I run my the game on a GeForce FX5700LE (do not recommend me a GeForce 6, 7 series or Radeon 9880. I have no money for any and cannot afford anything that's $130 or $200). I get this while I switch between First Person mode or 3rd Person. Also I get charaters and NPC's flickering randomly close or near me. Meaning I get people disappearing or Reappearing in front of me like a case of Tourrets Syndrom.

So does anyone know how to resolve this? I was told that:

-Might be because my system overheats (I just moved my computer to a spot where it can breath to see if that changes anything.

-Or it might be POL

-It can also be the settings I have on the card or the card itself

Help me out. Thanks.

Who let you take a screenshot of me? You know I'm not supposed to actually exist!

I had that same issue with older versions of the Nvidia drivers awhile back. The current driver updates for the nvidia card seem to work fine.

I had tried to do that. There are no Driver updates for 5700! I checked the site and there is only updates for 6 series and 7. I will be deeply thankfull if you help me find the updates!

Ive had the same problem on the Geforce 5600 card. I had to go back and actually use an older driver to fix it. Sorry i can not remember the driver version number. (think it was 52.x). I no longer play on my PC. All my FFXI is done on my laptop now. nVidia does keep the older drivers on there web site.

Do you use the windower? cause this is what happens to me when I use mine, rolling back the driver is probably your best bet.

the problem is your drivers....im 110% positive. i HAD the nividia 5600 and was getting lag issues when arrows hit a mob and a couple other minor lag issues. so i went to an older version of drivers and the lag went away, but i got appearance issues with avatars and basically the same exact thing that you are experiencing. best bet is to find an older version of the drivers

I actually had problems with my graphics card recently as well. FFXI refused to start up saying "Failed to initialize direct3D"

Ran all sorts of diagnostics, reinstalled drivers on my video card (in case something was corrupted) and reinstalled direct X. No change. After talking to a TSR we figured out that it's because I had FFXI's resolution different from that of my desktop (desktop is at 1280x1024, the game was set at 640x760 I believe). Note that I did not change my resolution myself, something else had changed it.

I could however (during all the problems running FFXI) run FFXI with the windower, however I got the strange distortions you also seem to have. I still get them actually. But I found out that whenever I run the windower it puts my resolution back to the lowest setting, and if I plan to play the game without the windower (ie: so it looks good) I have to manually change the resolution in the FFXI config.

So, in light of that my recommendation is to check your FFXI config, and play with different resolutions/settings and see if that helps ^_^

I use the same exact card, had to update the driver. Use an old one, they're all the same.

I use GeForce FX5200. I only get that problem (and sometimes, not all the time) when avatars are summoned. Other than that, switching from first person view-3rd view doesn't give me problems. I don't have character flickering also. ^^;;

Well, I updated my driver. Now I have no flickering BS. So all is good. I have to also give my CPU some air so at least the card and chips inside stay at a low temperature.

Jesus I wish I could afford a Radeon 9880. -_- I wouldn't have this problem. But hell, when you go cheap, you gotta deal with it. It's worth FFXI. I think everyone can agree with that.

The driver update didn't accomplish anything. Still does the same thing.

power down your comp, unplug it and destatic. use some compressed air in the agp connector seating, and clean the pins on the card to make sure theyre free of all dust or artifacts. reseat the card and boot up.

fully uninstall your drivers via add/remove in windows.
reboot, then install the 56.64 set of drivers.

if it continues to do that, its not the drivers.
(although that verymuch looks like driver errors)

I hope the 7800 GTX is supported because that is part of my new rig and with that card FFXI should look killer, and with 2 gigs of ram I should get absolutly no lag. lol.

Get BFG GeForceFX5500 Overclocked 258MB DDR, Ever since I install it 1 yrs or go (or less then a yr, forgot when I brought it :P) I had no problem with any graphic issue, no flickering, no weird glitches, and I never install new driver on my (Btw in my experience, only use your driver version that came with your graphic card CD unless you experience some weird things on your game play.

So far GeForceFX5500 is stable for me, even with DirectX 9.0c
Since my computer is 4-5 years old, I can't use AGP 8x so i have no choice but to get 5500, or else i would get 7 series :P, and I don't know how 6 and 7 series work out or not, cuz my comptuer can't support it! XD

is possible your graphic card is defacted, you may need to send it back
could be the card is damage when delieveing

The video glitches you are seeing are called artifacts. When overclocking your video card, setting the voltages too high for the card will overheat it and the artifacts will appear. If the new drivers didn't fix your problem your card is probably overheating.

Check the fan on your card, it could be full of dirt if you have never cleaned it before. A can of air would be helpful here but if you're poor you can just pull the card out and remove the fan and pick the dirt out.

You could also go into your bios and change the voltages to your card manually but I don't suggest that if you have never done it before.

I would also suggest browsing the internet or website forums like www.anandtech.com rather than posting here where a bunch of people like me, who think they know what they are talking about, start running you in circles.
