Yea, i'm sure there was more than enough food around during the first 4 days when the only people on the ground were news crews .. while i have no idea about the guy, i'd say competition for food was intense and while i don't condone looting something for monetary value i can absolutely say without a doubt that breaking into a store for some food during a disaster while waiting on the government to get off it's ass is more than defendable.
