Who's Getting Playstation® 3 Friday? 11/17 (No Wii Discussion please)

PS3 is definitely a great system. It is better than any buyable PC on the market in terms of processing speed, and at 100%, the PS3 will blow the 360 away. They just need to get them working 100%.

Really? It's faster than the quad-core intel processors?

It is a modern day super computer. The processing speed is faster than any PC you can buy on the market today.

Remember the rumors when PS2 came out that Saddam Hussein bought 40 of them to control parts of his airforce? lol Well the PS3 could probably do it, and let you check your email at the same time.

that's opinion skaw :P I'd say that there's only one good launch title for Wii really XD but that's my opinion.

Without looking up a list, name one other game besides Resistance thats available now. Cross-platform games don't count, and I don't mean launch "window" titles. Titles that aren't buzzworthy usually don't cut it.

I'll answer for her. PS3 has nothing but Resistance, and from what I played today, it doesn't even touch Gears of War.

As far as the Wii, the controller alone makes for an entirely new gaming experience, even for games already out on other consoles. I played Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the 360, have played it on PS3, and have been playing it on the Wii. Wii gameplay ripped both a new asshole. The graphics can't compare, but as far as the fun factor, it can't be beat.

Laniens obvious bias from his employers doesn't count either.

Oh, it totally does count, and Psyduck knows it too. I have always liked Sony. I had the PS1 and PS2. I like Nintendo too. I had my NES, SNES, 64, Gamecube, every version of GameBoy, and now a Wii.

Truth is that Nintendo exploited an opportunity, rather than face the market giant head on. Both have their positives, both have their negatives. If you are all about graphics, Sony is the way to go, as their system potential is unrivaled. With the processor working at only 20%, the graphics quality can still compare with the 360. But the fact is people aren't looking for something that will match it, they want something above and beyond. Right now 360 has an edge with the games, but if Sony can hold on to some exclusives like they have done with Resident Evil, rather than lose them like they did with Assassin's Creed, Sony will edge the 360 out.

It will come down to whether or not people go for the market leader and stick with Sony, or go with the cheaper, more fun system, and pick a Wii. The 360 will need another Gears of War type name to even try to hold on. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey just might be those games to keep Microsoft in the race.

not really :P cause that's opinion, opinions can't be right or wrong D: some might not want to put in the "effort" to move around so much to play ultimate alliance so they'd prefer the PS3 or XBox 360 version (also some might put graphics over all on games), me on the other hand, I'll prolly agree with Lanien XD

Called my friend today who lives in Lubboc, TX... He got 3 PS3s, lol So he's ready to eBay them.. but he's gonna come to Arlington (ameriquest field) for a tekken tournament.

But, to all who got their ps3:

happy playing, enjoy it.. you probably camped out for a long time or dished out an insane amount of money for the system. It's like a national holiday when a gaming system comes out. I remember when PS2 came out... what was it, 9/9/99?

Now we all can 'back up' claims now that systems are 'available' Someone make a new thread talking about how good/bad the system is... What they could have done better, etc.

Seriously, shut the fuck up with the "it's just your/his opinion" bullshit already. Of course it's an opinion, no one is retarded enough to think otherwise, so stop spouting it off like it's some kind of great revelation. You're not going to have a Wii if you don't want to use the wiimote, and their "opinion" on the comparison of the game between the consoles is completely irrelevant. If you don't even want to try the different gameplay(only Wii has different gameplay, that's a fact btw) then your "opinion" doesn't matter.

I don't really have it in me to have a console war so I won't battle the issues. I'll just say for me, it's something I've wanted, and like with the PS2 that I got a launch, there aren't many AAA titles but there are still great last gen games I can plan on it and great games to come. It may have issues but the system comes with a full 1 year warranty out of the box.

Anywho, I'm to lazy to retype so this is from a blog I posted on my myspace a few hours ago. This is very long:

"So, the infamous Playstation 3 came out today. All around america there was madness. People being shot, robbed, hit, mobs stampeding, and regular everyday folk waiting 1-4 days in front of a store. How did I manage to get mine with all this insanty going on? About a month or so ago a store called Gamestop (or EBgames) held pre-orders. I got off from work, saw a news story, and went to the store to wait. I waited for 5 hours and felt like a total fool, especially considering the second person didn't show up until 30 minutes before the store opened. However it all payed off in the end I suppose. I woke up today, drove to the store, and simply walked in a picked up my system. No hassle, no crowds.

Back to the system. So, I've had a few hours to mess with it now and here are my impressions:

The system is smaller then I expected. All the stories I've heard have spoken about how massive the thing is but it's actually about the same size of a an Xbox 1. Big, but not the monolith I was expecting. The look of the system is nice and it's very shiny. Unfortunatly, it's not at the top of my entertainment center so I can't really see much of it.

ps3setup.gif

Hooking it up was pretty easy, I bought a $8.00 HDMI cable a few days ago so I was kinda worried that the picture would be bad since those kinda cables can go for well over $100 but it works just great as far as I can tell. I'm not overly impressed with the X-media bar menu screen but it works. Setting my system for online play was a breeze for the most part. I simply went into the config menu, selected wireless for my internet connection and the system connected instantly. When I got an Xbox 360, it took me a few days to get everything running properly. Granted, the firmware upgrade I got then for my router probably helped with the PS3 now. Anywho, after like a 30 minute download, I tried to register my Online ID, but I couldn't use my main internet handle because the system doesn't allow spaces....beyond lame.

When that setup was done (13 gigs of harddrive space are gone at this point), I went to the Playstation store. Not too much there, a few demos, movie and game trailers, and a couple of downloadable games. I wanted to download Motorstorm but once a download starts you have to wait for it to finish so I changed my mind and tried out the webbrowser. The picture quality was suprisingly sharp (better then my cheap computer monitor) but navigating the pages was pretty cluncky. A mouse and keyboard are a must (I'm assuming you can use a mouse aswell). Also, for some reason my "good" Logtech keyboard didn't work on the system but my cheap wireless one did...odd. The pages also seemed to load a little slow. I only checked on a few pages, and haven't tried streaming video yet.

So, after playing with it for awhile I'll say it's so-so. The only game I got is Resistence: Fall of Man, it's a first person shooter...I'm not to big on first person shooters. I felt the same way about it that I felt about Gears of War which came out a few weeks ago. It's a good game, one I'll get into after awhile, but nothing all that great. Game seemed solid though but it's never been something I was hyped for so I'm kinda aching to get back to Final Fantasy XII. Problem being I wasn't able to get a memory card reader so I'll have to hook my PS2 back up for that ><.

Blu-Ray didn't impress me. I only popped in X-men 3 and skipped to random parts for like 3 minutes, so, this is a quick first impression. The movie clearly wasn't filmed in High Definition because with Blu-Rays' spiffy high quality picture, the grainnyness of the image jumped out at me. I haven't watched my copy of Talladega Nights yet but I image it's the same way. You can bring up your DVD menu while watching a movie which was kinda cool though. I haven't messed with an HD-DVD drive yet so I can't compare the two."

Since then I've tried playing some on my PS2 games and they all seemed to work fine. Tekken 5 actually looked better on my PS3 but that's probably because the component cables I bought for my PS2 were 10 dollars...Online play seems to work on PS2 games aswell. I downloaded Motorstorm and it does look really good but I don't know if the gameplay is deep enough. I downloaded a few trailers but I haven't watched them yet. I'm very interested in taking videos & pictures from my PC and watching on my HD tv (the 360 does this but not very well) but I don't have a memory stick or SD card so I'll have to wait until payday.

Yeah, I'm not sure if if X-Men was filled for HD. There still aren't many movies out that are truely HD.

Here in Florida people were camping the Playstation 3 since Monday afternoon. A storm came by on like the...15 i think and, when i drove by there on wednesday I Saw them in Tents lol...! Mind you this was a pretty decent storm.

Many say Sony's delivery of the PS3 is poor. I think it's magic.

Shortage is key to the PS3's success in many ways. Most importantly making so few and shipping them out does save Sony millions of dollars as they do lose so much money already getting them made and sold.

Earning some money back will cut down financial trauma. In other words Sony cannot afford to release such a device in large numbers on demand, they also cannot prouduce alot of the Cell processors fast enough.

As it all turns out the mass prouduction of the PS3 is very harmonic, and people will consider themselves fortunate to have one, plus the bragging rights, plus people wanting it more due to it's current rare state, and ofcoarse what it promises.

Reasearch costed them $540,000,000 and it won't be long before the PS3 costs Sony over $1,000,000,000,000.

With a user base of 200,000,000 PS2's out there, even 5,000,000 PS3 units will not be enough to meet the demands of those interested in owning a PS3. If Sony prouduced the PS3 long before they released it to the market, the company would be in some serious debt.

Anyone who thinks Sony's stratagy is poor, would believe Sony can afford to do better.

So yeah. Sony is flying through the loop holes of the impossible, and the PS3 is on it's way to being what it will become. In the end the PS3 will have the greatest mass production story in the making of all computer entertainment consoles, because Sony dodging critical points that can lead to Sony's doom with brilliance.

If Sony feels another company's technology is hindering their sales, they will assimilate the technology into the PS3 like they have in the past with the PS1. PS3 can take away it's competetors uniqueness and make it it's own. The other systems can't even start to do that to the PS3. So in the console wars it's best Microsoft and Nintendo do not provoke Sony. Already the 360 has nothing unique to compare even though it has more RAM. The PS3 is packing 256 XDR (which is the good RAM).

The rest is left up to the developers, They will most likely have the desire to make something new and outstanding, based on what is happening in the game, and not how it makes one move.

I wanna watch old school DBZ now XD
