Whats with all the gimps lately?

But why expect people who have only had the game for a month to do as well as people who have had the game for 2 years?

Frankly, applying endgame standards to new players is stupid. NONE OF YOU were that good when you started either, so why crap on the newbs because they don't have the best gear/don't get the best xp/don't know the best ways to make money?

This isn't a reference to Noobs, this is a reference to people 60+. I've only seen a very small number of players make it to 60+ in only a month or two from their start.

Can you agree that by 60+, you should be more than capable of sustaining yourself to the point of being able to save up for, at the very least, a Haubergeon - without gimping all your other gear (ie selling off Snipers)?

JP only became so huge because it's culturally accepted and in reality it's convenient to speak the same language. We wouldn't dare put no French in our search comments, because we don't value communication. They don't do it because it's a good bet that NA suck. They do it because they prefer the company. We have the reputation of being all about business when it comes to xp. Hush and get the chain. They'll play for an afk xp-er for over an hour. They're not better, just different.

Still can't convince me that it's not easy street to be a good, casual sam/war/nin though. AH doesn't lie, and AH has a whole lot of acc str and att for them, for not a whole lot of gil. Thf and drg are what they are in part because it costs twice as much for half the melee stats. There are born meleers, and there are meleers who development thinks have other roles, just trying to get by in the DD role. Monk I can see being a little expensive to be undetectably inferior, although a monk is a monk is a monk so long as you make the right decisions. But even so, monk is specialized and that seems to jack its price up. Sam/war/nin and drk I can't see as being remotely difficult to do well though. Stand there and DD is all they have to do. They have all the access to all the gear you could ever want or need.

Fortunately for thieves, the thief xp method works (until L62) like a charm no matter what they wear (so long as they make the right acc/att decisions). Can take a crappy thief, put them in the right party, and chain 5 those mid IT's pretty easily.

As for standards increasing, I dunno. I think xp'ing got easier. More abilities were added. XP totals reduced. XP gain increased. Better mob sets added. Better equipment was added. I don't think people's standards have gone up. I think XP is just easier. It's not the gear, it's the mechanics.

Well I think that samis pretty gimp I did. I sis alittle research on a few jobs b4 I lvled them in a rng and Ive notices they ahve some of the lease gear needs out of all the melee jobs. whatever till noct/jse gear then af then lvl 70 shit the only gear I had to keep up was rings and ranged weapon. Now that im 74 I have some gear that would help like dusk trousers, kriegs, ventures belt, admant mantle +1. But all that said im stil not gimped but not quiet as good as I could be. I love mnk alot but I quit at 42 simply because the gill cost im currently not able to make the gill I need fast enough to get what I want. So I quit mnk and went back to rng to get it be able top make more money faster so I could get my stuff for mnk.

I want the best gear I could have but at the same time im not gonna take large chunk of my game experience out doung nothing but farming. I simply choose a job thats easier to maintain. At some point I do realize how gimp I am and get what I need im just lucky I dont need any SHs or haubies as a rng.

People have the right to play like that want but they gotta be prepared for the critisizim that comes with being gimp. Also they have to know whats acceptible and what not when you hit highers lvls

Hard to say. It's been a while since I was level 60, but I still recall at the time that Hauby was far from standard equipment on every DD, not everyone was packing sniper rings, and so forth. I doubt I could have afforded what would be considered a "standard" DD set, frankly. Fortunately, I was a PLD, and got to wear my AF for 13 levels.

And as everyone is well aware, certain things get a lot easier at high levels.

Of course, some people tend to forget that.

I'm generally a LOT more forgiving with people who are on their first job. No Hauby, meh, not my favorite thing in the world, but that last 10% of capability might not be worth then 90% of cost that it represents to some people. A bit of advice on profitable BCNMs, an offer to go along for the run, hell a tip on what is in demand right now in crafting materials, a lot of these are things people just don't offer to actual newbs. Learning the hard way may build character, but it can also demoralize. And people frequently have very limited time to play, and would rather level than farm "excessively".

People that are leveling their second job to 75, on the other hand, have no excuses.

I would have to disagree. While there is a degree of gimps Ie using thf af body. I do not beilve that not having a SH or a harby would be. This stigma is brought up because this is how you make your money, by selling harbys. Harby and SH is like having a nobles it helps alot, but is not needed. I do on other hand beilve you right, your armor does so your detication. Though with all the gil buyer out there even that dont mean much anymore. I say praise though that have these nice armor, but dont shun someone just because they dont have a 8 mil item.

The highlighted is a bold assumption. While I may make Haubergeons, I have never made a dime off making them. The Ingots always cost about 200k-500k more than the haubs sell for, and there is still about 300k-500k of peripheral input materials that go into making them. Haubs generally are a net loss of about 500k-1m per. All the Haubs that I have made for other people(26) I have never charged for either. At Level 80 Smithing on up, you can hit Tier 1 on the synth. and unfortunately, there is absolutely no way to get Tier 2. Which means 9 out of 10 times I take that 500k-1m loss. That's 2,700,000 G - 9,000,000 G in losses, also note that your HQ rate is usually pretty close to your Critical Failure rate, so slap on an additional complete loss ~3,000,000 G - 5,000,000. Bringing the total losses range to 2,700,000 - 14,000,000 G.

So to refute your statement, no... I don't make money off of haubs. And I am mildly irritated you would make such an assumption that i would be plugging haubs in order to sell them. I am plugging haubs because thier Stat/Gil, Time/Gil, Exp/Gil ratios are WAY out of whack. you get Shitloads of stats in one pieces that lasts you 15 levels, and only costs 4 mil. You are wearign on your body Piece the equivalant of 2 Woodsman Rings, 2 Spiked Earrings, a Adroit Ring, and a Triumph Ring All on one body Piece. Any Dipshit that is Lv.60, and can't see the value in stopping EXP for a bit and earning 4 mil is a fucking idiot, and I don't want to waste my time with a player like that. I can make 100k/hour just solo leveling level lower level jobs for use as subs. There are still a number of NM's that aren't camped that are worth a chunk of change. There's craftign, and Fishing, Get to about level 60-70 in fishing in a week you could make a mil a day watching tv. Hell you could garden and make oodles(yes I said oodles) of gil dooing absolutely nothing.

If you can't spend some time to go earn money, then maybe this isn't the game for you. Where you say to your group "Hey it's my $12.95, I will play how I want." we will reply with "Hey it's our $64.75, and we don't want you wasting our time." [I don't take credit for that, somone else came up with that quote.] Again.... You can play how you want... But don't get all bitchy when no one wants to hang out or party with you. The spot you could have occupied would be better filled by the other 2-10 Melee seeking, or the 20 others not seeking that are out farming, but would pause to EXP upon request.

Phraust dear, calm down ;x while it was a stupid assumption ouchie >.> just don't want you to get in trouble..

I feel the same way.. farming is NOT hard.. if you don't like it, mine, garden, fish, anything. Don't wine about prices cause youre too lazy to farm.

My only problem is the ppl who say the past is the past and things are different now. I let a lot go for ppl who are on their first job, cause I how can one hold someone else to standards that they themselves didn't meet.

I got the game at NA release, and at 59 every NA war, Sam, Drk was not running around in a Haub, and every Mnk and Nin was not in a SH. Every melee didn't have 2 snipers at 40. Stop being hypocrites, or look in the mirror and say that you were gimp your first time through.

But I digress. I took time off from the game for grad school, and I said if I came back I was gonna play the job the best I could with my time. It felt really good when I crafted up the gil for my SH, my first high end gear. Felt like I really accomplished something, then once you raise it once it gets easier. But one piece of gear does not make you. I've tried camping the E, Pin forever, but never got the drop, and miss out on claim. So I still don't have one. But I have Anemit +1, SH, O. Kote, Lifebelt, Ryl. Kgt Breeches, Arhat's Hakama +1, Marine boots. Am I GIMP over one piece of gear, cause I gave up trying to camp it?

I play ninja damn well, and I can say Skill > gear especially in this job.

Mother of god. It is not skill. Stop trying to please yourself. All this game requires is basic understanding of your job, once you got that down, there is no way to get better except for GEAR. Get that through your ignorant heads. Its not like you learn combos in the game or new methods to do damage, its all gear that improves your performance. Not skill. So PLEASE, stop stroking your e-penis.

Under that reasoning, you can give 2 ppl the same amount ot info on a job, put them in the same gear, give them the same food, and they would both play the job exactly the same.

No coincedence that the jobs that require the most attention in the game past auto attack WS, are the ones that have the highest percentage of bad players.

gonna have to disagree with you there. there are way too many different situations and environments to say that a "basic understanding" is all you need to successfully play your job. you don't learn combos or new methods of doing damage, but you do learn different playstyles and tactics that are necessary to to survive situations. that's not even accounting for the fact that someone could simply be a bad player, in spite of their supposed knowledge of the job.

gear is important, but so is skill. from my experiences, the most skilled players are the ones who've worked the hardest to improve themselves. some things in this game, you can throw a monkey at and you'll be fine. most other things aren't like that, and even someone who is really good at their job, could probably find a way to do it better.

So if i get the best gear in the game and mash buttons in an : exp pt, hnm fights and missions, I will do alright? If I use wc whenever I want or spam nukes I guess thats good also. I dont have an e-penis, so no stroking is needed.

Not at all...

Knowing what needs to be done (out of four or five options) right now, to not just maximise your performance, but the groups performance, is skill.

Understanding the current dynamics of a fight and making the right choices under pressure is what differentiates good players from poor players. Good gear helps, and gives you (and your group) more margin for error, but it's certainly not the only factor.

Good players tend to have good gear though because the understand the advantages of it and are willing to work towards getting it. Poor players often have poor gear because they don't understand the advantages it gives them...

Who said anything about mash buttons? I said all you need is the basics and you're fine, what else is there to know about melees other than DRK stun, WS, "hate" control (not that u should ever worry about it, sucky tank), when to cast utsu, and macros? Those are all things you do with 1 button, im sorry. I dont give a shit what you say, this has got to be one of the easiest games to play. All you need is time, thats all. Deny it all you want, you punks that play 9 hours each day know it.

So JDA being capable of nearly killing Jormungand with less than 18 people while a group of 36 from any other linkshell can barely faze him is purely gear?

Kaizen beating Tiamat with ~25, while the same number could potentially wipe to Kirin or Hakutaku - all gear, right?

18 people can win Divine Might - but what about the hundreds who have attempted it and failed? They must've been playing with lots of people with utter crap gear then, I suppose.

Skilled players don't need great gear. Poor players do. Like tag said...gear is a margin of error, not a decider. It is a self-insult to admit that you have any gear to thank for any single success of yours in this game.
