when exp partying stops being fun. :(

and to think this post started out with ppl feeling like leveling has become a chore, then i read vang and dowzer's post and have no problem understanding why. maybe some ppl like enjoying talking to the other ppl in the party and not seeing them as a steeping stone to the next level. hopefully i will remeber to avoid you guys at the higher levels.

o yeah i'd take a sam over drk anyday of the week :p

Now don't get me wrong i like to joke here and there, but joking or not, I will remind everyone to chill on the convo and get in gear or to pick it up if we are slacking. That's just how I am, I know what works, what set ups work, and can promise 95% of the parties I am in 5-6k an hour granted everyone just pay attention and do their job. If not, fuck ya, goodbye, you're probably a melee anyhow, easily replaced.

Indeed, well put. God, I'd love to be in one of your parties... but thats proabably not going to happen since I'm a tank too. :cry:

This is a great example of how a serious XP party should be done, efficient and right to the point.

But to go back to my point earlier... it's this kind of pressure to perform that makes people shy away from XP'ing at these levels... am I wrong? Vang makes a great point of making sure everyone in the party is very clear of what he expects out of a party, at the very beginning. Hopefully even before they get to camp. That way, anybody who feels uncomfortable with his ideals can disband, and not have to worry about Vang kicking them in the middle of Terrigan or where ever... or worse, Vang having to flame them... /shudder.

I say bravo Vang. You know what you want, and you make it clear to everyone before it wastes anyones time. :wink: Generally, people will respect you more if you know what you want out of an XP session, and you will enjoy it much more if you don't push yourself too hard (Or not hard enough!) :D

I look at it this way; leveling is work, it is what I need to do so I can have fun. You will do a lot of work in this game to get to 75. Hopefully you can make friends along the way and make the work part of the game fun also.

If you are going to level, you should be going to level period. Why would you get into an exp party to play Instant Messenger? There are a ton of things you can do in this game to hang out and chat with your friends. For example you could farm as a team get together like 3 friends and go kill some higher level stuff (with good drops) that none of you could kill solo. Go camp an NM for a friend, I am sure if you make it to level 60 you have at least one friend that needs a N/M drop of some kind. Party up with friends and do some running around type quests or some missions. I think all too often people confuse their POL icon for their Instant Messenger icon on their desktop.

I agree with Vang here, he made some very good points. To add to that, if you are spending more time chatting in a linkshell than paying attention to battles when you are leveling you need to find yourself a replacement and go chat with friends. Also I have to wonder if you are having such a hard time bringing yourself to level, why are you still playing the game? Are you playing the game to hang out with your friends and chat online? If so you don't need to level for that, you don't even need the game for that; there are tons of I.M. services out there.
 
well as a 44 drk, i try to keep my GS leveled as well, so i can be effective later on.

Back on the topic, i have had a goal to get to 50 for some time now...but i have pushed it back to 45, then i am gonna go farm for like a week.

When i first got the game, i spent so much time doing things that did not involve getting XP....i explored a lot...i love exploring with people! Like when Pannda, Kenohkii, and i first went to Lufaise Meadow...that was so awesome!

But its hard getting parties...and often hard to construct them.... For some reason i get these people that dont have the patience for a good party to be formed..so when they see that we only have 3 members so far...they run away. Also....i really hate partying in Crawlers nest....i prefer to go to Eastern Altep...but thats not the case...since apparently i am the only freaking person in my level who get the freaking crystal!

not to mention i got the crystal at like lvl 32 or something.....

I also try to bring humor to the party, saying something funny, or trying to make jokes.....i like people to remember me so they say "Hey Koutetsu is lfg...wasnt he that funny Dark Knight who was dealing some decent damge...Didn't he use those wacky absorb spells to make the enemy easier? Wasn't he the one who used that food to up his accuracy, and had decent equipment?" but that never happens....i remember the people who do good in parties i have been in.

I remember the red mages who actually refresh me with me having to ask them...thats a big plus in my book...do you know how many Red mages tell me that i dont need to be refreshed? That i can just use aspir? HELLO WE ARE FIGHTING CRAWLERS! they dont have MP.....but beetles do ^^

Anyways...sometimes XP partying pisses me off...sometimes it doesn't.

Oh and as a drk, you know you just got into a bad party when the leader says " Hey, can you tank?"

well the drk job seems to just be getting better after 60. unlike rdm i dont do the same old refresh, debuff stuff. I got me new Guillotine which I love. I am looking forward to spinning slash even more. I think xping got better after 60 ^^

Sortof why I quit WHM. Too many of the parties suck (haven't gotten a good one since the one with Vet, and since then I'm actually -4900xp........)
Your xp cap is raised from 200 per fight, but really, the chance of your party killing a 200xp+ mob quick enough to effectively chain isn't too great, so all you're getting are insane jumps in exp req, less exp per mob, and more exp lost per death. AND easier to die. Yay.
Might start WHM again to get to 67 for hexa strike, but I really just dunno. I've literally only had that one good party past 60..and it's simply way too tedius.

Gotten it to 59 (almost) when I could have taken another job to 75.

At least for RDM, every few levels was a new spell or nuke. And thinking about what things you can do once your 75 helps you stick with it.

You know BST choose to solo...they could just as well charm a monster and call it off before the mob's killed and get party exp... ¬¬a

Oh, right, society sucks and not enough people know info about BST and would run away screaming about how they'd kill exp or something. /sigh

No reason to wonder why. YOU are the reason it becomes a chore. Its already been hinted at, but there is not longer that level or two a night mentality with the huge TNL numbers. With a 40000 Tnl, you can xp all damn night and not feel like you really got anywhere. So yes, it's attitudes like yours that make it a chore. When you log on, find a party, take forever to get together, get to camp, chit-chat, afk, disband, play with dipshits who STILL dont know their job and total about 2.5k of that 40000 in 4 hours of play time, hell yeah it's a chore!

As far as the Sam comment, did you even READ his post? He is NOT dissing the job, merely stating that he can't SC with one. Some people do actually consider the skillchain when making the party.

I just gotta say this, I've had the funnest parties post 60. All it takes is good experience and fun people. I've been in parties so good that everyone including the BRD was bursting for the fun of it. WHM bursting Stone II, THF bursting <insert JP word here>, BRD bursting Elegy, FUCKING FUN! And still getting AT LEAST 6k an hour.
 
A few things...

Yes, I would actually prefer a party that pulls about 3k/hr but is actually fun to be in than one that pulls 5k/hr but is all strictly business and completely boring. And yes, I do have a high-level job (check my sig), so I actually know what the heck I'm talking about.

Yes, it is possible to get decent exp while still chatting (the key word is decent - you probably won't get 8k/hr or something like that without everyone focusing on the game and nothing else). Here's the key - keep the chatting for between fights, when the puller is finding a mob, or only say short things during a fight. No reason to completely put a lid on the chatting, but don't let it bog down the party's exp.

As for SAM's SCs... not sure if it's possible (I don't know how long Meditate takes to fill up TP), but it might be possible to have a SAM do Tachi: Jinpu and Meditate, other melee do any WS that closes Gravitation, then have the SAM do Tachi: Gekko to do a Darkness SC. Or, if you have 3 melee (or a SMN as the party's main healer), have the SAM and another melee do Fusion, then finish it off with a Spinning Slash for Light.

Finally, while Distortion might not be the "ultimate" SC, it can be pretty strong. I've seen the SC (including MBs) do around 3k damage - 200 or so from Howling Fist, 300 from Sickle Moon, 100 or so from Distortion, RDM does 300 with Blizzard 2, Shiva does 600 with Blizzard 4, BLM does 1.3k with Flood.

I do have fun in EXP parties. I love to gain experience points...but only with the right people and party setup.

I have fun when I'm earning 4~6k exp per hour.

Catch my drift yet?
You obviously have ALL the time in the world to EXP....so you don't mind the slower grinds.......
But listen here budd-O.....

I have a schedule, I can't play FFXI every waking moment..

Some of us like to use our time efficiently.

i have more respect for BSTs than any job.....because they are so hardcore...i got bst to 13....it takes so much strategy and work.
