Ok so this weekend sparked a question of interest, when do you stop being nice to people in FFXI and start playing for yourself.

Situation: We were in Gustav Tunnel leveling our 57-59 party on crabs and gobs when Wyvernpoacher Drachlox pops. Obviously me being the NM killer I am want to take it, but I know we can't. Our Ranger (lvl57) wants to take it too so he can get his o-bow. Most people know that o-bow is not an easy item to just mess around and get, so we're like "ok you can go change to your war and kill it." Ranger gets a D2 and switches to hiw 75 War/nin and brings a few friends. Kills NM and get the drop. {Congratuations} right? It took him about an hour to get some friends to come, to get back to the area, and to kill it.

At what point in time do you just say screw this and kick him? We were pulling in close to 6k an hour using someone's exp add-in so if you think about it, at that level that's almost half a level we lost out on so he could get his o-bow.

I tanked this thing as 54 NIN, your party should of been able to own it easy.

stop exp, or have it drastically slowed because of the constant avoiding of poacher? you choose, it ends up with the same loss almost.

Agreed.

Normally the needs of the few outweigh the one guy, but in the case of something like an O-bow for a ranger, I'd say it was worth it. In the end it's really up to you. As a BLM would you have felt the same way if for example Moldevite NM popped while you were xping at Gustav entrance at lvl 42?

oh it had been up for 30 min by the time we finally gave in and let him co change to kill it, we were doing just fine with it sitting there.

E. Bow 4tw...

But isnt the real question why a rng would leave a good exp party...thats like a drg disbanding >.>

why didn't you guys just kill it?

Probably because, like most people I've been in EXP parties with, they were afraid that they would wipe. I've seen people avoid NMs that they could solo while in parties just because of the "is impossible to gauge". Yeah alot of people are pussies when it comes to NMs and EXP parties.

lol tried guvoire (sp) at 55 pld lol lasted a bit of time next time i went i was in -64% damage gear and owned that fucker 2/3 on skulls now :P

i think they shouldnt have done that, they should have had friends just come in, but you coulda taken it easy. me and a pt killed it @about 53-55, only 2hour used was mine(mightstrikes), and only me and the rng died. didnt drop, but you guys should have either just taken it or waited for a friend or 2 to show up

there is no combination of gear in this game that equals -67% damage, the most you can get is:

head: arhats hakama+1 -4%
body: arhats gi +1 -7%
hands: arhats tekko +1 -3%
legs: arhats sitibaki+1 -5%
ring: defendingring -10% jelly ring -5%
weapon earth staff -20%

total: -54%

oh, and forgot to mention you're obviously a war, so you can't wear any of the arhats, I know you have no defending ring, and probalbly not a jelly ring making you only -20%

Not all Arhat's gives Damage Reduction.

Main: Earth/Terra Staff, 20%
Head: Arhat's Jinpachi+1, 6%
Body: Arhat's Gi+1, 9%
Hands: Darksteel Mtn. +1, 2%
Legs: Darksteel Sub. +1, 3%
Feet: Darksteel Leg. +1, 2%
Rings: Defending, 10%. Jelly, 5%

47%-57%.

Now, all that stuff is usable by MNK as well, but, an addition

Black Belt, 5%. 52-62% :P

Hyphenated secondary Values are with Defending Ring. Primary Values are without, since realistically, you won't have one.

Forgot Hands, bah

how did guivre even come into the discussion? lol

And no, you don't have -64% dmg, especially as a pld, let alone a 55 pld.

And lol tymon, I wish arhats gear gave that much ><

So blazn, whatever your smoking, hit me up with some man.

I tried Guivre as a lvl 55 PLD, and did'nt last long. The next time I went, i was wearing -64% damage gear and owned that fucker. I am 2/3 on skulls now.

For something like Obow, if your party didn't think they could handle it, you definitely stop what you're doin' for the member in your party. Especially since it did drop. Kudo's to you for agreeing to let him try for it. I realize you're second guessing yourself now, but don't. 6k per hour xp is definitely worth losing for a fellow FFXI player to get something like that.

As someone else pointed out, what if you had been in Labrynth of Onzozo? Wouldn't you want the xp party to help you?

QFT'd

a 57-59 party that is getting 6k an hour there can take that NM and chain it. I beat that with an XP party at 54. I've seen a PLD tank it at 55.

There wasnt a need for him to go to jeuno and change jobs, even one 75 pretty much of any job and a party can beat this NM.

The point is Meeze, the xp party didn't want to try it. Therefore they agreed to the next best thing which was letting him change jobs and get the manpower to take the gobbie.

It is a totally moot point whether or not they 'could' take the gobbie with the xp party. That is not what the OP was addressing. It was whether or not they should've booted the guy while he took an hour off the party.
