Every Christmas I'm faced with finding the ideal present for our parents. It's not easy ;p Mom's are always the easiest to shop for. You'd think 'tools, fishing gear, hunting gear etc' for the men, but when they're 50+ and have more than enough gear for all the things in life they love, what then?

Combined gifts, gifts for the couples,... well it's usually something they use for the home, which really is a gift for the moms that the dads will just have to nod and appreciate =p Restaurant Gift Certificates for a night out? Sure, except when 1 couple lives in the sticks of Newfoundland, CA. Not many choices there.

So here it is, I'm stuck for ideas. I have bought 4 tickets as a combined present for all the parents to share a night of comedy, that was a great year, quite proud of that one I must say. However, I'm not sure the in-laws really 'got' the humor, but it's the thought yea? They had fun out with my parents regardless so I suppose it was a success.

I often think to just give cash, they can use it towards whatever their hearts desire, but soooo impersonal =|

Don't know what to do. I'm starting to feel the anxiety come on !

Any suggestions would be a great help. Let me know what you did for your parents that was a hit.

Last year I had a picture blanket made up for each couple. These massive throws with their favorite picture of their new granddaughter. That was also a hit.

Matching coffins.

In all seriousness, I really have no idea lol. Buying gifts for my parents became functionally impossible after they retired; when they want something, they generally just buy it, and they live almost as far away from me as you can while still being in the continental United States. I suppose they could move to Alaska but that would be about it.

One of my co-workers suggested giftcards for their grocery store or somewhere that you know that often need to buy items very often. Still might seem a little impersonal. It's the same with my grandparents. I just don't want to give them another dust collector.

I'm still at a lose as to what to get the in-laws.

My mom I bought a new series, she doesn't get the chance to read as much as she used to and it is a little harder to buy books for someone, but I think she'll like the 3 I got her. My dad I'mma get a GC for a local hardware store and lots of candies & chocolate and give it to him in a stocking for shits n giggles. I think he'll like that ;p My parents are about 15 years younger than Brads, that's a bit harder too. I feel like getting them warm clothes but it's SUCH a cop out =/

get em a fucking Bratz doll. Everyone loves Bratz dolls.

well, if your parents are anything like my grandparents, family history is big to them, how about a subscription to one of those ancestry or family tree websites, so they can trace the family tree back, I know my grandfather really enjoys stuff like that.

Or you could always have a laugh and get em on of those giant tv remotes with the comically big print buttons. XD

Personally as an older, though not grandfather age, tool junkie, I want one of these:

It's affordable, yet pretty new so he probably doesn't have one yet.

This year I bought my parents a gift card to a home improvement store and am promising to come this summer to help rebuild their deck.

I would personally love something like this. It's all organized and efficient! Unfortunately, for my 50 + dad's, they've pretty much acquired all they'd need and want (less for the overly costly toys), and tools aren't disposable. If they did misplace or break something, they'd likely have replaced it shortly after...

They're friggin tricky! I got my folks figured out. I always like to get them something they'll remember. The costs, although need to be considered, really mean nothing to us. It's about getting them right =)

I've made my parents pictures before. They have a specific wild animal they love, so I stained and lacquered some pictures for them, they turned out nice ;p

The inlaws.. oi, I'm still at a loss. I'm actually thinking I should get me mudder a beautiful cake platter. A pedestal platter. And his fadder, probably some new boots. The terrain they live and work in can be pretty rough and with them getting up in age.. a really good pair of boots could make a big difference.

But even still, I'm not happy with my ideas. This isn't usually the case, I'm usually quick to decide what to get everyone and hold pride in my ideas lol
