i can't stand when people type "teh" instead of "the" on purpose... god that's annoying

This should've been made as a poll. Is it worth it or not? And personally, I'm totally in the "You" camp. It actually breaks my rhythm to just type U with an extra space right after it.

Wow.... all i can say is, to the ppl bitching, when is ur birthday? I'll send all of u enima kits cause u r all freakin anal! i mean if someone mispelling something is the cause of ruining your life... u need to lose the life u have and get a new one. Fuck it, why dont u go around to all the dialects of every language of the world and bitch at them and their "Slang" terms... u want some proper english then go in the corner and talk to urself for a couple hours. I say, if u know what it stands for, i dont have a problem using it.

Too true dave, too true.
Hooked-on-phonics doesn't work for everybody.

Agreed Wyldarmz, if reading a paragraph with 20 lines makes your face "turn blue" and you get "exhausted", then christ go get some exercise. Your way out of shape. If there are no commas or periods in a paragraph, you are STILL ALLOWED TO BREATH!

Otherwise suck it up, skip reading it and make a reply saying "I'm sorry, I can't read what you wrote because I'm a pussy... Please type it again properly so that my panzie-ass eyes can determine what it is you would like to say". I bet they'll laugh their heads off at you.

Basically what i was trying to say, but i cleaned mine up. If ppl get so pissed about typing things like "u", who knows how long a thread they'll write in reply to what ive said in disagreement? lol

Here's a test for you:

Write the opposite of these words:

1) Proffesional: noob
2) Crafting: breaking
3) Dumb: Nerd
4) Defeat: PWND!

you FAIL! -.-

Ahh, that work is actually spelled "Professional". Don't bitch about someone's spelling, if you yourself isn't an awesome speller.
This seems as if the "pot is calling the kettle black".

i don't see anything wrong with using 'creative' shorthand. I started using it back when AOL was popular. When I had 8 - 10 people IM-ing me all at the same time, I needed some way to get to them all without delay. I've been in keyboarding classes ever since I was in third grade in elementary school and can type at 60 - 70 wpm to this day, but I still type 'creatively.' So what? If I'm in a party in-game and I'm getting tells from people and linkshell conversations and party conversations, you better believe that I'm going to respond using that shorthand. I may not have time to type those 'few' extra letters because if I don't use them, all those extra keystrokes add up time-wise.

You can rant on about this to let off some steam but nothing will change. Have you never had a time where all you typed was '?' when you didn't know what the person who was talking to you was actually talking about? '?' doesn't mean, "I don't know what you're talking about?" but it saves a lot of time. ^^;

If I'm not in a rush or doing 4 other things at the same time or I am auto-running in the game, then yes, I use proper english and spelling when typing. If you catch me on a bad day, or i'm very busy, then I'm sticking with my shorthand.

We've created a lot of 'shortcuts' into typing long statements Uzor. Look at your signature. You used 'mt' in it. Type mistell (spelling?) instead. ^^ (easiest example I could find). Isn't that the same thing as using 'b4' instead of before or 'l8r' instead of 'later?' Just call it a special kind of 'abbreviation.' ^^

Lots of 'ppl' correct their spelling when it's a word that is most likely not understood or known to others, so I don't see it as a problem.

For typing errors like 'teh,' if it's intentional, then sure that's a big problem to me. If it's accidental, then I can understand. Because if you're typing fast and it's a long sentence, and you type 'teh' near the beginning of your two line sentence, aer you really going to delete that whole sentence just to correct 'teh?' O.o Sometimes I type too fast and type 'aer' instead of 'are' and stuff like that. Maybe my fingers are getting ahead of themselves or something; I dunno...

Okay, i've said enough... Bye ^^

I personally find it humorous that Uzor has in his signature the "letters"
"mt"
Would it be difficult to type mistell?
Sounds like someone wants attention.
Flame board troll?
I don't know I'm not here enough to know.
What do you think?

I didn't complain about people spelling things wrong. And like I said, my first language isn't english, so yes. I will spell things wrong.

My rant was towards people who don't know how to use dots, comas, paragraphs, and keep using annoying words like "u" and "r", and the numbers 0-9 as letters.

mt, lol, imo. Heck, even etc. are all abbreviations, and are not hard to read. I highly doubt you type out etcetera every time you want to involve that in a phrase, do you? However, when you involve "words" such as u, r, b4 etc. it's hard to take you serious.

Agreed Wyldarmz, if reading a paragraph with 20 lines makes your face "turn blue" and you get "exhausted", then christ go get some exercise. Your way out of shape. If there are no commas or periods in a paragraph, you are STILL ALLOWED TO BREATH!

Take one page, and write a long text without any comas, dots and paragraphs. I don't care what you type about. Then try to read it. Half-way through, you'll stop reading it because your head hurts and your eyes bleed. When I said that my face turns blue and I get exhausted, it was a figure of speech. I didn't mean mean it word-for-word.

However, if you read it out loud, you will get exhausted.

Here's an example, which one of these do you take the most serious, and have the easiest time reading?

1) hello my name is jamie I am a very clever little guy with large eyes and cheeks i am very good at math and i like to play outside with friends and once my mom said that i shouldnt be out to much because i might catch a cold but then i told her that it doesnt matter since i never get sick anyway so it doesnt matter but b4 that i told her that she better go take a bath because she smells and my dad then came and told me that "u smell too".

2) Hello, my name is Jamie. I am a very clever little guy with large eyes and cheecks. One of my favourit subjects in school is math, and on my free time I go play outside with friends. Once my mom told me that I shouldn't be out so much, since I might catch a cold. In my defence, I told her that I never get sick anyway, so why does it matter? But before that, I told her to go take a bath, since she was smelly. And to her defence, my dad answered with a "You smell too".

You can make it even easier to read if you split it in to paragraphs. For everyones sake, atleast learn how to use dots and comas... There are countless of posts on QCDN that I didn't even bother reading because of the lack of comas, dots, and paragraphs. I do read posts from people who use "u", "r", "b4" etc. but I'll take you more seriously if you use "you", "are" and "before".

And yes, I know people in America/England use different dialects and slangs. Every language has that. Aight, got'cha, wassup etc. are all ok to use,and I don't mind that. But you can atleast spell words that only use three letters properly. And whatever you say and do, numbers will never be letters -.- Feel free to prove me wrong. Please do turn in a paper to your englishteacher with no dots, comas, paragraphs, and numerical words. And please do post it in it's whole here so we can see her remarks. I highly doubt any english teacher will agree with what you've written.

And once again, I know that many people (including me) don't have english as a first language. And like I said before, I don't mind if you can't spell it properly. I also don't mind if you have grammaticall errors. But please, for gods sake, atleast use dots, comas, paragraphs, letters (no numbers), and spell out three letter words -.-

I have to completely agree with Uzor. I can usually tolerate it though, but sometimes when I see someone just type the "u" or "r" it just makes me wanna slap them.

Granted, I know this is a game, but honestly, if they don't learn to type out the "you" and the "are" soon, they won't have a good chance to get into a decent place of business. I can just seem them all writing this memo to their superior "i hav to go out of town on the 28th, r u gonna b ok wit dat?"

I critisize people too much on that part, but it's just a sliver in my side. I'll be honest, I discriminate based on search comments. Good grammer/spelling = invite from me!

p.s. I stamp my (sp) and (gp) on this post since it's the flameboard and I won't be able to edit.

hahahaha, lmao, well, I once thought of posting something similar, because I hate people who abreviate EVERYTHING, every damn thing they feel lacy to type the whole thing they abreviate, what I hate about is when there's over lap, some others don't even have sense, "PD" = Perfect Dodge, when you can type "per" press tab and enter, it's only 1 more keystroke, but I dunno.

My personal "favorite", CC = Counter Camp, Courrie Carrie, Cross Counters, Crapichious Cassie. "I was camping CC being CC by CC", I just don't say anything now, just hope they don't do that in real life, specially at school...

Eye may-k know spell wing miss cakes... Eye'm a purrrr fact spell-er! Sup, posedly tie ping lye-k tHiS wIlL knot bot her yOu. Bee cause their art know won let hers sL.aNg he er....

Anyway the point is that the above is acceptable by your standards? There aren't any numbers or one letter abbreviations. Hell I even tried to put in some periods and commas for you, and I got most of those words spelt right =P.

And I read your paragraphs... Let me catch my breath for a bit, and get some bandages for my eyes, I'm bleeding all over the place ( )
I had no problem reading that.... Theres something I've read in my life that resembles long strips of text... What could it be... OH YA! It was a book! I guess learning how to read books really helped me out, I'm glad I learned that back in kindergarden..

It's awsome that english isn't your first language, you've done very well learning it, it's not always easy. But please.... just stfu.

I also agree with Miros that people that use slang like that in RL are pathetic... Don't ever send a message to your boss like that, for the love of god. However picking someone for your party based on their grammar and vocabulary seems unbeleivably retarded to me. Don't someone because 1.) They're a jerk.
2.) They're a noob/completely gimp. (I care less about gimp...)
3.) Don't have the Expansion containing the zone you want to xp in.
4.) Your party doesn't need a third WHM... Trust me... (Invite based on the partys' need for a certain job)

I'm sure there are other valid methods... Those are some I try to follow.
