VI is my personal favorite, I think it was truely a memorable cast each with some great storylines. That game kept me up for hours once I got to the world of chaos and had to get my team all over again.
 
I liked both 7 and 8 best...I voted 8 though cuz I figure it will get the lesser of the 2
 
Well, being fairly new to video games X is my favorite. I tried playing VII but couldnt get through it :/ i was spoiled with graphics, having X as my first video game ever lol..

Yeah I have a friend that says that exact same thing...I hate her so much for it, no offense, just telling you for your own benefit, but that's kinda of a bullshit reason not to play a game. I started on IX when it came out and I've gone back and played VII and VIII. And not only did I play em, VII was my personal favorite. Yeah the graphics sucked, but graphics are only a very small percentage of what makes a game good. When it comes to RPG's like FF, storyline and the battle system are the two key factors, and they were both outstanding in VII (I think X's battle system was a little better than VII's, but VII had the best storyline ever, not to mention the fact that it completely revolutionized the way we play RPG's). Graphics plays a bigger part in something like a shooter or racing game, but still, they're not THAT huge. You both use the argument that you're "spoiled", and like I tell my friend, get the fuck over it! =P

P.S. My prediction is that VII will win. Not just cause it's my favorite, but from just talking to people, it seems to be the common favorite.

Anyways, I voted FFX, not solely because of the graphics, I just really enjoyed the game and there was alot of stuff to do, especially the monster arena. FFVII definately is next.
 
II shouldn't be on the poll. No one likes it, and thats why it's the only early one that hasn't had it's key feature mimicked entirely.
 
I have to say I jumped on the VII band wagon. It had the best story, music, battle system(love materia), and villian. Plus it was my first final fantasy I got serious with. II was my first I think, but I was too young to understand the concept of RPGs.
 
FFVI had better music I'd agree :P <3 world map music in FFVI than in FFVII... but hmm.. stories.. that's a toughy.. I think FFVII was far more developped story-wise but FFVI was good too.. bah.. so hard.. I'll vote after I play and beat FFXII D:
 
FFVI, first FF game I ever played that caught my attention. Characters, plot and music all made it perfect to me. Aside from that, FFT isn't on this list and that's the only FF that can even tie for my #1 spot.
 
FF4 is my favorite. It was the first SNES RPG I'd ever played, and I loved the characters, storyline and music. I've been playing through the GBA version, and I'm currently exploring the newly-added Cave of Trials before I go up against final boss and win it.

FF7 gets most fanboys' hearts fluttering for the same reason FF4 is my favorite: it was their first, and you never forget your first. FF7 is never going to be my favorite (I liked FF8 a lot more), but arguing with someone's nostalgia is a lost cause.
 
Heh, my first was the original on NES. Can't say that was my favorite. You are right though, in that most people say VII is their favorite because it popped their FFCherry. People say Sephiroth is so bad ass, but he didn't destroy the world. Kefkha has been the only one to really succeed.
 
8, first Final fantasy I played, then years later the first I beat. Hard t otop the feeling of acomplishment when you finish any Final Fantasy. Well 10 was easy as hell...

About the visual thing, it has a lot to do with it. It took me several tries with 7 to get it to stick with me so I could get past the 1st disc. I still haven't ever beaten it.

I'd like to add to this thread by asking what FF's people have finished (main storyline, not all sidequests)

Played: I,II,IV,V,VI,VII,VII: Dirge of Cerberus,VIII,IX,X,X-2,XI,Legends,Mystic Quest, Tactics

Finished: All except XI lol

FF6 FTW. Thats the one that popped my FF cherry and I still have it for SNES and are currently leveling in the World of Chaos in "Jurasic Park". I freaking love that game. 7 was good, Didnt care for 8, to technilogically advanced to be FF, 9 was my clsoe second as a fav (Have had two cats named Vivi and Freya) and 10 was fun too. 10-2 sucked and 11 is fun, but more like work at times lol.

Now because of 11 i dont have time to play anything else lol. I dont even know anything about 12 let alone when it is released lol.

Anyways, my fav is FFVI as well, and played all, beaten all(aside from XI)
I know I'll spend 300+hrs on FFXII when it releases too

I wouldl go with Final Fantasy Legend II for gameboy^^

Eating monster's meat can change you into different monsters. Robots that pull stat benefits from their equipped items. Their are drawbacks, but this game rocked.
