Whats with all the gimps lately?

For the comment about taking 5 hours to farm, and 1 hour to exp, why not a few days of farming, then a day or 2 of exp'ing. Most on this topic are not saying to have all gear you need before you hit the lvl to wear it, just simply to put SOME effort into your gear, instead of rushing to 75 in a hurry ( although I will admit, I think I spent too much time on making gil before getting BLM to 75, pre 65 I usually got a decent amount of compliments on my gear, and most of the time I out DD'd other BLM's I was partying with). Bottom line, if you enjoy a job, wouldnt make sense to spend time saving or camping for good gear, instead of taking time to come up with excuses why you dont have it?

And I don't think that everyone who expects people to have decent(not uber) gear are elitist, they may simply be upset that others have done maybe 1/5 the amount of work on their job.

And they no longer drop Astrals so...
There were never astral rings in the Fei'Yin chests, astrals were in castle oztroja. Life belts are the the Fei'Yin chests, and still are I believe.

Phraust is my new hero.

I'll agree that skill > gear, but there is a basic level you have to meet in order for skill to play any role at all. That level changes depending on your job, with a DD class, the level is much higher than say a whm or a brd. With DD, it's all crunching numbers, each swing is a role of the dice to see if you hit, how hard you hit, do you crit, do they guard/parry/shield block/blink the hit, do any additional effects process? All of that is effected by your gear; you can't just say you're skilled if you mathematically can't do your job.

I completely agree with Phraust, that I'm more irritated by people gimping the jobs that I have leveled than others. I'm sick of seeing monks in akido koshita because they don't want to wear something useful on their leg slot, and they're not secure enough for republican subligar. If they're hell bent on wearing pants, they could wear jujitsu sitabaki, because even those have +1 dex. These are often monks in Scorpion Harnesses, with O. kote and cross-counters, but couldn't spend the 100k on some useful leg armor.

I have never actually seen someone with random thrown-together gear(Moldy earing on whm) or really gimp gear, such as previous-tier NQ rings, actually perform their job well. If someone doesn't care enough to get the right gear for their job or doesn't care to update their gear when it's long past obsolete, why should I trust my time, gil and exp to them? If I don't know someone, their gear is an advertisement for how they play the game; poor gear choices is likely a poor player, and not worth the risk.

Haubergeons used to be relatively cheap. As I was leveling thief I would have easily bought one for the stats that were on it if I could have worn it. However, S-harness was always 2.5 times as expensive as it was, and for 1/3 the stats. It does especially annoy me when wars and sams have horrible gear. It seems that every time you find at a nice and yet relatively affordable piece on the AH, it's war/sam/nin series. Some jobs are cheaper to equip well enough to make them "undetectably inferior," which is what players without the time to farm should be going for. Undetectably inferior doesn't cost much, and really isn't too difficult to achieve. You'll never convince elite that there's nothing they can do that you can't, but the right gear decisions go a long way. It's not a job. It's a game. Play a game.

Edit: and for the record, bounding boots on anyone but a sub-level 30 thief=why. Seriously, it's 3 dex guys. No one but thieves should be out in that field. As a thief you can go bootless past 30 and no one can tell the difference. The things just aren't that good >_>

The dex gives approx 1.5 more accuracy and a slightly higher crit rate. also the Agi improves racc, parry and eva proc rates when you have hate. Most notably this is helpful for rng and nin as well as THF. FOr the other melee jobs its basically the best +stats they can get due to the lack of alternatives at low levels.

3/10 on chyme is pretty good. Even with a thf with TH2 my record is only like 5/400+

That 3/10 on chyme wasnt by himself. I dont know why you said you "soloed" it Khajit when you know that me and Crimsonlord got ppl together from SK to piss off the gilsellers.

I never said i soloed it I merely said I had that as a drop rate one night.

Edit looks like i technically did. I should have seperated those 2 sentences to say i once went 3/10 with lsmates and i also liked to solo claim the chyme for fun

When the best is a piece of crap, though, it's still a piece of crap. Bounding boots are not worth the time it takes to camp and win them. Barely ever were. Now they never are.

Sorry about that. There are many different ways to make gil in this game so I also dont understand why people can't afford somethings? Also, if you really want something you can ask your friends to help you get items. If someone asks me in my ls to help them camp VE or LL I really dont have a problem with it. I used to hate the whole gear>skill thing, but I feel more that you should have BOTH.

Um...some of the highest priced pieces of gear are actually in the MNK/SAM/NIN area. You wanna be a pimp MNK, kotes theres 4-6 mil. Fuma theres 2 more mil, Juji theres 1.4 mil, 2 snipers theres 3mil, STR rings depending on level it can be 300k to 2-3 mil. theres other stuff too but I think I proved my point. Now WAR is cheap but for a few items, but SAM in NIN they fall right in there with MNK as an expenive ass job to equip.

Well, what I want to know is, did you join this game to farm your ass off all the time, or to have fun? Sure to some people farming is fun, and I think thats great for them.

The problem is that with the steady inflation we have had lately, you arent getting your the bang for your buck so to speak.

Example: You used to take about 3-5 hours to come up with 100k gil worth of Fire Crystals, and that usually could buy you anything you needed for the next 5-6 levels. (This is how it was when I started on Hades, up till about level 20 when inflation hit.)

Now it takes forever to get 100k gil worth of Fire Crystals, and even when you do, it wont take you past half-decent armor for your level.

Im not saying Fire Crystals should be your main source of income, Im just using it as an example, but it applies to everything. You spend almost twice as long to farm and sell it, and it doesnt even take you as far as it used to.

I remember I use to level my monk before and most of us had pretty bad gear(well just me mostly) but we still some how managed to get chain 5's and get steady xp even without great gear. This game is not as fun as it use to be becuase of all the elitist pricks that now play it.

Agreed about MNK, except that only stupid gimps wear Fuma Kyahan. BTW, you forgot Brown Belt.

Khajit, I mostly agree with your statements about Hauby, except that STR isn't a damage cap, and Attack doesn't help you reach that cap... STR is used in a function that adds to your weapon's damage, and Attack is another function that generates a multiplier for that damage (between 0.1 and 2.4, if I'm not mistaken).

Chain 5 on T-VTs for 150XP is not chain 5 on ITs for 300+XP. If you've been playing this game enough to 'remember the good old days' I'm not sure why affording upper-middle-class gear at the very least is such a chore.

It's a matter of perspective. I was in a Nest party with some newer X360 players (one of which said it was his first time in the Nest) and they were loving the group. One said it was the best XP he'd seen, ever.

We were getting 3k, maybe 3500/hour. Granted, this isn't a horrible amount of XP, but when you've already seen endgame XP you get used to 5-8k/hour being the norm. They were giddy, and I was looking to get out as soon as possible because 3k/hour isn't worth staying up past midnight for anymore.

Chain 5 on T-VTs for 150XP doesnt mean it's bad xp/hr. it all depends on how fast you doing the chains. Before the xp update, the max xp u could get with chain 5 is exactly 300, could never be 300+.

I know that cannoning T-VTs can lead to good XP - that's not my point. The point is that 2 years ago most parties that could get chain 5 (and let's be fair, there weren't too many of those) were finish with a T -> full rest. Nowadays we CAN cannon T-VT mobs, as well as going through 6 ITs for a chain 5 -> full rest.

What was acceptable XP in the past is no longer acceptable XP now, and what was acceptable gear in the past is no longer acceptable now.

His point was that with the old "standard" before the top players started preaching "everyone must have snipers", "everyone must have a Haubergeon", etc., Chain #5 on T-VT took the same amount of time as Chain #5 on VT-IT-IT+ does now - meaning less XP/hr because the party's equipment simply wasn't good enough to cope.

But why expect people who have only had the game for a month to do as well as people who have had the game for 2 years?

Frankly, applying endgame standards to new players is stupid. NONE OF YOU were that good when you started either, so why crap on the newbs because they don't have the best gear/don't get the best xp/don't know the best ways to make money?

This thread wasn't made to crap on newbies without god gear it was made to crap on people who got to levl 50,60 70+ and wear stuff that is completely shitty. Everyone just keeps on acting like it is even though noone actually says that lowbie people need random 10 milion gil gear X for exp.
A good example would be you wearing eisen gear still at level 75. Yes that is a little extreme but yes people are wearing stuff that shitty which was the entire piont of my original post.

Why did JP ONLY become so huge at NA release? Some people prefer to maximize their time, some don't. It's not their fault they're new, but that doesn't equate to a free pass or an excuse for them to drag a party down when there are better equipped and experienced players that can take their place. This doesn't mean I'm going to boot any X360 players or drag their names through the mud, it just means that, given the choice, I prefer to get the most for my time.
