WoTg lack of content

The one thing that SE could of done to ease the pain in the ass that COP was, but still leave the content open for lower level players is implement 'phantom gear'. Kind of like the 'phantom' items in Besieged but with gear instead. Have sets of gear that are specific to jobs that automatically equip when entering one of the level cap areas and disappear when you leave. Honestly I found CoP to be a big serving of donkey balls - the story got way more credit than it deserved and the level cap areas made it impossible to get help. I like ToaU, it makes me laugh, you can do a lot of it on your own, the areas are nice, the new jobs (-1) rock and Abquhbah is a sex god.

Merits were out before CoP came out, I had capped regen before then and I was annoyed that I couldn't use it in the promy's.

I came across this and thought that didnt seem accurate. I looked up CoP release date Sept 21 2004, Merits were implemented July 2006. I remember Cop came out before I was getting the advanced jobs, and merits were implemented when I was 75.

Also if the job you had at 65 when CoP came out (I was thinking that was your 2nd 75 job) you were not 65 when CoP came out. I remember you were in my party when I got Guillotine on my DRK with your MNK, and that was well after CoP came out.

EDIT: My date was inaccurate. Group 2 merits were added July of 2006. Must have been the Group 2 merits I was thinking of.

Your date was inaccurate, but the refutation is still true with the correct dates. (And I do find it amusing that earlier in the post he had himself made a dig about sucking with dates. :P)

July 2004 (pre-CoP): HP/MP, Attributes (these carry over with reduced effectiveness when level capped)
September 2004 (CoP release update): Combat Skills, Magic Skills, Other (these also carry over with reduced effectiveness when level capped)
February 2005 (CoP up to 8-1 with this update): Job-specific stuff (which does not carry over when level capped), such as the aforementioned Regen merits

If SE wants people to stop subbing NIN, they need to make monsters not hit like fucking dinosaur obliterating meteors. NQ Campaign mobs hitting 300-400 is ridiculous. Even NQ Besieged mobs hit for less.

wtf, are you kidding me? I tanked Campaign mobs as 75WHM/37SMN and had no problem tanking them with Stoneskin and Blink. Even with Stoneskin down I never got interrupted while recasting it.

Sure, Gnoles etc. was harder, but Beastmen (Orc, Gobs, Yagudos and Quadav) was no problem tanking at all.

Quit Campaigning in the newbie areas, or against Orcs. Rolanberry, Pashhow, Sauromugue, and Meriphataud are death sentences. Your higher tier Quadav and Yagudo take VERY little damage, while dishing out overpowering amounts. Vhuud Vanguard are exceptionally disgusting. Being Thieves and able to triple attack, taking 1000-1200 damage in a single attack round is fucking nuts.

Campaign monster strength varies. The high tier ones are ridiculous.

My monk hit 75 in November, so I don't think that was me in your party, because I didn't level that fast until 70+. It still doesn't change anything about what I'm saying though; most of the players were 75 or close enough that they could have participated in the missions if they were left uncapped. Capping the missions did nothing for low level players; they still wouldn't finish most of them until they were higher level and they didn't get anything of importance before then.

The timeline is really irrelevant, Khajit is just trying to use it to excuse for SE's piss-poor idea.

I've done Campaign in every area...

I have to say though, the Yagudo BLM NM with perma-flee is a pain in the ass. The SAM Yagudo NM in Fort Karugo-Narugo was quite annoying as well. Nothing beats the annoying non-beastmen NM's in the dungeons though.

I can't say Rolanberry, Pashow etc. normal Campaign monsters were a "death sentance", though. Yes, the NM's are annoying, but those are an exception.

I don't know about you, but when a monster can break my stoneskin in 1 hit, thats kinda lame.

Well, their morale might be higher now, or they tweaked it :P I haven't done Campaign since it was first released. True, only little over a week ago, but they've had maintenance on it.

I mean, back then I was, like, alone to do it. Never saw anyone with the sword. And now there's 139 people doing it at a time, so it wouldn't surprise me if they upped it. I could practically solo them back then.

Some campaign mobs are total pushovers: hit for moderate double-digit damage when they do hit, often miss, come in reasonably small groups.

Other campaign mobs are murderous: bigger groups, hit very accurately for 200+ a smack, and in some cases hit multiple times.

Needless to say, the first sort makes for very easy player victories. And the second sort tends to be a matter of a lot of player corpses and the mobs eventually "winning" and warping out.

Let's just say it needs a little balancing. The easy ones honestly shouldn't be such pushovers - and the hard ones shouldn't be nigh on impossible. (I mean, the hard ones might be manageable if we had forewarning that that group *would* be hard, so that a great big crowd could show up to participate, but there's no forewarning for campaign at all, and certainly no forewarning of mob strength.)

Really, the problem isn't strictly them hitting hard. Its the fact that they take next to no damage. This results in very little enmity being generated, which makes curing even more suicidal than fighting them
