you know how there are those so called "Gateway drugs" right? well, what was your gateway anime? The series that sucked you into the crazy otaku world... it always holds a special place in the hearts of anime fans, no matter how silly it may seem down the road.

My gateway anime was Blue Seed. It could also have been Fushigi Yuugi, but Blue Seed was the one I watched all the way through for the first time :)

Digimon: Digital Monsters. No lie. That was the opener; the true 'gateway' was probably Naruto - Pre-english translation, of course.

I suppose um... DBZ? I never really liked it, but I gave anime a chance mainly because I had friends who watched anime. Cowboy Bebop is my die hard love drug...

Sigh...this topic brings me a lot of pain.

because I cant remember the animes name. I've been trying to find out for about 9 years what it was called...but no luck yet ;/ I saw it along with other unknown animes like Ninku and Grander Musashi, but I can't remember the first ones name ; ;

DragonBall Z made my friends and I look up other anime.

Digimon and DBZ turned me onto that style of animation, and story development. Say what you want about DBZ, but i love it to this day.

Tekkaman Blade, though I didn't know it was an anime at the time, so it might not count (I didn't even know what an anime was, I was like 7 at the time). The first anime I was really into that I knew for what it was.... was Sailor Moon. Don't judge me.

DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon and Sailor Moon... Yes, I said Sailor Moon as well. Those 4 got me into anime.

OMG Sailor moon was actually my first anime as well. I bought a couple of the mangas just to fill in the story holes too :) Innocent times ^^

Rouroni Kenshin.

Oh, and I think the very first one I ever saw, but didn't particularly like was something I can't remember the name to anymore. Had to do with some highschool kid who's folks were Ninja in a very old age. He wore some armlet that restrained his power to summon the 7 dragon gods. They go on some tournament quest much like uh... what was the name of that show, had Yusuke Yurimeshi... I can't recall. Anyways, the rest of his crew and the rest of the world seemed to use special ninja orbs that gave them magic powers (the reason I didn't like the series much). Seemed pretty cut and dry.

Robotech, definitely. I disliked Minmei from the start and couldn't understand how Rick could be so blind to Lisa's charms. Plus, I just loved Captain Gloval.

"I was just holding it! I wasn't going to light it!"

A close runner-up (the second half of the one-two punch that made me an anime fan) would be Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, although at the time it was the butchered translation known as Warriors of the Wind.

Excel Saga...my friend brought it over my house one day and just the amount of pure randomness made me giggle like a giddy schoolgirl.
