Paladin or Ninja. Simple question at first. But once you hit the mechanics....
I personally prefer PLD over NIN in every situation.

Vs. Mandragoras- PLD. Ninja's shadows fall to fast because of Mandy double attack.

Vs. Goblins- PLD. Goblin -ga spells wipe shadows anyways.

Vs. Pugils- NIN. At least you have enough time to cast utsusemi. If you good, and have a good backup, no damage.

Paladin's USUALLY dont require a backup voker if they are good. Ninja's are nothing without their shadows.

Ninja's are easier to heal depending on your Party setup.

But in every situation, I would usually prefer Paladin.

I believe this poll has been up at least a few times already, but i'll answer again.

I prefer a PLD to a NIN, mainly because all my experiences with NIN haven't been anything impressive, I can never see a NIN hold hate against a DRK or BLM very well and I really like to see those jobs in my party, using their full potential.

I also like a PLD just because we're all about protecting our party members, we have this whole "knight" thing going on ;)
 
Have to love playing position games with the PLD with Ballad/Evoker's. Not. NIN all the way
 
On RDM, I prefer PLD.
On BRD, I prefer NIN.

It's as simple as that. You can pick and choose your prey almost anywhere except jungles and dunes. (which is why NIN hate mandies, and PLD hate pugs).

Other popular exp spots work with both for the most part.

(I like NIN for their damage potential too, which tends to me magnitudes above PLD, which makes NIN awesome for cannons :D)
 
As a WHM.. I personally prefer PLD to a NIN for a few good reasons.
First, I know the PLD can hold hate, and also regain hate from (or Cover) me if I end up having to use Benediction or upon getting enemy attention due to having to quickly cure the party in emergency situations.
Second, I know very well that a PLD can take more hits before going down. NIN? Once those shadows go, the NIN won't last very long afterwards.
Third... NIN parties tend to become repetitious and boring at times, though I'll admit they have just slightly faster exp chaining in parties after 37 or so. I usually end up just Haste'ing the NIN... <.<
Overall, the most I've seen NINs good for is those slow, hard hitters.. but even then, I still prefer the PLD due to them being able to retain hate, rather than having to see that Gigas hurling a rock at me.
 
PLD for 2 reasons

1. I am one...
2. I'm leveling whm and no happy medium seems to exist...all the NINs i pt with either suck and drain my MP by chain 3 or are really good and i do nothing but cast haste whenever the *something's fixin to wear off* tingle occurs. PLDs (good or bad) give me something to do the whole PT and usually make my job much more fun to play
 
paladin. simple as that. it give me that little ounce of excitement when i refresh a paladin i guess.
 
Paladin. ^^ Like many said above, gives the whm something to do rather than haste a few times during a fight..and repeat..for hours on end (or until the pt disbands. >.> )
 
Doesn't matter what it is, I love a PLD tank. Sure you get some fast EXP with a "good NIN tank" but how often do you actually see those? Plus you have to build your party around a NIN tank. If you know a good DRK, you can't invite them to a NIN tanked party because then you have to tell them to hold back. Or accept the fact that no NIN, no matter how great they are, is going to hold hate off of a good DRK.

lol without Warrior's Provoke ability, PLDs and NINs (mostly these) would have a hard time trying to tank things. /praises Elemmire XD
 
not just saying this bc i am a ninja, but id prefer a ninja in my party for most cases, ive never been too empressed with the pld ive partyed with from 20-67 as samurai, they just seem to be mana sponges, i havent pted with one around 70+ but all the arguements ive seen for pld were around early to mid lvl pting anyways.
sorry if it looks like blazn typed this, its 3:30 am and im tired
 
Nin all the way. Much more versitle, and much more convienent <i cant think of the word i was thinking of so convienant will have to do till i remember.>
 
For me it depends on what im subbing. If im /war i like Pld because i wont get hate and more then likely wont have to first voke. If im /thf then i like nin tanks. The only reason i dont like pld as /thf is that most of the time they either have hate so i cant sata them or they first voke and go "opps habit" which pisses me off because other than SATA WS /thf is worthless and so if i cant sata the tank i fell like im not doing my job and then i just get pissed off.
 
on WHM, I prefer PLD. It is fucking boring to be main healer with a good WHM tank.

on RDM and BLM it doesn't matter, but to be honest, in merit parties I usually prefer NIN tnak on those two, as the exp is usually better.

on BLU, I prefer a PLD tank as NIN tanks can't hold hate worth shit <.<;

so its 2 for NIN, 2 for PLD. Meaning it depends on the situation ;P
