64-bit system.

So which graphics card would you recommend?

And I just bought the 9500 series not too long ago too. ; ;

I've got a GTS 250 in a computer with a similar setup to yours. It runs the game smoothly at medium-high settings. I'm not sure how much higher you'd need to go to run at max. I have a computer with a GTS 285 that can run at max, but it's also got an i7 processor and 6GB of RAM; so I'm not sure how big of a leap you'd need to make in hardware.

I've got the following:

GPU: nVidia Geforce GT 220
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo [email protected] GHz
RAM: 3 gig
32 bit windows vista

I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade my video card definitely, and along with that I'll need a bigger power supply. My thing is... is it worth it to upgrade just that, when my PC is already 4 years old? Or should I just save up and buy that gamer dragon 8000 PC at cyperpowerpc I wanted XD

Just bought a Nvidia GTX 460, that should most definitely do the trick. Comes in on Monday or Tuesday, I'll post on how much it helped then.

I still have a GeForce 8800 GTX and the game runs just fine. Not at maximum settings I must admit but it's comfortable enough at Mid Settings. And from what I understand the "8" series cards like I have are worse/older than the "9" series like Sirjarvis has? Someone correct me if i'm wrong though.

They're older, but you had a better model of the 8 series than he has in the 9 series. The 8800 GTX was one of the best models they made that year, whereas the 9500 is a more entry-level model from the following year; so your card is still better than Sirjarvis' 9500.

Well, I've decided on a GTS 250 graphics card and 2 extra gigs of RAM as upgrades. That should help things out a bit.

Do you have a 64-bit operating system? I thought the cap for 32-bit systems was 3 gigs of RAM.
