World of Warcraft... what?

CubsWoo said:
The problem I saw with the PvE and RPG servers was that NPC were fair game. Is this a widespread problem, or is it overblown?

I had (have) a lvl 60 undead warlock on Uther (PvE). The NPC's are fair game but worse than that, they take a year and a day to repop. And the Alliance wanks (at least on Uther) get dozens of high-levels (40-60) and basically set up camp in Crossroads, a place where people are levelling 12-20. There are TONS of quests in Crossroads, it's THE place for Horde to be for that level range (Silverpine blows goats). Even when there is Horde resistance or not enough Alliance peeps for a full zergrush, casters make surgical strikes into town to pull NPC's out and DoT them to death.

And yes it's safe on a PvE server unless you flag up, but there are ways to coax or trick people into doing that. Run over someone's kill as they right-click to loot it, crowd their camera esp. if they're in 1st person, send a flagged lowbie in as bait followed by stealth'd rogues or druids, etc. I hear that they changed a rogue skill or two so that a party of 5 rogues can keep basically anyone stunlocked for much longer than it takes to kill them, all they have to do is get the first hit in. God help low or mid level chars on PvP servers, esp. the people that *must* go into Alliance turf for quests or important drops.

For the record, I quit because I ran out of stuff to do. Synthing is next to worthless, I don't enjoy PvP so Battlegrounds or "Honor" don't get me off, and I got sick to death of running the same instances over and over so that some loser could ninja the good drops. I watched a hunter win the lot on a piece of shaman set gear, when fully a 1/3 of the people there were shamans.

And I'll add another flame and say that Return To Vanadiel is one of the more dicked-up promotions I've seen. I couldn't restore my character because even though I did everything I could to close out my account, apparently my PlayOnline ID never got cancelled, which was one of the many conditions on having chars restored. Hey Squeenix, if you want people to come back to FFXI, they're less likely to do it when they try and the first thing you do is bend them over.

lol i have found WoW fun in my first week of playing, as a matter of fact, i polymorphed a level 60 undead priest into a sheep tonight XD (17 Gnome mage on stormreaver)

I got up to 60 with hunter and I have yet to meet anyone as cool as the people that play final fantasy XI but thats becuase I'm pretty much a loner in that game. Only reason I still play it is becaue of the pvp other then that game lacks really cool missions like FFXI.

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=245210&poll_id=0&warned=ythis is a pretty bad picture of the test server but after I this mess I cam back to FFXI :)

Ive been playin FF11 for a year now and Im feelin WoW alot more.

Now the thing with FF that I dont like everything u do almost depends on other ppl to do it, its damn near imposible to solo anything beyond a certain point for good XP. DCs and EMs get much harder to solo at higher lvls. And ppl are starting to become real dicks in FF. And at times I dont feel like my character is my character imma rng and if I see another rng same lvl same gear there no difference between us, exepct for game knowledge. The options in the character creation are extremely limited ( and theres no black ppl in FF11). Not to mention sitting for hours gettin nothing done seeking or shouting for high lvl help on shit thats damn near imposible todo.

Now in WoW in this since is completely opposite with acception of priest every class can solo 90% of the time. I like having the option to solo things if there nothin else going on and the rest system is great for ppl who dont get much time with the game. My friend was gone for a week and when he got back he had 2 full lvls of double xp. And there so many thing u can do to your character and your gear to make it your gear, enchanting, armor kits(ups the defence on your gear), special items that u can attach to your ranged weapons and normal weapons like potions that add elemental effects. I feel my reddogneo in WoW is my reddogneo (and if I like I can make my character black).

Now as far as the PvP issues it does bother me with ppl kill the wind rider constantly and anyother npc I need to talk to. But 5 min aint that long for a respawn and I can wait for that. But to fix this they need to apply some serious penalties for killin ppl way lower lvl than u. Im in a pv3 server and I do get tired of completely laggin out everytime I goto crossroads or ogrimmar but thats the price I pay for likin WoW more. Theres just not enough in FF that beats WoW the only reason ppl dont like WoW is cuz these shitty PvP issues.

I think SE and BLIZ need to put there head together cuz there is a really strong community in FF11 but really strong charater customization and additional thing u can to to your self and your gear in WoW. WoW may have the upper hand in my head but they have some seriouse flaws to tweek out, like makin it harder to lvl maxin a character in 3weeks is fuckin ridiculous. And FF11 needs to add more PvP options at least makin it so u can duel other ppl. I tired of sayin to another sandorian member my character is more kick ass than yours and being able to prove anything even in ballista.

I dunno some of the quests I had to do were pretty fun XD...like this one where the warlord of the centaurs starts raiding a small encampment and you gotta fight with all the npc warriors and stuff and kill him. Now that was a hoot

Then that warrior sucks... if you sheeped him at 32... the second you nuked he should have intercepted you and hamstrung you. Even if you blinked out of range he should have enough HP to outlast your mana and tear you apart within seconds of when you got in range. Either exaggerating too much or you fought the crappiest warrior on the server >.> eh...

I've been gone for a while now, and the entire time I've been on WoW.

I've got a lv60 troll Shaman on Stonemaul(Yes, it's a pvp server).

So now that that's out of the way, I'll explain some things about the game.

From 1 - 60, you're given the option to solo, group with your best buddy, or do whatever the hell you want really. Quests can get repetitive but that's a given. Blizzard put at least two or three "Go fetch this, kill 15 of such mob" in every town to get you started off and exploring the area. Aside from there, there are usually another several quests with the backstory concerning the people in that area or little town that outweigh the "Go kill 15 of such mob" quests. I found it to be far, far more fun on the way to the end of the game in WoW. There's no feeling of grinding, you can really enjoy the game(even on a pvp server, even after the honor system. Go pve if you can't take the heat. Carebears are always gonna be carebears whether you like it or not.)

At 60, you get the usual "endgame blues" that you get with every MMO if you're closeminded and look only for pve options. Honestly, FFXI has nothing more than WoW does for endgame content. FFXI has all of Dynamis and HNMs(I still stand by my opinion that spouting dribbling mess in front of your monitor for three hours while waiting for a single mob to spawn and then hoping to god you can claim it before some other folks does not go under entertainment, but to each his own), and WoW has instances from the beginning of the game until the end of the game. Instances are your group's own personal version of an elite dungeon(there are a TON of instances for all level ranges in the entire game). When you get to 60, the instances tend to be a lot like Dynamis. Molten Core has lv62ish elites that hit for 1500 dmg a swing(Average max hp varies from 3000 to 6000 depending on your class and stam gear). They're definately not easy, but there is a downside. When I first stepped into MC and you start going.. or any endgame instance for that matter, and some nice loot drops that's BOP(bind on bickup) you get dynamis competition all over again. Remember running Dynamis 20 some odd times and still having no relic gear? Welcome to end game of EVERY MMORPG. I really wish they'd drop this crap, but apparently some people enjoy slaving away every weekend and having a crappy chance at getting something nice. Aside from that, the instances are all very creative and the game itself is nice on the eyes. Definately easy to get lost in the environment.

There are tons of great ways to go from lv1 to 60, you're not forced into doing anything you don't want to, and the game is just really fun. On FFXI, even with my closest friends, I couldn't do anything. Two lv75s on FFXI won't do crap except maybe a BRD and a NIN fully decked in the best of everything, and that's just ridiculous. On WoW, one or two guys can go out exping together, do quests together, and really just enjoy the game without being forced into a group full of idiots. This was my biggest complaint with FFXI. Yes, it's an MMORPG. No, I'm not paying $ every month to have you ruin my entire day because you suck at your class and the game is so dependent on parties. Blizzard saw this and fixed it thank god. Only thing in the entire game you absolutely NEED parties for are instances, and you don't NEED to do instances. They're just there for equipment that's a -tad- better than regular stuff you can buy or make. This is speaking as a cap lvl character on a pvp server.. you CAN wreck people with equipment that's just "good enough." Cloth classes benefit from this more than anybody else. Mages/priests/warlocks especially don't need to run instances for all the "phat lewt" and can still hold their own fine 1v1 and 1v2 depending on your skill in pvp.

And finally, pvp. If you're on a pve server, well that sucks for you, because the honor system really is a great thing and the pvp servers benefit from it so much. No, there's no downside to ganking somebody below your level, but you chose to be on a pvp server. Blizzard has a nice long part of the site devoted to warning people what they're getting into if they choose a pvp server. Being on a pvp server is all about being ruthless and living out the REAL world of /WAR/craft. If you'll take a look at the actual story of Warcraft, the horde and alliance are at /WAR/, and it's not pretty. I personally enjoy this. So what if you steamroll me with several people? I'll just rez and figure out a way to get you back eventually. It's fun like that. Cubs, what you mostlikely saw are the official WoW forums, and those can be explained easily. All the crybabies and little twelve year old fanboys and e-wimps go there because they feel that they've been cheated. If they lose, something is obviously wrong with the game and needs to be fixed. Since those are the -official- forums, they feel that if enough of them whine together Blizzard will think that they matter and make the game easier for them. Sorry, but the doomsayers and such are all just a bunch of little children crying about the sky falling. The honor system is actually pretty awesome, pvp in most areas is nice(I'm on a mid-high pop pvp server, doesn't get much more congested than that), and more than not, the guy with more skill will win out. There are areas that are zerged like crazy with massive amounts of players from both sides, but that's usually only Hillsbrad, and there are tons.. and tons more areas that aren't zerged and are very playable.

Most people who whine about WoW just usually suck at the game. I've got my shaman and have a hunter on the way to 60(the omfgwtfgimped class) and it's all very balanced in my opinion. As far as the earlier post about hunters being nerfed into oblivion, I hate to break it to you, but hunter is a class that takes extreme skill to win with in pvp, but once you master kiting and changing your aspects on the go, this is possibly one of the godliest classes in the entire game for pvp. It's a shame people blame their lack of skill on the development team and then cry foul when they don't win. I assure you the devs don't sit at a desk going, "Let's pick on this class this patch just for the hell of it." All nerfs/buffs are imped for a reason, and if you know how to play the game, they usually don't effect you to the point of "I'M QUITTING THE GAME BLIZZARD, CHANGE THIS NOW, WAHHHHHHHHHHH."

And that is my take on WoW, lv1 to 60, pve and pvp, on a pvp server, before and after the honor system. All very enjoyable, all very awesome. End game instances make me a little nostalgic and I feel like ripping my hair out when I get reminded of dynamis, but you don't really need the crap from there anyway, and they're nice to run with guildmates if you're in a nice guild. Loot's easier to distribute that way and you don't have people being bastards. Pvp isn't for the light hearted. Don't choose to be on a pvp server if your ego can't handle being smashed by somebody way above your level quite a few times on the way to the top. All of us on pvp servers have earned our stripes and we like it that way, now we enjoy it at level 60. It's definately more satisfying than being spoonfed everything on a pve server and never having to watch your back or having the thrill of being jumped and somehow by the grace of the WoW god himself surviving and beating your would-be ganker, then sitting back and going "Damn I love this game."

Conclusion: WoW rocks the hell out of FFXI. I am lv60 now, speaking at endgame point, and pvp offers so much. Definately something you can log on, enjoy, pvp some, log, and feel like you had fun as long as you're not a crybaby and don't expect everything to go your way. Unfortunately, a lot of people are exactly like that and that's why they should just go to pve servers.

-Mithe.

Lol yeah I totally agree with ya mithe. People complain about the gankings even at 60 in guild chat and i'm like... wtf did you join a pvp server if you only wanna pvp when you WANT to?

Man, I was running to do my poisons quest (22 rogue orz) and I have to tread through an extremely high tension pvp zone to get there, and I'll be damned if I wasn't completely raped 5 seconds within zoning in, corpse camped, and ganked until I finally reached my destination (it is not very close from the zone into hillsbrad either <_>)

Bout an hour later I finally got to the quest completion NPC, got my poisons, then ran back out to join the action. One of the fag rogues that shanked me was just standing around not really paying attention and I managed to sneak up, sap him, and sprint away. Just for the hell of it XD

They didn't get any kind of reward for killing me but that's pvp for ya. It's even funner since theres no penalty for dying to other players, so the worst is delayed resurrection and the corpse run (big deal!)

The instances are IMHO the most fun part of the game, being someone who loved Dynamis in FFXI =p and the group effort required, but I have to say there are a lot more idiots as far as WoW grouping goes, like rogues who dont know how to stealth around and aggro a shitload of mobs and wipe us 50 times. It's aggravating but you aren't losing XP, and the money for repairs really is not that harsh. Take it from me on this, I have never been one to go out and farm junk items to make money... but on WoW I can actually find myself enjoying running out, farming for a mere hour and coming back with enough money to get me a full new set of equipment, all my trained skills for the next 4 levels, and money to train crafting skills also! Hell instances not only are great xp but you even make massive money doing them, especially off the rare drops no one wants to claim and aren't rare/ex types. I am seriously finding myself to enjoy WoW more and more as I play it XD

This is overblown. I play WoW right now on a PvE server (Doomhammer) & I have not seen any bad things from this 'honor system.'

Of course, I'm only 14 levels in, but I've never seen any horde raid parties or anything attempting to sack towns or whatever. I have seen one Orc that was lying dead outside an Alliance town. That was *it*.

It's not as big of a deal as you think.

Wow sounds cool but one MMORPG is enough for me, FFXI.

But I'd just like to say you definitely can't judge a game from the offial forums.

Anyone remember planetside of who played it? It was a really fun MMOFPS game, a unique one of a kind game. It had its own flaws like any other game but overall a good game, kept me interested 6 full months.

If you were to go to the offical forums though

"Bitch BITCH BITCH BITCH WHINE WHINE WHINE"

Each country of the 3 had their own version of a close counters heavy duty firepower weapon meant for close range. One weapon was honestly gimped, the heavy chaingun for the TR, and everyone agreed with it. So eventually Sony gave it a HUGE buff putting it at par giving it its own strengths and it was thena respectable weapon, most of the people from that courty agreed too minus a handful of people. Yet there was this one poster from that country that STILL BITCHED EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY. Every single day this person made page long bitch fests whining about how he gets owned due to this said weapon and it's not good enough.

This is the kind of crap you'll find on offical forums sometimes, the biggest whiners to grace this planet in 10,000 years. That was one of 100s of examples. Hell it was evena discussion board, it was a place to complain to the devs. If you were trying to enjoy the game you could do so quite easily be it a 10 on 10/20 on 20, 300 on 300 battle for terrain in vec battles, infantry, sniper, hacker, engineer, medic, heavy firepower , delivery person, harvester, fighter pilot, and a few more things.

I'm not saying the game had obvious flaws bercause there were things about it that annoyed me. But the forums really dragged this crap out.

lmao i loved planetside for the 3 months I played. The only gripe I ever had was those stupid magmowers on VS XD, they could at least give them the right physics, since hovercrafts shouldn't be able to mow up and down hills so easilyi, according to the FAQs and guides out there... but I heard they balanced that out somewhat. Game's changed a lot since I quit around the time of Core Combat

1) I didn't try to fight him....that's suicide.

2) Every time he/she did that "dash" (I forgot the name, where they run at you very fast), I just blinked or nova'd. Very funny

3) I was near death when I got to town, but it's still funny that a 54 warrior couldn't kill me; a little 32 gnome.

4) Oh.....by the way......my mana owns you.....and so does that arcane ability that allows you to regain your complete mana back in seconds (long timer though).

Oh one more thing:

The 54 warrior was an idiot because he/she didn't use his/her mount to catch up to me.....

So I was probably lucky in the end.

Warrior is equipment dependent.Once a war 27 gave me hell of a time at level 34.... but i did manage to kill him. With my new ring it usually takes a while for a mage to turn me into a sheep... but thtats if i let him/her cast hehe. With current talents/technique and poisons i usually don't let a mage cast. But yes a good mage can take down any other jobs... they are not [too weak] like in FFXI.But u still need a priest / druid to heal in parties for HNMs and instances .O yea priests can walko n water =) and mages can smn a midget or a demon... or mechanical pets hehe.FFxi needs abit more veriety when it comes to mobs and armor.
But great thing is npc sell arrows and shit so a job is not a pain in ass.. but i if u wanna be uber u need to level engineering for it.

Also as cubswoo said that it would suck if the ppl are killing NPCs for honor points... but the NPCs are civilians and u lose honor points if u kill them =) .But the guards and high level NPCs give tons of honor points.yea lol i love farming in WoW
