You guys are really missing the big, glaring problem with female gamers; there are very few households with video game consoles in the kitchen.

The best solution I can come up with to solve this problem at the moment would be those refrigerators in Best Buy that have TVs in the doors.

The last game I played that had a female designer heavily involved was probably the worst RPG I've ever finished and without a doubt the most disappointing game I have ever played.

I'm just saying.
 
First off, making sandwiches is not gender exclusive. Neither is the gaming industry.

The products targeted to the female audience are for younger girls (such as Barbie, Hannah Montana/disney). They play like shooters in the fact it is the same style in each and every game release.

Overall, there has been a lack of decent games in the past few years. Everything has turned into caring more about the graphics than having a decent plot line (for RPGs).

Gender is probably not the issue with games or game design at all. Hiring the right people on the other hand is most likely the case. Compare the salary and benefits between a video game programmer and another programming job in the tech industry(industries). In most cases, other tech jobs will have more benefits and perks for employment. The same could be said for the writers or the other careers that are overlooked but are a part of the process within the industry (marketing can be either in house or done by a separate agency).

While looking for a job in the gaming industry, there are very few associations for people interested outside of college. Such memberships are small and take some research to find. This industry is considered to be young and still developing at the present; Whereas film and animation have more well established practices and recognizable associations. There is always room for innovation and improvement in when it comes to video games.

Having the right people with the passion to design a great product makes the difference. Programmers alone cannot make a successful game.

A lot of guy gamers scare me because once you stop talking about games they have no idea what to do with you.
 
If I hear a chick start talking about video games I just end up treating them like anyone else and I go off on a video game super convo.

Trick is to find a guy who isn't a gamer, but plays many video games. Such as your truly! <.<

But seriously, I know what you mean. I've met a few guys who, when it comes to women, are just like, "Huh? Wha? Girls... nah... they got a screwy D-Pad." O.o Sometimes it's funny, other times it make me sad for them.

For instance, girl I'm "seeing", went out on a date with some guy a few weeks ago. He was a shy, nerdy, video games & role playing in mom's basement type. I give him props for asking, but it was doomed to failure. She tried to be polite, she's very well read, so she asked what books he's read lately.

"Well... I don't read much. Last book I read was Planet of the Apes."
"Oh? Well... I remember reading Lord of the Rings when I was younger. Great book."
"You like Lord of the Rings?!"

All downhill from there.

She called me while I was at work to tell me about the date. I laughed so hard that the customers started to stare... <.<

I know two female gamers irl. A third one loves Guitar Hero and plays it with her boyfriend all the time. My little sister also plays a lot of games, and pretty much every woman I know likes SingStar.

Actually, come ot think of it, I know 4 female gamers irl, not counting my sister. And I mean women that plays games besides Guitar Hero and SingStar, which are mainly social games anyway that are fun to play during parties. Said 2 other girls love RPG's.
 
I used to have a girlfriend that whipped my ass in SSBM

Like, really bad. She played Sheik.

Ended up making me a lot better at the game.
