Yellow Mage/ Time Mage

Ok, I just heard that WHM may be getting Hastega. While this is nice and all, I still think a time mage would have been a better addition.

Give the time mage all spells relating to speed, time, and status.
Stop, Haste, Slow, Break, Bind, etc.
Give them abilites that prolong buffs or cut off time for status effects.
Give them traits that resist bind, slow, stop, etc.
Make them melee/mages so they can fight rather than just be a sideline mage.
Give them a 2hr that doubles their movement speed or attack speed or something.

There are so many possibilites with time based magic, a new class should have been obvious, but I guess its just me.

It would just have been another job with the same spells that the other mages have. Between WHM, BLM, and RDM all the spells are there and doubled. Another Mage would just clusterfuck things more then they already are, I think.

True, but if this job had been available from the start, it could have really been something good. But it doesnt seem SE can think 5 seconds ahead of themselves.

I agree. The way things stand now: "You want it? We got it" pretty much sums it up, I think. I only wonder what level they are gonna make Hastega.

We have a full alliance of different jobs. I doubt SE will add any more, just enhance the current ones. Like PLD. *HINT HINT*

Like Keket said, there is nothing that Time Mage offers that another job doesn't already have. Slow II? BRD. Haste II? BRD. Decreased status effect duration? BRD. Resist Bind/Slow/Petrify? NIN/SMN/RDM.

Time Mage is BRD, but without any decent buffs. Nobody will sacrifice a party slot for a support healer, at least once they're into the higher levels. Time Mage offers nothing that another job can't do along with other things TIM can't do.

18 that play differently?

Yea:

4 DD (WAR, MNK, DRK, SAM)
1 Healer (WHM)
2 DD Magic (BLM, BLU)
3 Support (RDM, COR, BRD)
4 Summon (BST, DRG, SMN, PUP)
2 Tank (NIN, PLD)
1 Ranger (RNG)
1 SATA (THF)

Too many of the jobs play alike. I guess in the end though, YLM would just be another support while we continue to lack in healing. I agree the jobs are different, but they play the same.

Yes, we have 18 different jobs. No, we dont have 18 jobs that play differently.

(This is how I view the jobs. Your opinions may differ. So Im not saying this is how it HAS to be.)

While there isn't another job that's really main funtion is healing, I don't know how many times as a whm I've been out done by an over achieving RDM thinking they are a WHM, lol. or a SMN that says, "just sit there, I can do this". We are certainly not lacking in the Healing department. And if every job played TOTALLY different, that would suck. How many times have we tried to set up PT's and there arent any one job on? it would really kill PT setups.

You confuse me. You're saying you only want one tank in the game, only one healer, only one support? Because we know parties need all 3...

Excuse me, I'm highly offended by your choice of name for "Yellow Mage". For your benifit I'll list the politically correct translations for all the mages. Thank you. There -will- be spelling errors and you -will- be dealing with it.

Black mage - African Mage
White mage - Cacausion Mage
Blue mage - Affixliated Mage
Yellow mage - Asian Mage
Red Mage - Indian Mage

Have a nice day, and remember, be politically correct!

And btw Mai, I'd put SMN under healing, as they can heal fine and right now they need to to be arguably effective in pt's.

Super DD - Rng, Blm, Blu
DD - Sam, War, Drk, Drg, Mnk
Support - Rdm, Brd, Cor
Healer - Smn, Whm
Special - Thf, Bst, Pup
Tanks - Nin, Pld

No no no, im just saying that this is how the jobs are right now. I know that some jobs can shift into other areas, (like PLD can DD if he must, a SMN can heal if they must) Im just saying that this is how most of the jobs are viewed and that there is little difference between them and that just because there are 18 jobs, that doesnt mean that they are 18 jobs with specific functions in the party. Many are DD, some are Support, but nothing really has its own specialty.

But, I guess creating specialty classes gets harder with the more jobs you have.

There needs to be more than one of each class, but it should be divided evenly and their should be more specialty classes.

Please fit a Green Mage in their because in FFXII there is Green Magic. (Which oddly enough, are your spells like Protect, Shell, Mighty Guard etc.)

Wait what? PLD can DD? since when?

Anything that can deal damage can DD if NEEDED. For all intensive purposes, any job can fulfill the role of another, but not to the same extremes. (Shall we revive the age old argument of WHM tanking?)

I say PLD can DD, but I didnt say anything about it being as effective as a DRK,MNK etc.

Since they first made PLD. It's just that they tank so much better than they DD.

How is this age old when only one person has ever even considered something so unbelievably silly?

What would a green mage be :O

And I understand what you mean, no class is set in stone in their role, but their role still exists which is what they are most effective at doing. A whm can DD, eat accu food get str gear (what gear they can) but they can't DD half as good as a lot of other classes. Likewise, a war can sub whm and try to main heal. See what I mean? No classes' role is set in stone, its flexible, but classes are usually best at something and that is referred to as their role.

In truth, I'd like to see geomancer, would def be unique. Their spells are based on terrian/time of day/weather ect or something.

Also, another non supportive ranger class (not cor), more like a rdm ranger then anything else. A class that uses crystals as bullets and pistols as their weapon would be nice, and would specialize in status effects while doing decent damage.

As for healing, I'd say a super healer/defense mage that specializes in nothing but defense and healing. Uses their own hp to heal and cast spells instead of mp, that would be an interesting twist, and as a result their spells will really be something.

Maybe not on this particular forum, but on other forums (especially Bismark server sites) the WHM tanking topic can get pretty heated.

I was hoping Time Mage would be a new job in the recent expansion which I would go over to right away as my main and take it all the way up and ditch rdm, which is why I went to get rdm to 75 before the expansion. Yet Time Mage and rdm are pretty much similar in the way, along with some of the other mage jobs.

I really hope they give rdm an AoE refresh though in one of the future updates for rdm. Mages ballads and that AoE refresh would definitely reduce resting and save rdms an extra 40-200 mp or so.

Posted for truth. I agree with everything here. Each job has their specific abilites, but because of the player base that is in effect, everyone feels "PLD tanks, SMN heals, DRK DD, end of discussion." While these combos are very effective, it doesnt leave too many openings for job exploration. NIN/BLM or something to that effect.

Yea, I'd like to see Geomancer too. I may not play it, but it would be a Unique class. Because you dont have a set role until you know where your partying and what wheather effects are going on. (Say, Konschtat Highlands, added Earth damage, during a lightening storm, added lightening damage)
