White Mage apathy.....

I never said whms should journy across Vanny to raise someone but if they're in the same zone and you're not doing anything why the hell not?
Yes, it would be nice to help then, but how often as a whm are you sitting in a zone where mid to high lvls die and not doing something yourself in the meantime. Sure, if people died in Jeuno (or Xarcarbd, my favorite hangout) while I was sitting around I would raise them, but no one dies in the places I hang out while not doing anything. I'm either exping, doing a quest with a group of people, or passing through the zone with people waiting on me.

That about sums up what I was going to say.

I don't see anywhere in this thread where that statement was held true. I've watched so many selfish people just step over other's bodies while doing dumb shit like skilling up and it just pisses me off.

Besides if Duckie has done exactly that for others (ie. run across the world to score a high level a raise 3 and save them a couple thousand XP) why the hell shouldn't someone do the same for her? Especially when all you're doing is sitting your ass in lower jeuno complaining about the people shouting

I'm a WHM

I'm one of the white mages that got asked to raise Longdukdong. I like to think I'm a good friend of Paddington's and would have done the Raise if it weren't for several factors.

1.) It was 2 AM - I shoulda have been in bed @ 12 AM - I had to get up @ 6:00 AM that morning.
2.) I was busy kicking my ass staying awake trying to get Hexa Strike (which I did get by the way)
3.) I was in Bibiki Bay - Duckie was in Boyahda Tree.

I'm srry Paddington - Had the circumstances not been so tight on myself (meaning I needed to get to sleep asap, I would have raised - as I told you in /t)

In general, I'm really tired of WHM's being seen as bitches to the other jobs. If you need exp outside of your static - get it. If you need a tele - don't bitch when no whm's feel like tele-whores. When I'm busy- I'm busy. If you need a Raise - feel free to ask, but don't expect an immediate yes. Hopefully the NUMEROUS people that I have given R3's to read this and can back me up when I say that I also Raise II and Raise III people WITHOUT reward.

If it is convenient - meaning in the same zone or nearby... I wouldn't hesitate unless I'm exp'ing... then you need to be the next PT over.

Srry I couldn't help you Paddington ; ; You are my friend, but no reward coulda kept me from my beauty sleep last night... only my selfish goal of getting Hexa Strike.

True, no one's said that whm's are only raise and teleport whores and need to devote all their time to that. I also agree that if you're there anyways you can help with a raise or something. I've gone across the world to raise people, and I know others who have done the same.

What I was responding too was the OP's accusation that the whm's were too lazy/apathetic to stop doing nothing to help someone out. There are way too many people with this mindset, that since whm is solely a support role in a paty that we're here to do everyone's bidding. We help when we can(some can more than others), but we didn't join the game to help everyone else at the expense of our own enjoyment.

I was a WHM asked to raise Dukie too, and I felt really bad, but it was way past my bedtime and I had to wait for windy ship to log in Jeuno. I was only on maybe 15 min. and didn't even want to be on that long. But it's a long haul to the tree, if I'd been in Zi'Tah, that would have been no problem. I see only being 1 zone away as not too bad to do a raise for a fellow WHM (job bias, get over it), but last night was too far for me considering how loudly my bed was calling me.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no problem helping people, but saying that someone should change jobs because they don't feel responsible for catering raises around your agenda of death because they may or may not be busy at the time is a load of crap.

I'll happily raise people and otherwise help out when I can, and in fact I sacrifice a lot of my own time to do so quite often. But I do it because I enjoy it. If you or anyone expecting to be raised tells me it's my responsibility as a white mage then no, that's just being rude. Homepoint for all I care.

I didn't mention the names of any of the people I asked because I didn't want to single anyone out but since you've brought it up.

Over the past year I've done plenty of things for you when I was doing other things and I've never complained or asked for anything in return. I also told Arctyraek he was perfectly welcome to join our skill up party but apparently coming "ALL" the way to Boyahda Tree is just too much work for some people....as for the time that's totally immaterial considering how late most people stay online. I guess 3 skill points are that much more important than helping out a friend. Well don't worry...I won't ask again Arctyrael....I know how valuable your time is now.

Thank you.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I really thought as a friend you would understand. And just because other's stay up way late - doesn't mean that I can stay up until 4 AM when I have to wake up at 6AM.

Hope somehow you can get past your anger at me for something that I wasn't willing to do.

And yes, while we were both in skill-up pts, I didn't feel like taking additional time to get 3 skill up levels by carting off to Boyahda. I was getting fairly decent skills and by going to Boyahda - it woulda taken an additional 30-45 minutes to get those skills.

As I said - feel free to ask, just because I wasn't willing to raise last night, doesn't mean that I'm not available to help next time. Without trying to sound immature - it seems awfully crappy to ask someone to completely drop what they are doing and then get mad at them when they refuse.

One last final thing - I didn't think - as friends of course- that favors were counted. My bad. I duly remember asking for help getting a Raise III in Cloister of Storms when you stopped replying to me. (I ate an R1 - no biggy)

How is saying "If You don't like helping people, don't be a whm" equate to Drop Everything you're doing at any given time and treck across vanny to do the whim of others? My statement means pretty much if you see a body or someone that could really use a cure and you can't be bothered to take 5-30 seconds of your time to help them you probaby shouldn't be playing a support role. You're a healer, heal! It's like being a warrior but you don't like hitting shit.

It's just really gotten to me lately because it's becoming almost common to be selfish and do nothing for others. I've seen so many whms/rdms/smns/blms just run by low level bodies without even flinching. Fact being at this point from what I've seen Gil Sellers are more kind/helpful than a large chunk of the legitmate players. I've seen more gil sellers help out other parties with cures/links/raises while partying with my whm this round through than my fellow quetzy players.

And don't think I don't get the /tells and requests and that's why I'm all pissy about the subject and am not jaded about being a 'raise bitch' because I've played nothing but support/healing roles for the last 2 years. Me and Palum race towards bodies and calls for help and get mad when the other one gets there first because frankly so far there's nothing I enjoy more than helping peeps who need it and it's my main reason for getting to higher levels so I can do it more often.

I dont think it is a WHM's job to tele-whore and raise...in fact thats the main reason i dont.

If you want me to raise you and your not my friend then you will have to be close, i must not be busy, i must be in a good mood and you must ask NICELY.

If you are going to say "hey your a WHM get the hell over here and raise me!" then you can go to hell and HP.

I am not your slave so do not treat me like one.

On a side note Baj is nice and came from jeuno to boyodha tree to R3 me when a train killed me ^^.

if ur going to send a ramdon whm a tell for a tele or a raise then u most certanly have to ask nice and take the above into consideration. don't get all pissed off because a whm turned u down for a 10k tele in windy/bastok/sandy. to some whm's time is more precious than gil, especially a high lv whm who probly has lots of gil and 10k is nothing to him. calling the whm that turned u down for a 10k tele isn't going to help either, they'll probly turn down everybody after that regardless how much they offer them.

Heh, the best ones are the ones that /tell me when I'm in a party in jeuno looking for/waiting on members and they want the teleport to be free. I told someone that I was busy once, and they actually replied with "Yeah, you're SO busy just standing there."

And to Sabia, you're right about the people who are right there and don't do anything to help. It's not out of their way, it's not that hard, and it's definitely courteous. Those are the people that suck, although I will admit that I have ignored other people's problems when I was in a hurry. If I'm heading to help out on an nm that's up, or I'm on a 3k chocobo from mea; I'm less inclined to stop and maybe waste some money to help out.

I've walked by dead people and not raised them before.

In the dunes.
I was chocoing by a party on my way to Selbina and ran into a friend of mine who was out there farming lizard skins so I jumped off and said hi for awhile. The party next to where I was standing took a pretty bad hit and lost three of its members.

Seeing that I was a white mage, they asked me for a raise. They were level 10-11. I said, why don't you just homepoint, you'll get it back in one fight. I bantered with them for a bit about that until they had let me know that they didnt set their home point in the dunes (which they had previously lied about several times during the conversation about why they wouldn't just HP).

One thing that I absolutely hate is when people don't set their HP in the dunes when they don't have a PL and they are at the 10-16 mark (or somewhere close to that, because of the fact that there is a MUCH higher chance that you're gonna die) and just expect the people in their party to find them a raise when they die. Its irresponsible and it makes a lot of unnesecery downtime for your party.

So I got my taru ass up on a soapbox and preached about why you should have set your HP and how much of your parties time you are wasting by not doing that and yadda yadda.

Eventually I did raise him though, I'm not that evil.

Oh, and Paddington, if thats the way you feel about white mages, and you're that bitter towards those people after they gave you a reason and you still think you're right, go level white mage and see how you feel after the same thing happens to you. Its all a matter of how you look at the situation and the fact that you are so quick to judge others and their friendships over one raise is really immature.

I never set my HP in the dunes because its an inconvenience :p But then again, I don't plan to die. Most dunes parties have PLs these days anyway

Wow.... just wow. This is why I stopped whm @ 37. Tele this and raise that. I know thats not the OP reason for posting, but just throwing that out. The time people spend trying to get a R3, they could have gotten a R1 and gotten whatever was lost. If in a zone or near zone AND not busy, I'll give a R1 off my little bard, but I HATE when people get mad when they can't get R3 in pt or skillup or anywhere. A R1, yeah it's understandable, but R3? Come on... Recently I think people have been getting more demanding of whm, and I won't even get started on teles lol.

Just my 2 gil. No offense to be directed towards anyone. :D

Right, and its totally convenient for your party to stand around for a half hour trying to find your stupid ass a raise while you're stealing xp time from them. I understand completely.

Actually, I stopped setting my hp in the dunes a long time ago. If I died, I home pointed(to jeuno) and asked if they'd be willing to wait for me to get back or if they wanted a replacement.

I don't expect my party to sit around and wait for me to find a teleport, walk back to camp and then get ready to fight again, so I'm willing to potentially lose a great dunes party for the convenience of not having to walk back to town when I'm done with the party.

With sadness and disappointment, I must agree that is true.

I can't say I know how the whm's feel because mine is lvl 20. I can't even R1 yet, but I can understand where the frustration comes. I get asked for help pretty damn often and I am sometimes expected to drop whatever I may have set out to accomplish for the evening. It can get to be a nusiance (sp?) after a lot of repetition. I usually do give in. I mean, afterall, its a community style game. I try to do as much good as I can. In big emergencies I would more than likely raise someone no problem. Especially if I knew them or they had helped me in the past. However if someone died in a party or farming from carelessnes I might be less inclined and would probably keep doing whatever I was doing. I try to balance out my own enjoyment and goals for my character right along with making Quetz a better place.
