what is this person thinking?

Seriously, the only reason its called a Skillchain is because its called a Weaponskill, which requires Weapon Skill points to learn. Its yoru character's skill, not your own. Only "skill" involved is pressing your WS macro X seconds after someone else used their WS. I'm sure a 5 year old could do that if you told him to press those 2 buttons when he see flashy lights on the screen.

And Im sure you knew exactly how to play FFXI as you do now when you first started the game

/sigh my own personal flame got deraield ... hahah ok now i guess i can join in on the topic

Skill.. yes I hate to disagree with you Uzor but thier is acutally a lot of skill involved in this game..
You say it jsut pusing macros at certain times .. well that is a basic skill..

why can some partyies rock and some suck? becasue of hte people involved KNOWING when to rect on every stiuation.

if there is noskill in this game "theortically" lets give eveyrone acess to an account EXACTLY like avesta's now since hters no skill EVERYONES should be able tosolo everyting he does right?? ..
I thought noot , only a handfeul of experience RDMs will be abel to do it.. Only those who are smart enough to make theright macros for the fight. those who know these macros bye heart and when to execute them is suceeed. Avesta uses a lot of "cecelation" techniques.. blms and rdms use this a lot when soloing. its getting the timing down of when exactly is optimal time to flow into the nextspell, thus saving casting time.. Aslo hters the cancelation technique of changing gears to skip animation. you have to do it exactly right time and then you can go in next spell.

w/o skill none of this is possible, you would fumble and die fast. It is a video GAME after all, and to win you need a certain amount of skill.

Just like irl how does a 50 year old ex navy seal beat the crap out of a 21 year old kid in perfect conditon who is in his prime??
its all about skill. sorry if shitty post no time to edit camping ungur rightnow

I stopped reading at like page 9. There isnt alot of skill involved in this game. There is however ALOT of knowledge involved, from which you gain the basic shit like equip change macros, strats, how to play your job and proper character gear set ups. only real skill is knowing when to press buttons, remove effects hand eye coordination blah blah blah, and thats all minor at best

Goes back to what DarkFec just said, if you read everything about ff11 (guide noob) and given every piece of gear in the game (buy gil), could you solo hak, genbu, or even a avatar prime on your 1st day? Do pro gamers have skill or just have a high iq?

yeah, what people dont seem to be understanding is that knowledge IS a skill... Without knowledge of something... What could you do? Umm.. Nothing, lol.

People dont get their jobs because they know how to count, or they know how to push a button. They get their jobs because they KNOW how to perform well in the field they are in. Whats another way of saying this?

They are skilled at their job.

So, someone whos arguing against the game requiring skill.. Please define the word, lol.

If you look really close at Fred Durst's face you will not only go blind but get an in depth look and what absolute 100% pure garbage looks like.

First off, I'm tired of people who haven't soloed Hakutaku or a god talking about it like its common place, because yeah, in those fucking rare cases I would call that skill, I'd call that mad skill, but as I'm sure you've noticed your average not named Avesta player doesn't do that shit, although there are many good players on this server as well, who speak english and could attest to what I'm saying. Back on my topic Knowledge would be knowing how to increase you maximum DoT/WS/Spell landing or w/e mages do with usage of abilities and available gear as well as knowing which gear to buy to get maximum effect for you gil or R/ex camping time. Where as skill would be the ability to flawlessly kite/DoT something overpowering, although you could argue that it is good support if they are not doing it solo, which I won't, You could argue MBing is a skill as well although it seems more correct to call it a knowledge thing as you just have to know about spell casting time verses the MBing in the window that the skillchain creates.

Your merit Party rocked because your warriors knew to Merit sword to 8/8 before dawning that Ridill, Your DM was a success because you knew how to beat it(or because you used enough BLMs to win it in 30 seconds, not quite my cup of tea) You survived the link because your RDM knew to use gear swapping macro's to get out of his main healing gear and into his enfeebling set. ect ect. Often I find People will use skill as a crutch to avoid facing up to the fact that perhaps there gear isn't that gear(I'm not going to be calling them gimp, just unenlightened. I myself was guilty of this and always wondered why people would say that theres no skill in this game.) Although this perhaps is negative to my point, I will attest that some jobs require skill at least without the best possible gear and all that (like tanking on ninja back when I lvled and didnt have all the nice junk I have now)

They are not one in the same. Knowledge is overall understanding of your job, its abilities, its function, etc. Skill is the application of that knowledge. You cannot have skill without knowledge, but you can certainly know all there is to know about your job and still not be able to put it into action.

Oh and here you are:

1. the ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well:

Without knowledge in the specified area, you cannot perform well. You need knowledge of that area to perform skillfully. I may have been working up the tree backwards, instead of down, but without knowledge, you cannot have skill.

Also, just to throw a few more of the definitions of skill:

2. competent excellence in performance; expertness; dexterity

4. Obsolete. understanding; discernment.

These clearly define playing the jobs in ffxi

I should show him my normal lv 40 gear for the PCC bcnm. oh wait.. I dont wear anything.....

FFXI = skill, bitches

No matter how 'easy' you think it is, it's still a learned skill that any new character won't know of.
