I had a recent encounter that left me a little frustrated at S-E:
It began with logging just outside of the Grotto near San' Doria; I ran into a player named Deepbluered who had a habit of running up to spots that others were already logging at and hacking away with her hatchet. After this happened to me a few times, I sent her a polite /tell asking her to stop and explaining my reasoning in the matter. She was polite in return, but didn't seem to grasp the more complicated aspects of what I was saying. Despite her excellent English skills, I asked her what language she spoke, and she indicated "Chinese". Again on a hunch, I asked if she was logging to sell the gil online. She responded simply "Yes".
It was at this time that I contacted a GM. I relayed the story, and for anyone who is unaware, a GM can review your chat logs as well. The GM's response was that it was not enough proof of a violation.
Now in my personal experience, a confession at least merits some investigation. I can see the argument that her native language wasn't English and she might not have understood the question, but wtf, at least look into the matter. Her English was quite good afterall. In short, it seems that we will need RL video of gil selling to get a player kicked or sanctioned.
Finally, if there is anyone who wants to post about how gil selling is no big deal, feel free to do so. I have some arguments that may change your mind, but this post is getting long to begin with.
