What's the best subjob for DRK?

I'm using /RNG through the 20's and I'm told that from 30 onwards you'll want to stick firmly in the /war, /thf, /nin camps, depending on situations.

The /rng subjob gives you an ACC bonus, plus if you're hurting for TP, you can use Sharpshot to get some good Ranged attack TP. The +ACC also means you can think about stacking more +STR gear and food, rather than looking for +ACC. This honeymoon only lasts for the 20-30 stretch, but as soon as you hit 30, your choices narrow.

Keep in mind that until 60 /THF is a really good way to steal hate and get killed. Or at least take some damage you might not otherwise be taking, using more MP and slowing down your WHM, and thus slowing exp. If you have Big Number Syndrome, /THF is your baby.

WAR offers you the best bonuses you can pay out over time. Last Resort, then when it wears, Berserk. You get Double Attack at 50, that kind of thing. It'll help you avoid Big Number Syndrome (BNS) if you play it that way.

There was a pretty indepth study of DRK subjobs at Allakhazam.
I'm fairly certain it covers every subjob barring the ToAU ones.

Speaking of which, soloing to 20 DRK with /BLU was awesome.

DRK/DRG for the pure emo feeling it gives you.

Feeling a bit down? souleater+jump near the edge of something deep and/or sharp and it will have you feeling better in no time!

66 for light WS SC but 60 still good for /thf

The age of Drk/Nin is over. I dont know why people still sub it. /nin was most profound in sky weapon parties where Whirl of Rage aoe would rape+stun the party. Here shadows were very useful.

However most of the mobs people merit on in ToAU, /war is a lot better. It does a lot more damage than /nin, and the mobs dont last long enough to do much significant dmg to the drk, if any at all. /nin is only good for those who can't control their hate as drk/war.

/NIN is still usefull, as you taking hate with /WAR means you'll become an MP sponge. /NIN effectively makes you take little to none damage when you DO take hate.

besides, DRK/NIN for HNM's while dualwielding kraken and ridill = hellova lot of damage and suicide mission.

I already stated that you -should- be able to control your hate if you are going drk/war. Its really not hard to hold off your ws till the mob is at 50% when the mob gets down there in 5 seconds.

And I if you are going for souleater on HNMs, then a solo kraken would do more dmg than kraken + ridill.

/War is the best. period. Your WS may do more damage with /thf, but overall DoT is far greater with /War. I laugh everytime I see some newb subbin Thf pre-60, they just lose so much damage and TA doesn't stack that great with the pre-60 crap WSs for Drk.

Even post 60, Sata doesn't help that much with guil, though it does stack well with the moons if you have GS levelled. The only real reason to sub thf is hate control and survivability.

drk/war for merit ... nothing like doing 450+ crit hit with souleater on ^^

O.K thanks everyone, I originally started playing the game hoping to become a PLD/WAR. When leveling MNK as a sub for WAR, I relized being a DD was cooler. I'm gonna use WAR as sub for my DRK since most of you say it is best (at least for a while), and i already have started to level it.

I could be misunderstanding the nature of DRG a little but it doesn't seem to be like THF would be a viable pick of WAR for sub. For a few reasons.

1. The nature of DRG WS and the way SATA affects multihit WS vs single WS seems to minimize the bonus gained.

2. DRG seems to want to be able to gain hate as well as lose it to effectively work with other skillchain partners who would do the SATA.

3. DRG WS are not particulary powerful, hence DRG would normally start any skillchain if you want the best damage. Ending the skillchain is for people with spike damage like THF for example because the skillchain bonus is passed along from there.

My DRG is level 1, and all my melee jobs past 24 are tanks, so take that with a grain of salt. But it's how my reasoning works out.

G != K

Dark knight, not dragoon.

Unless you're replying to some random post in this topic about DRG/THF, that I overlooked. (In which case quoting is nice to avoid confusion.)

why's that? you'd still attack without stop, and you vorpal blade > any club WS except for hexa strike with Soul Eater

why? because the souleater is about the number of hits you can do. your dmg will be based completly on souleater, and not any ws or anything.

1 solo kraken club will do more swings vs a kraken + ridill because of the extra delay but less hits of the ridill. Overall you will have less swings. Solo kraken is the best for Souleater rape

Well, it depends. The delay with a suppanomimi will be bout 400 total versus 264 on kraken club. Not sure it would really matter that much as both have a very high activation rate. I'm sure your accuracy wouldn't be the best with a kraken club either, as the club skill is lower then that of a RDM's sword skill <.<;

souleater can cover up the accuracy lost :P

raises damage, yes, but it won't raise the accuracy o.O; wouldn't souleater be better with 100% accuracy then 75%? :P

DRK/NIN is far from over. Brutal earring is something sweet...

Go download Bismarck's IRON Jailer of Love video.

Notice how Exoduso hardly ever stops attacking, sometimes hitting 2-3 times with the sword > around 5-7 times with club (only 7 hits max with DW) > directly back to the Ridill with no delay > directly back to the club with no delay.
When the multiple hits proc, the delay is written over in which the club can start attacking before the swords animation is finished. And visa versa. Haste is a beautiful thing Ty ;p

Do you realize how much dmg the Ridill alone does? 250-400(crits) Depending on HP.

I believe the only good time to solo the club is with /DRG for a 1k+ Jump.

Souleater raises accuracy, by a lot, if you didnt know.

Also overall, kraken would beat out a sword because sword skill is only 240 for drks and kraken is 220. But kraken swings so much more, overtime it would easily overtake ridill combo because of the number of swings.

In Response to Dowzer:
No matter what you can do with a drk/nin, you can do it better with a Drk/war using scythe. The 36 skill makes a big difference.

Also, yeah I suppose haste helps ridill...but solo kraken would attack -that- much faster with haste.

I highly doubt you'd ever stop attacking with ridill + kraken anyway, so I don't see why it would matter o.O;

and no, I didn't know that :P
