okay, I actually did a search on threads of this topic...came up with zilch, if I'm wrong pardon for the repeat in this small rant.

So....where are my damn tanks nowadays? Huh?

I'm pretty damn sick of /sea all xx-yy inv, finding a perfect party setup in basically any level range.

/sea all 1-75 pld inv "2 people found in all known areas"

...hmmm okay

/sea all 1-75 nin inv "6 people found in all known areas"
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
75 NIN/WAR
63 NIN/WAR

Apparently it has come to my attention that tanks are the new princess jobs before they hit 75. So um, when will SE decide to get the fucking heads out of their asses and decide to assess this ridiculous situation players are having? Oh wait you're laughing? Yeah I am too. Laughing and SE's so-called "creative intellect" that they tried so hard to implement within a new tank job for players. BUT HEY! LET'S ADD DANCER! IT CAN UM...DANCE AND LOOK CUTE LAWL! Make it tank? HAH! In the early levels IF YOU'RE LUCKY enough to find a player with half a brain anymore.

It would be one thing if I was seeking on say thief, or perhaps blue mage. But for fuck's sake i've been seeking on bards for 2 nights straight without a single invite. BARD! I mean, hell I thought i'd try a job that had invites flying out of the ass if you had your flag left on all night. No. I can't merit party in the early 60's, so for now I have to feverishly search for a tank....on bard....yeah....

It makes me want to ingest my own hair..

SE I fucking hate you. Why don't you try to hire some employees with actual brains within their skulls mmkay?

/end rant

that's kinda weird...I always got stuck finding a bard/rdm/cor

think i read somewhere that they are going to make mobs or an area with mobs that don't need to be tanked.. don't quote me on that tho, not sure how they would go about doing that..

Your damn tank is right here! Level 60PLD BUT DAMMIT, STILL A TANK.

SE may not realize it, but they've had a really good potential tank job waiting in the wings for a long time now. Every few updates, the folks who love this job get another tool that brings them a step closer to being a tank.

What job, you ask? Bst!!

. . .

. . .

. . .

Ok, now that you've had a chance to recover from your hysterical fits of laughter, hear me out. A Bst/war would tank in a manner similar to how Ninjas tank, holding hate via Provoke, while dealing a fair amount of damage; however, Bsts wouldn't greatly miss the shadows Utsu provides, because after one Provoke >> Snarl >> Rampage >> Snarl, they won't be tanking - their pets will.

What's the major drawbacks to this idea? Well, as I see em, it's:

1) Snarl only works on jug pets.
Opening the use of this ability to natural pets might be broken. I really don't have an opinion either way.

2) Bsts can only use Reward and Stay to cure/regen their pets.
Let other people cure/buff our pets, and we're gravy!

Now obviously, how well a Bst holds hate is going to vary a great deal depending on each Bst's skill and gear setup, but I've thought about this a lot and I really think it could work.

[Cringes in anticipation of the guffaws of laughter]

You would need a good tanking jug pet though that would be able to hold off other members of the group pre-70. It's good in theory though.

Meh, I'm a lvl 75 PLD and now everyone hates you because your not good enough... ;_;

Not worth to even try to tank as a paladin at 75 imo.

Smn is the new tank IMO. We have Avatars and Bloodpacts. Better then those stupid tanks with their ninja tricks or their Pld tricks. Smn is the wave of the future.(Unless you're a gimp Smn like Zaltana who can't tank a lvl 1 rabbit)

Melee SMN Myrrh...

PC+1

Hoever I do agree that I would get raped trying to blood tank in merits. I still don't
get invites /NIN though.

Myrrh trying to put the focus on me so no one will catch you bangin your new Lamia GF makes you seem even more sad. It may be healthy that you've moved on from dolphins to snakes. ;)

~on topic~

i've had fantasies of what would happen if SE removed the current jobs used as tanks. honestly i dont think much would change of the plethora of 75 we currently have. we cant really blame people for not lvling tanking jobs. it requires that you thinbk about what you have to do. and we've all seen that only about 5% of the idiots in the rising lvls can do that.

Well, you've got a few options for those times when a tank doesn't deign to magically fall from the sky. None of these, of course, address the underlying problem of the fact that there just aren't enough people levelling a tank job, but they can still make life a little easier on you:

- Cannon mentality. Have your melees sub ninja, be competent with shadows, and bounce hate (note that this requires that at least the top two melees are fairly even on their hate, and you don't have one person who totally outclasses the others). This does, in fact, work *looooooong* before merit levels. You could even throw in BRD constant pulling into the mix.

- Strictly speaking, you *can* BRD pull for merit parties in the low 60s. However, sleeping the mobs you pull is pretty much a non-option (level difference will murder your resist rate on debuffs), and the melees will have to deal with the mobs not having Elegy either for the same reason. Your buffs will be slightly (but only slightly) weaker too. And you'll have to be more careful about staying alive: if subbing a mage job, you'll get hit harder; if subbing NIN, you'll only have Ichi. But it's quite doable.

- You can be the second BRD for a merit party. Sub WHM, play backup healer, and keep up, say, Madrigal, Minuet 3, and the Ballads. The puller BRD pulls, sleeps, and keeps up March and Minuet 4.

- Variety of duoing options. Try pairing up with a BST, BLM, or BLU.

- There's always good old campaign, slow though it may be. In the low 60s you can hold your own and not die every 5 seconds.

I was in a lv 60-62 party once that had no tank, they had all melees with sub ninja and me a lone Rdm, there wasnt a voke amongst them all and whenever I cured too much I got hate, if I didnt cure too much they died.

Have ninja shields at that lv isnt as great as it seems.

I disagree with this. If the melee and the mages are half competent at what they do Cannon mentality at 50+ works very well. Sub NIN keep your shadows counted and know how to bounce hate... AND have a mage that knows what regen is, BAM you are golden.
