Xbox 360 manufactured shortage

I agree with the earlier statement about a lack of a killer app, but our household is the quintessential gaming family, and we eventually somehow manage to get every system the current generation allows along with retaining the previous generations for pure gaming goodness sakes.
I was really looking forward to handing this over to my husband real early so we could dig right in >.<

Perfect Dark 0 is quite cool, I played a demo at one of our local Wal-Marts a few weeks ago and liked it instantly.

M$ sure did a great job getting these things out there to whet gamers appetites, only to bend them over backwards Deliverance style at the 11th hour

Well, I hate both the XBox AND it's games. Halo and Halo 2 were the most BS things I've ever seen. They killed my old love for FPS.

PC= silver tower you can play games on
XBOX= PC flipped on it's side, painted black, given mantatory controllers
XBOX360= PC with a PS3 look to it

On the same note, the PS3 is still vaporware, and will not be the gamers saviour all the Sony fanboys/girls think it will be. Granted, it will probably dominate the market again, which is great. But while the core of the unit is still the size of a microwave oven in developers hands, technically its vaporware.

I should have reiterated my intentions in this thread, it's a flame against big business screwing it's customers in an extremely unfair manner.

It was not in any way intended to become another "my local sports team can beat your local sports team" arguement over console/brand superiority.
I <3 all the systems the big 3 puts out, its the essence of being a gamer, to appreciate the best everyone has to offer.

But the Cubs can prob take the Brewers, I still think.

I got an article that actually says WHY the PS3 is going to be the kickass one on the market. If I find it later tonight, I'll post it up here. All's I can remember from it is that Playstation is going to have wicked realisticness to it. Apparently if you shoot a guy off the edge of something, they'll try to grab on and you can shoot them off. They're going to make the game terrain a lot nicer too. Also, the graphics will be unlimited to the extent of the developers' patience to actually make and release the game. Sony's developing a newer version of the Eyetoy for a game that you can instruct the characters in the game to do whatever you want. They react to your voice, your facial expressions (wtf), etc. Other than that, I can't remember much.

What a bargain!

wow....

ehh.. I work at EB and I helped out with our midnight release on xbox 360. the thing sucks

We got our unit int 2 weeks ago, the thing heats up like crazy is already starting to break

Don't get a 350 if you don't have a high def TV, that is all.. I hate the xbox 360 and xbox I suck at sports games and FPS

Such my non-existant dick Microsoft ></)

I was never a fan of Xbox, and from what i've seen I'm not much of a fan of the Xbox360. That aside though, I can remember every release of a gaming system since Calico vision.
Not once do I recall any "serious" shortages of a gaming console in the marketplace.
Hyping any new system is a given, its been done since there were only two, and only heated up since microsoft and sony entered the market.
Also, the release of any of the systems (not always) but definatly tends to be around large holidays like christmas.
Not that I have specific numbers to toss around, but from what i've noticed the general process goes:
Hype it 2-3 months before release by releasing tasty screens and configs. ->
Purchase large amounts of retail footage for displays and wall space for release day -> give a vague and generalised "manufacturing problem" to the media -> release shipments of no more than 10-30 units to any store per-shipment. -> send shipments every week or 2 weeks.
even at two weeks per shipment 10-30 units is hardly a "shortage" but it Does create the apperances of a lack of units available compared to the likely number of people wanting one.
i'm no economics major, but it seems like a pretty simple and effective business strategy to me to keep units on the market low, in order to keep desire and prices high.
The problem is people have the mentality of "i want this", and microsoft knows that their only real competition is Sony, who won't get their system into the market for Months. By playing off people who get it locked into their heads that "they gotta have xbox", keeping availability low, and letting that feeling create a cyclic desire in their heads until these people actually get one, they do a pretty good job of insuring that people that just need to have the next new thing, or, parents that need to get their kids the hot xmas gift of the year, eat up alot of sonys potential market shares.
I wouln't call microsoft evil for such a scheme, part of good marketing is having a strong understanding of 1. what people want 2. how to make them want it. and 3. how to make fence sitters want somthing even if they aren't sure.
Personally I think even with the advantage of having their system out alot sooner than Sony, Microsoft is going to find that any campaign to take up more of Sonys market shares will fail in the long term.
Simple fact is Sony has the better product, even if it won't be out soon.

Syn rocks ^^

I'm with him on all his comments aside from calling M$ evil.
I was raised by the Flower Power generation and there has always been a need
to pass blame on to a big conglom-o in my family since I can remember. XD

I'm bought xbox because it had more harddrive space/better controllers than ps2.Obviously the games were better also since the graphic system and such was better.Ninja gaiden and Rallysport alone were a reason to have one.But ahh now all you ps2 lovers can cry a river since FFXI is about to be xbox 360 "game".And the graphics look nice... trust me.So quit wasting time.

And you're WSM, enough said. I for one will probably get the 360 eventually, like next year when I have $600 to shell out for the console/some games, and when some titles I would want to get are available for it. Until then I still have a thread of rpgs on PS2 to finish.

Bah for no edit.
Anyways and wooh the 360 is getting a (4)? year old mmorpg, congratulations! Still only think the majority of 360 FFXI players will be ones switching playforms anyways, so it won't have that much of an impact on the game.

I think it is hilarious that Moore says creating an artificial shortage is ridiculous........*coughDeBeersDiamondscough*

And? It's not all about graphics you know? It's about storyline and gameplay. Now I see why many old generation gamers hate the new generation gamers. Graphics is all that matters for the mayority of the new generation gamers. I am not from the old generation gamers, I admit. But I've learned from someone that belongs to the old generation gamers and that one is my aunt lol. He thought me many things about videogames and made me a videogamer XD. And... FFXI was realeased for PS2 FIRST, so it's a ps2 game. lol I remember the game that was supposed to be released long ago... and it looked like a copy of FFXI. "Omg lolz True Fantasy Online is gonna beat FFXI lolz just you wait and see lolz Xbox is gonna have the best mmorpg! Just look at the graphics! FFXI can't beat it lolz sorry ps2 lovers lolz"
Some time after...
"True Fantasy Online project has been canceled."

I am saving money to buy PS3. ^_^
