What has this game come to?

Agreed, I've seen many thieves put well geared DD's to shame. But the main reason why most people don't know this, is because thf takes more attention and gear to put out those numbers. Say you compare jade playing on sam, then on thf. He will obviously do better on sam because there is nothing to it. And fail as thf because he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and can't manage to land a single SA/TA. Now over time that is all people see throughout their gameplay. Sam's generally making their parties better, and thf slowing it down. Same for every underrated job. It just boils down to what jobs are easier to play, such as swinging until you can ws. Also 2hd jobs have room to be more gimp because of the large acc bonus, not to mention the huge acc bonus for single hit weaponskills.

There are most definitely more gimps than skilled players in this game. So the general population goes "ooohh sam is good!", when really they just have no idea what is better or worse.

I don't think it's being oblivious to other job capabilities, it has to do with the unknown factors. If you see a THF seeking who you don't know, never partied with, and know nothing about, and you see a SAM seeking who you don't know, never partied with or know nothing about, it makes a lot of sense to take the clearer, safer route and invite a job that can outperform most others with the bare minimum of gear.

I'd rather buy into the stereotype of SAM > all and get decent EXP than wind up with, say, JRS on THF in my party.

@Tarizu: Everyone's gotta start somewhere on the gear chain, man. Not having haidate just means you haven't gotten them yet, and the fact you know you don't have them and that you should is a step up. See also JRS arguing that DOMARUUUUUUUUU is better than a hauby.

I probably worded it odd, but I completely agree with what your saying. I used to invite the same way. Just think it sucks for people that are skilled and geared for the job they play, yet get picked over by some gimp sam or war. I think in ffxiv there should be a way of checking gear before you invite someone, even if you are no where near them. Just some option through /search. I realize you can have good gear and still be an idiot, but it would help somewhat.

I've heard of a bard who makes players show their gear swaps before being invited. Great idea if you ask me. Checking someone from across the globe would be way easier though.

Where is this bard? I want to worship him.

So we need something like WoW Armory? I saw a lot of guilds/pickup groups in WoW threatened to check Armory for gear before inviting someone.

The FFXIAH site has a sort-of similar feature, but I could say that I've got full Armada-set there and nothing can stop me.

Still, it's not a bad idea. I liked WoW's armory for being able to look at /exactly/ what people have at their disposal. It's a little easier for WoW, though. No gearswaps.

I love gear swaps though, that made ffxi so much more fun.

This isn't an xp situation, but it's somethin that really got on my nerves last time I was doing sky/events:

/dnc . . .

Yes. we're all aware that you can keep yourself alive in Campaign as DD/dnc and that the sneaks and invises for travel are free, but if you're headed to an event, we got somethin else in mind for that tp you're savin up to cure your own ass with . . .

Not really on topic here, but while I was exping my nin I loved haing a good puppetmaster. They had the hateless flash. It saved me many times when Ichi was being a bitch. Also in sky farming /dnc is just fine. We had like only 2 mages, so the /dnc was keeping the other group alive while we fought the NM's. It is more about a player being able to use the job well. I also did ACP with a bst. We did the fight in fei'yin. He was kiting 2 monsters easy. USed to bring him in on brothers enm before our mate got blm to 75. He could kite Minder forever. Skill > gear. I do agree with SJ or gtfo. erase <3

Yeah, I agree - /dnc is fine for sky farming, but I'm talkin about some people who used it for everything. It amazes me that anyone would even consider bringin /dnc to fight gods/sea gods.

omg he seems quite angry lol. I really perfer to only exp with my friends because it doesn't feel right to exp with random people because those parties are always either boring or end up made of fail.

To some extent yes but in FFXI you do a hell of a lot more gear swapping. I had massive amounts of swapping on BLM/BRD/WHM/RDM because each piece was helpful in it's own way depending on what spell/song I was casting. A Rogue in WoW (for example) can wear the same thing while doing anything in regards to PVE depending on their spec. If you look up Decidence on WoWarmory.com he can either be wearing full PVP or PVE gear, if you want to invite someone to a raid and they logged out in their PVP gear, you're SoL in knowing what they have because it's just a SS of what they were last wearing when logged out.

There is an addon in WoW that has it so you can see someone's gear level so you know if it's below a certain number, they shouldn't be in the specific raid.

That and you still have people that have great gear but their skill is just horrendous. You get this in pretty much every game because there are people (especially certain classes) that get carried because they are hard to find.

(To anyone who knows WoW gear scores - an example of this is http://armorylite.com/us/bloodscalp/hubele very good gear but couldn't even pull 3k DPS in ICC 25)

This is nothing new lol, seen this from when I first started playing till the day I quit. And I would call them out as you do, maybe that's why people thought I was an ass.

No you really were a piece of shit Ice ;)

And yeah basically what Ice said, I saw this shit back in like 2005, and even then it was the same excuse. "I'm just leveling this for my JOB sub, I don't care if it's gimp." And at the same time use some horrible equipment, like lizard skin set and some POS level 20 weapon at 35.

Lol I cant remember how many times I saw gimp ninja's at 32 in garlage partys saying "I'm only leveling this to 37 for Ni then I'm quitting this damn job!"

They'd have bad gear and knew nothing about tanking, I always hoped SE would raise the level ninja's got Ni to 38 just so that the only people that got to use faster shadows were ninja's taking their main job up. ^^

Lol yeah I remember those days, or the dorks leveling the oh so famous WHM25/BLM5 in the jungle.

Guilty, but only did so in static parties. Also, my personal favorite on Ninja pre-37 was to skill up my throwing with my Chakram and Boomerangs.

I don't get people who don't buy at least decent gear for subs. You can sell it back anyway lol. I don't wish they'd raise Ni to 38 because that would make NIN sub suck for the most part. I do wish people would gear jobs well even if it's a sub though.

I can't not gear sub-jobs properly, even if it's for one level. The only exception (which unfortunately is rather common) is when the AH has nothing available remotely decent for your level and you're left with something 15 levels below what you should be wearing, but in that case I'll usually wear nothing. It doesn't happen often though, I have about 40 different gear types in npc storage so I rarely have to be nakkie when levelling a job for sub or just for the hell of it.
