So I was arrested at Safeway today. Put in handcuffs(got a nice little cut on the base of my wrist to prove it), pat down, the whole deal, fun times. Charged with shoplifting (bullshit) and carrying an illegal weapon, which is true. Gotta show up in court on March 27th to plead my case. So I guess I have a criminal record now, which sucks, cause I was hoping I would stay outa the system until the really big one, that way it would be harder for them to catch me, owell though.
The cop saw my visine and lighters, but I outwitted him with my superior intellect and dodged that bullet. Thank God I didn't have any pot on me.

Fuckin pigs

What was the weapon and why did all this happen, before anyone says anything those are 2 big facts you left out.

Um what did they accuse you of stealing... did you have it on you? Did you have proof that you didn't?

What weapon did you have on you?

It was a switchblade that I've been carrying on me for years. I knew it was illegal but I never counted on getting arrested.

Honestly there's no way I'm gonna convince the judge I wasn't stealing. I have a bad habit of putting my hands in my pocket when I'm walking around the store with something. It was a doughnut and a couple string cheese sticks. The reason no one is gonna believe me is cause I was headed "to the door" when they stopped me. I was going to look at a corkboard (by the door) with a missing puppy notice on it before I checked out, and I guess that was too far for them. When they stopped me and asked about it I took my hands out with the food and explained myself, but I guess that store is run by a bunch of jackasses.

I did lost prevention for home depot. If they stoped you while you where still inside the store it is a big NO NO. You have to had physicaly walked out of the store for it to be shoplifting. If i where you I would get in touch of the district manager of that store or the loss prevention district manager, and explain to them that you where reading the corkboard and you had every intetion to pay for the items. Again this only works if you had not steped out any doors when they stoped you.

Harsh, you should just get a nice pocketknife though, fuck carrying a switchblade, not worth the risk and its probably a crappy blade anyway.

Yep its true, after high school I worked at Office Depot for a year and it was the same policy. You cannot stop someone and accuse them of stealing until they are out of the building. As for the switchblade thing, I believe those are illegal in Canada but I thought they were ok in the states as long as it was less then a 6 inch blade.

I carry a pocket knife in my jacket everywhere, its about 4-5 inch blade and worst thats ever happened is a bouncer took it after patting me down and I had to retrieve it on my way out.

This is very true. I worked LP for The Great Indoors and the policy was the same. You would do well to follow Mugen's advice and take action tonight. Document everything. Come prepared to the court date.

Yeah somethings not right, if you were inside the building you havent shoplifted, yet... So you could explaint that to the judge.

Yea, they have to catch you leaving with it, so they can't charge you with stealing. But they CAN charge you for the weapon. Then again, they wouldn't have searched you if they didn't think you were stealing something so you can say that it was a wrongful search lol.

This is all true. I have a friend who has done LP for a few stores and I asked him. Unless you officially leave the premises with an item, you haven't "shoplifted" yet. It's not illegal for someone to say something like "Excuse me sir, if you have any items on you please come pay for them before you leave" or something like that. But what they did to you was. I'm not entirely sure if you could win a wrongful search case, but you could definitely get the charges dropped since you didn't do anything illegal.

Don't you blaspheme my knives, I'm an avid collector and carry only the best.

That's what I thought, but apparantly in the state of CO, it's considered theft once you put it in your pocket, or "conceal" it, even if you're still in the store. So I did break the law...apparantly, that's what the police said anyway, but I never had the intention to steal, I figure that's gotta count for something.

All automatics are illegal here, and all fixed and folding have to be 4 inches or under I believe, which it is 4 inches, but illegal nonetheless

I would still call the District manager of the store and district manager for the loss prevention deparment. Explain your situation, if that dosen't work i recomend you get a lawyer. Thats if you don't want a record.

Typical stoner. Carrying a lethal weapon, stealing shit, murdering billions of innocent people. That was on your agenda, right?

I think you should definitely get a lawyer. It will be worth your money to make sure you end this thing on your court date.

LOL

And, having worked at a Safeway, they stress to the employess not to do what you did. Then again I live in AZ where its not illegal to put your hands in your pockets.

Id fight this shit out. Tell the, you were still in the store blah blah, and if the cop doesnt show up your free to walk. You plead your case, he doesnt say his, judge has no choice but to believe you.

I just carry around my passat keys and pretend the keys a switch blade cause its got that cool button thingy and a laser cut key! It's rather blunt and wouldn't be good for stabbing....

Sucks that happened to you, but I don't understand you carrying a knife around you either. I don't see why you need to..i mean my brother carries his pistol to the bookstore and other places..even though he has a permit..people are crazy @_@
