I was scared to death I'd be looking for a new craft by the end of the day, but I'm glad to see I had nothing to worry about. I think the new fishing system rocks. It's a lot of fun, and it doesn't take nearly as long to reel one in as I thought it would. It'll take longer to get my Lu Shang's, but not that much longer.

Best of all? I love being able to see what other people catch. A bunch of us were fishing on the dock there in Port Sandy where the moat carp brothers are. It was great. We were clapping and congratulating each other every time one of us caught a gold carp.

My linkshell had been discussing putting together a fishing trip at some point. Now, knowing we can actually tell what the others are catching, the idea has even greater appeal.

It hurts getting 10 gil for a moat carp intead of 100, but I'm after the rod and not the money. If I wanted the gil I'd have been selling them for 4-5k a stack at the auction house. 8)

By the way, if you have any cooking skill there's a lot of money to be made in insect paste for the next few days while people go nuts trying this out. Songi said he can't make the stuff fast enough.

Lol, I'm just kidding, I seriously cannot make this stuff fast enough, paste sells within 5 minutes. This made getting from 19-29 in cooking insanely easy. I love this patch, it's also causing me to make money off of something else...hehe. I'm going to try out fishing tomorrow.

It's really too early to tell for me.

I used to fish while reading comics or watching something on the other PC, that is not possible anymore. Also, now it will be next to impossible to fish on both PCs.

Catch about as much fish as pre-update, but it takes a lot more effort. Forced me to install my GameCube-controller on my PC, so I can use that to control the rod, keyboard would've given me carpal tunnel.

Guess I will have to change my approach to fishing, I will still mainly fish when LFG or do skillup sessions. I hope I get some skill fishing today.

Turned the fishing guild area into a ghost town. :)
 
I pointed and laughed at the immobile fishbots near the guild today.
That felt good :lol:

Also it's funny to see what fish people are catching up. There was a lot of /laugh and /comfort going, like when someone caught 5 kelps in a row then 1 gil and another 3 kelps :lol:

On topic, I like this new fishing system. I was able to reel in about 80-90% of the fish ^^

But...

My hand ached after one hour of pressing the same two buttons over and over again :(
 
I haven't had a chance to fish since the update, but from what my brother told me, it sounds like it made it alot less boring, and more interesting. I think I may have to start fishing again, lol.
 
I love it. Only fished a little bit, but I catch more nebis per boat trip than I used to with the old system. And nebi prices are going up at an insane rate (17k last night in Jeuno).

Life is good...

Downside? Can't talk on LS while fishing as easily, and I have to focus on the game more. The plus side, though, is that I can actually tell when I catch something (the music changes to battle music, so I don't have to listen for that rod creak, and I don't get my rod creak confused with someone else's). I've lost several catches due to not paying enough attention to the game.

Unfortunately, I've heard that some people are still able to make a bot program for this... :/
 
I hate it. Sure, fishing is harder to bot now, but it's also more boring to me. Why? I used to catch up on my reading when I fished. Read a line, glance at the screen, rince, repeat. I could read a short story, or a chapter, and half a full stack of fish.

Now I have to stare at the screen, get bored while I wait for a catch that I probably won't even reel in, then fight with the fish for 20 seconds to a minute, to not even get it.

This bites.
 
You can still read while playing. Just keep your headphones on/music turned up, and be ready to press keys when you catch something. The game music changes to battle music when you catch a fish, so it's really easy to notice.
 
Er..I really don't know what changed in it..anyone wanna fill me in?
 
it rocks...now i dont have to sit there bored out of my mind...i finally decided to get my fishing to 8. gonna go take the guild test tomorrow ^^

That would require me to listen to the FFXI music. I always have the TV on, or my iPod playing with headphones on.

Seems I'm the only person who dislikes this though...
 
Well, can't really help you there... :P

I pretty much always listen to the game music/sound effects (although I don't sometimes now because one of my cats chewed through the cord on my old headphones and the new ones I've got hurt my ears -.- ).
