I hope there is no more MMOs labled Final Fantasy.
SE already stated that the next MMO will be in a pre-existing Final Fantasy world at the time of release. Which means that it will take place in one of 3 plausible games; 9 obvious choice due to the expansiveness and varying race selection, 12 again for similar reasoning to 9 and the already mmo gameplay, and 13 because they've stated it to be a 10 year franchise so it's likely they'll put an mmo in that world as well. How happy I am about any of those remains to be seen.
Final Fantasy XI is definitively the best MMO I've played yet due to the quality and diversity of the community. Even when I don't have anything to do, I still enjoy spending time hopping around my various linkshells chatting with people from the comfort of my moghouse. Every other MMO I have played, everyone seems to be in such a rush to get things done, they lose the relationships they could have developed. Pick up groups I get in FFXI compared to the ones I got in Vanguard or WoW or Everquest 2 are just plain more fun. I've been told that games like WoW you need a solid guild and you'll enjoy the game a lot more, but in FFXI I've noticed that there is a far greater number of linkshells that are solid groups of people proportionately. In most games I've found that 70% or more of the population is severely incompatible with my play style, where in FFXI the ratio is vastly lower, closer to 10%.
I think that another MMO produced by SE with the knowledge they've gained from the past year or so especially will be quite a thing to behold. All of the issues that were in this game, I blame on SE being a console producer and not having much understanding of the MMO world. Now that they've learned what to do and what not to do with an MMO, I think they have a lot of potential to make an amazing game with their next release. I can guarantee that I will pick it up without hesitation, which says a lot for me because I usually have to do a few trials for games before dropping the cash on a subscription.
