God damnit, qcdn ate my post -.- gunna try and rewrite it.

I voted paladin mostly because I'm biased and love being one.

It's a bitch to level 70-75 and keep up with buffer though when most of the server has this attitude. Then we go and die for you doing HNMs and stuff and have to get that EXP back. THANKS GUYS!

I can get pretty quick exp in sky with just about any setup. RNG cannons seem to be exceptionally good as they can sub war and not worry about getting raped with berserk up. And if they do pull hate by doing an obscene amount of damage within the first few seconds of engaging, I can cover them and probably get hate back before cover wears off.

I have a pseudo-attack setup I use on weapons. I hit with pretty good accuracy and for 50-70 damage a hit not counting crits. I also do pretty consistant 300ish damage weapon skills (which isn't too bad for a pld... and I only have about +14 str). I do this without being hit too much harder (maybe 5-10 dmg a hit at the most) and keeping hate better than a traditional setup. With the right gear (PCC, Hauby, stuff like that) a Paladin could probably do pretty damn good damage, and still be able to tank well thanks to our naturally high VIT.

Paladins also have the ability to gain huge amounts of exp per hour like nins do. Go to KRT with a rdm or whm, brd, 3 mnks, and use a kinkobo(I think that's how it's spelled...) with capped staff and eat sushi. With spirit taker on bones you should be able to get away without refresh and the damage you'll do by using blunt vs. bones will keep the exp rolling. The mobs can also be paralyzed once or twice a fight. I haven't used staff in KRT (only 169 =/) but I've done S+S. My damage sucked, but I was able to hold hate for the majority of the fights.

Now I also enjoy playing as nin. I think that they have the potential to gain more exp/hour than plds but it's debateable if both are pimped out depending on the zone you go to. I want to get nin to 75 and have it be my merit whore simply because parties are so hard to make/join as a pld because everyone seems to hate us, but then magically love us when it comes to end-game.

I just have to get a few mil gil for the gear first lol

Cannon parties are different than most XP parties, which is why just about everyone agrees that 90% of XP parties are faster with NIN.

I don't think anyone would disagree that cannon parties are fast. ^^

But I can also get good exp with let's say... pld, whm, brd, blm, thf, and sam on golems... it all depends on how focused I am and how good the other members are. Positioning with a thf and brd can be a bitch to say the least but if we all know wtf is going on we can still pull out pretty good exp.

Sure, but we're now we're talking 74-75/merited players, versus the entire road 1-75+.

...And pretty good doesn't equal great.
Pretty good, is pretty good. But there's a difference.

well 10-37 pld beat nin hands down in my opinion. War/mnk may be better, but just talking about pld and nin, pld > nin pre-ni.

37-47 (level of my nin currently) is about the same. Maybe a little faster on my nin, but the parties I usually get like to fight things I can't tank well because they're a lot higher level so I get the living shit beaten out of me which can cause some serious down time. I'm sure 50-70 will be a blur on nin just like it was on pld. Hell, it may be even easier because I won't have to time my vokes and shit so I can purposely lose hate for SATA Skillchains.

I think it all really depends on the setup and where you go, but generally (from what I've seen) a pld can do just as well at least 37-70 as a nin can, as long as neither are complete idiots. Well-equipped plds can tank higher level mobs than nins can as long as the DDs can still do good damage to them. Nins can fight lower level mobs than plds can and have the fights over quicker. Both get you damn good exp as long as your DD are good. Shit, I remember constant chain 5s with no down time at all at some level (can't really remember which... 50's I think).

As it's been mention before, it all depends on the setup and what you're fighting. Nins can tank goobs better than plds. Plds can tank raptors better than nins.

This all changes after 70 though. Plds are still good tanks after then, you just have to go to the right place.

Well I love PLDs, and staticed with one for 30+ levels.
Every experience I have had with a NIN versus PLD has been gaining faster XP, unless the NIN was just utterly worthless...And that happened to me about as many times as I had bad PLDs.

But you are right, the success of the party is highly dependent on where you go to fight, and the party set up.

There are of people here that agree that NIN is te faster XP, but still choose PLD as their tank of choice. "Which tank would you choose for XP?" is different than "Which tank gets faster XP?"...
The simple fact that NINs get the faster XP, seems to have been the focal point for PLDs to try and counter. But look at the voting. NINs are ahead, but it's by 15%, not a landslide.

If the question was, "Which tank gets faster XP?" it would be a landslide.
If the question was, "Which tank is naturally tougher?" it would be a landslide.

I just think that plds are more rounded with what setups they can use and where they can go than nins are.

Well, they are walking bricks. ^^

But I think the success of NINs speaks for itself.

My favorite thing about PLDs is it's always an amusing experience with them. Perhaps its because they don't need to maintain such a stressful focus on what they are does at each moment, but they have always been good for a laugh. I can safely say, not counting PTs with my friends, that I have the most fun in PTs with PLD tanks. Something about that job makes people want to RP it, even if only just a little.

MONGO SMASH!

well I guess having pld keep you guys something to do lol

if NIN tank too damn good, and WHM there got nothing to do, only doing haste, and maybe trying to enfleeb the energy, you gonna bored the whm to death and maybe fall asleep in a pt

it happen to me when i exp with my whm lol, well not falling asleep but, that tank tank so well, i really don't need to cure anyone, only thing I need to do is haste the pt that need it, try to enfeeb the mob and after that doing nothing, and is really boring most of the time

having pld in a pt, keep me focus, and have something to do, so it won't be that too boring, and also help me get healing skill up faster

Thats why most ppl use a SMN in High lvl parties( I don't think a SMN is a Healer but.), he can give the -ga avatar spells and cure, while a RDM or BRD can keep refresh and enfeebles and buffs. IMO off course. ^^

If I have a NIN tank, I tend to fall asleep, and I like to earn my EXP.

Gods aren't anything compared to the real HNMs. Sorry to burst that bubble.

We're talking about things that requires alliances to beat, with people in reserve, not 1 Party NMs that make King Arthro look threatening. Things that have abilities that just L-O-L at Utsusemi.

Tanking Byakko is comparable to tanking KA? Ummm...ok.

What are these real HNMs you speak of, and are you implying nin couldnt tank them? Fafnir? I've seen nin tank plenty. Nidhogg? Same. Tiamat? Same. Jorm? Same. Vrtra? Shit I've even heard of nins kiting him. So uh...what are these "real" HNMs?
