Wrestling Thread! Wrestlemania XXV...Texas!

I missed ECW last night, what was the crowd like when Vince came out and said they weren't going to mention Benoit anymore?

The benoit signs at the smackdown taping were all confiscated...Such a giant letdown as you guys said.

I know everyone's going to jump on the 'zomg it was roid rage' bandwagon but I don't buy it. Did Benoit use them? Sure. Do most wrestlers? Probably. Were they prescribed? In this case, yes. Just brushing it off as steroids is trying to find a simple one-line answer to something that was probably very, very complicated.

...Investigators found anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."

...The boy had old needle marks in his arms, Ballard said. He said he had been told the parents considered him undersized and had given him growth hormones...

"The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage," the company said, adding that Benoit tested negative April 10, the last time he was tested for drugs.

I've also heard that for the past year he was acting parnoid. Supposivly he picked the place where he was at, was due to him being parnoid. He even wouldn't let his wife leave the house from time to time. This could also be the reason why he wasn't involved in hardly any promos or was on the mic throughout the year. If you notice, he was hardly involved in any major rivaleries(sp). He had some but they weren't deeply involved because he barely talked.

Here are some comments bret hart made about the situation. I haven't seen it yet cause I'm still at work so I dunno if it'll shed any light on anything.

I dunno how long this was posted but here is a link to the text messages that were sent out. WWE finally decided to release them. I dunno if it was all of them though. Most were just him telling where he lived.

This hit rock bottom.
No pun intended.
So far things are not in the favor of Benoit.

Investigators are leading to believe that he killed his wife and son while being under the influence of steroids. But just like Bret Hart mentioned, we'll have to see once the test results are in.

In time, we'll see if it was Benoit's intent or were drugs the factor?

Reading up on Benoit's text messages sounded like there was a problem at the house. I dunno, but maybe it was his form of a suicide note?
Normally when someone has that set in their mind then go about a process of writing a note because deep inside they want someone to know what was going on with them. At first, this was hard to determine, but I'm starting to think he did it intentionally.

I saw the video with Vince.
I agree he handled the situation well.
I wasn't sure what the tone or mood was during the show
since I didn't watch it.

I guess from here the WWE has to just push forward, and stay strong.
The loss of the three must hurt a lot of people, but if Benoit's tests prove positive then thats adding insult to injury. Perhaps this is already occurring, so now people just have to remain strong even in their disbelief. Then, once the facts are straight, we'll understand, and just move on with the show.

Viscera, going to ECW and being pushed up sounds interesting.
Its already been mentioned, but he was pretty good heel as King Mabel.
He was even played a good supportive role when the Ministry of Darkness came to be in WWE; he didn't say much, but he was a powerhouse.

I'll definitely be following up to see how this turns out. :-)

I was annoyed that Vis didn't come out last night, but props to everyone who wrestled on ECW and put on some great matches, even Icantwrestle Cena did a good job.

I was a pussy and I didn't watch ECW fully, just didn't feel right if that makes any sense.

Yep, before you know it will all be forgotten. By that time he'll probably be deleted from the face of wrestling with the way they're taking him out of everything.

Yeah it does feel weird. Now whenever I see him in old matches from some of the DVDs I got, its going to feel a bit akward. I'm just glad I didn't get his DVD like I almost did when wal-mart had it on sale for $8 something last winter. I had it in my hand and thought about it but I held off and got another one that was on sale.

Welp, this whole Benoit situation spells the end of a 20 year watching career for me. He was one of (if not the) last guys who was the gimmick. Seems the best WW(e) can muster these days is to assign the tough guy gimmick to some premadonna fuckwad that can't carry a bucket of piss, much less a match, and toss him out there until everyone gets bored. See John Cena.

I don't know what the answer is, and I'd hardly call wrestling moments lightning in a bottle, since there have been many over the years, but it seems WW(e) is no longer capable of capturing said lightning. Compare whatever went on at the last PPV, Vengance I think, to Hogan and Savage shaking hands on Saturday Nights Main Event. The last moment I can honestly remember my friends and I standing in my living room screaming was when Benoit tapped out HHH at 20.

Vince needs to take a look at his product. Ironic that a man who has done so much for the business has also destroyed it. The run in used to be special, not expexted. A chair shot was something to see. Seems all the remaining 'superstars' are either incapable, or unwilling, to deviate from their horribly predictable move sets, let alone swallow their unearned pride and take a quick fall to a small package. Looks like work ethic died with Benoit. Hopefully the rise of MMA on TV will motivate Vince to start trying again.

I just hope the rise of MMA will provide enough competition for wrestling to get good again like it was during the "monday night war" days.

Hopefully the game developers will make sure to take Benoit out of the upcoming video games that should be coming later this year...

From the link Sorrow posted:

District Attorney Scott Ballard said the autopsy indicated that there were no bruise marks on his neck, so authorities are now assuming he could have been killed using a choke hold. "It's a process of elimination," he said.

Because this thing wasn't fucked up enough?

Could be a setup for all we know. Someone could of hung benoit there to make it look like he committed sucide. This is just a wild guess though lol.

Sorry to go off subject, but thought you guys might like to see this:

Film Auteurs who happen to be WWE Fans: This is your time.

Ziddio.com is a new online video site from Comcast where we partner with other well-known entertainment providers to run ongoing contests that reward video creators. In addition to the prizes you can take home by winning a contest, all videos submitted to the site are considered for TV placement on Channel 1 On Demand, a channel watched by over 9 million digital cable viewers.

One of our current contests is WWE’s Biggest Fan Contest, where we’ve asked fans of the WWE to create 60-second videos showing why they’re the WWE’s most fanatical follower. The winning video can take home $25,000 and a trip to WWE’s SummerSlam.

So if you’re a huge WWE fan who just happens to be the next Scorsese or you’re a struggling filmmaker who could use 25k and some promotion, we think Ziddio could help you by getting your work in front of a lot of people (some of whom are actual industry bigwigs). And we think you could help us by creating something entertaining that we can put On Demand.

This contest ends in 37 days, so grab your WWE action figures from under the piles of DV tapes, practice your pile driver, and call in all your film crew favors. Contest details are at Ziddio.com.
