Meh, in my mind marriage is one less thing for the homosexual community to worry about. Why not ask the government to cut off an arm? It would probably be less painful.
I was dating this girl earlier this year, and I traveled with her to Dayton, Oh, to attend a symbolic ceremony at a gay rights gathering where her mother was getting "married". It was quite the spectacle. Across the street, you had the Nazi protestors (for those that think this is a label, it's not. These jokers were all dressed up in combat gear and had swatchtikas adorning their clothing and bodies). The protestors were fun. I was having so much fun with them, that a Dayton officer threatened that he would have to arrest me if I "kept agitating the animals".
On the other side though, you had a gathering of some of the biggest "flamers" around. Some idiots were stripping down to their gstrings and dancing in the city fountain and all sorts of crazy shit. We are not talking about teenagers or crazy college kids here, these were adults. I felt bad for people like my gf's mother and others that were trying to take it seriously while others were fucking around. Seriously, some of the couples themselves were dressed like hillbillies, and circus performers (again, not a generalization, there was one couple in full makeup, clown costume, shoes and wig).
I kind of thought, how can you expect the majority to take this seriously when you can't even do so yourselves? I felt bad for all of my homosexual friends who carry themselves with dignity, but had to be represented like this.
"In the United States, there are at least 1,138 federal laws "in which marital status is a factor." A denial of rights or benefits without substantive due process, assert the proponents of same-sex marriage, directly contradicts the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which provides for equal protection of all citizens. For instance, a heterosexual US citizen who marries a foreign partner immediately qualifies to bring that person to the United States, while long-term gay and lesbian binational partners who have spent decades together are denied the same rights, forcing foreign gay partners to seek expensive temporary employer or school-sponsored visas or face separation."
This is my problem, I am leaving the country in 2 years so me and my partner can stay together. We have been together for almost 4 years.
So I need to leave the country i was born in and my family. how is this fare, i want to be with my partner so the only way for me to do this i need to leave.
If i was straight that would not be a problem because i can marry my partner and have her stay. But this is not the case
First off, I hate that statistic, vague like a horoscope.
Secondly: tough shit. If you haven't figured it out yet, life isn't "fare". If your partner is your love, great. You have found something that most people don't. You should do whatever it takes to be with that person. That includes the temporary employment or the school visa, and if need be, relocation to another country as you said. In general, a this goes for ALL couples, if you are not more than willing -happy even- to sacrifice in order to be with the one you love, then you probably shouldn't be getting married in the first place.
