Your dream SJ if effectiveness was not an issue?

My ideal combo which i brought up in the ls and quickly got shot down.
MNK/NIN
I thought the idea of a counter tank with blink and uber high evasion sounded pretty intriguing. We can dream can't we?

The only problem is you'd lose hate pretty fast, since you'd sacrifice damage without a attack speed boost from Dual Weild, and lack provoke.

MNK/NIN is supreme solo though.

Hee hee, I had to get in on this. :o

I was planning on going as a Samurai/Red Mage. I figured Blink, Stoneskin, all the En-spells and the Spikes would be great!

And also, I'm in the Dunes with my first parties now (I don't get to play very much  ) and I'm seeing an aweful lot of DRK/BLMs. They seem to do pretty well too. So I'm to assume this combo looses it's lustre as the levels wear on?

Drk/blm is actually alot better than drk/war pre 30. /war Is by far the most useful-popular melee sub, but unless you're tank, it doesn't offer much until 30/15 with berserk, and later on at /25 double attack, and for jobs that don't have one, attack up trait at /30.

But drk/blm is really an all around better combo pre 30. 20-29 drk/blm gets magic attk increase trait making those aspirs and drains hit more accurately, and more base mp.

/drg is also a very good subjob 20-29 for melee. attk bonus at /10 and a jump.

And about rdm/brd, everything fire said, plus because giving all 1-3 mages ballad ontop of refresh so the whole backrow gets 4mp/tick, they can also pass etudes and prelude around to melee/rng, which is easy. Or sing any AOE buff song. While the difference wouldn't be huge, it would be noticablely slightly.

About base stats, brd has the mnd and int equal to that of a rdm basiclly, so no lose there.

Max mp is for bad parties and emergencies, good parties mage-wise are good more thanks to mp regen and proper resting techniques.

The only complaints I can see are as follows

-No status cures for certain mobs, but most mobs have nothing but poison and slow, and haste covers the slow. Minus the rare exception

-No converse mp, but ballad cancels that out
-No escape
-No elemental seal for sticking emergency situation sleep on a link/add.

Of course, if there is already a whm and blm in the party, the points that are anti /brd become almost completely worthless then. blm/ and whm/ cover the above. And often times status cures such as silena, stona, and viruna while occasionsally needed, are not the majority of the time until later levels.

Of course when you think about it, /blm on rdm is more for avoiding bad situations, while /brd is geared for keeping a good party rolling. So I'm not claiming one is better, rather, both are good subs, along with /whm.

Firestreak wanting to be a drg/smn? Lol who would've ever guessed that.

I can honestly say I haven't had to use my elemental seal + sleep in quite a long time. I keep my enfeebling capped so sleep, sleep II, sleepga, pretty much always stick. Only time I use elemental seal is if I want to do a more effective drain or magic burst.

lol rdm/brd just sound complacted
but would be nice ive seen couple play around with this the do pretty well, though also seen some bad to
would like to try rdm/smn or smn/rdm sound intresting massive buffs with smn with enfeb from rdm side also with the mana tick and refresh you could keep a pet out as long as you want so might be nice soloing to though i told myself i would not lvl smn till i got fernir just got to fight iferit and gardnia 1 more time then ill be rdy :D

ive seen thf/rng thf/war thf/sam thf/nin
surpriseingly the thf/sam do pretty well get tp really fast
/rng nice have to do alot of moving but still gain tp pretty fast and brarrage is nice

/war use mainly because it good if you need to take hate of a tank and also good for thf to get into postion to do there sata so i can see why lot people use that sub.

heard some people thinking of trying blm/nin because of the int bonus
i wounder if they get bigger bonus then if they did /rdm? might have to try it some time

saw a whm/nin once now that was a funny sight whm with 2 wands had to i roflmao on that one.

i got to try out smn/blm in a party yesterday. it was a little weird at first. i was so used to having /whm on i would reflexively go for my cure macro. but once i got into a rythm it was actually fun to try out something different. and my spells were fairly strong. but i would only recomend this with an experienced group. not with noobies.

If I was to have alot of interest in blm I'd probably stick with /whm so I can help cure. But the base int stats gained from /nin are the same of rdm and whm or better. I imagine this combo would be for dual wands pre 51, and for utsusemi, which is definitely a high point. However I find max mp on blm to be a bit more importent on blms than whms and especially rdms. Even in a party going perfectly fine, certain blms like to emtpy out their mp pool alot.

Maybe blm/nin would be possiblely better geared for blm cannons...But as far as I can see, there have been tons of successful blm cannons with /whm and /smn for blink and stoneskin from /whm and aoe blink and mp regen from /smn.

ive seen thf/rng thf/war thf/sam thf/nin
surpriseingly the thf/sam do pretty well get tp really fast
/rng nice have to do alot of moving but still gain tp pretty fast and brarrage is nice

Being a thf I've tried those all and /drk. I still prefer /war for xp but have had some good experiences as /sam. But I prefer /nin for many things non xp. Utsusemi is almost useless in an xp party as thf, doesn't come into play much. So it's dual wield vs store tp + med vs berserk + double attack+ attack up + warcry.

Although like I said, if it was accepted I'd be thf/brd 8)

Whm/Nin
I am actually working on getting my nin lvld now. So i can farm and have fun etc.............
Can we say dual weild kracken club and darksteel mace
hehe yea right like ill ever get a kracken
:?

Al buddy, how can you post and add in :P I want to know what you'd be or what you wanted to be orignally.

I do war/whm often enough that I can't call it a 'dream' combo so much as a 'weekdays' combo. I'd like to try war/smn though - as useless as it is, running around in my red sports bra with Carby bouncing along behind me sounds pretty f_cking cool.

What else... maybe war/brd just to look like an idiot singing in a Hauby. Barehand mnk/rdm for en-spells on ridiculously fast attacks.

make it easy. Lets demand a third sub, that was we can make god jobs like PLD/NIN/WAR. Granted they'd need to be atleast 24 for the full effect, but hey, I think most PLDs would sell their soul for such a possible combination. SMNs could do SMN/RDM/BLM to become an effective nuker (joining their avatars) and keep the ability to cure.

unfortunately, I think this dream would be too overly powerful.

That opens up too many insane combinations.

Pld/Nin/War- Provoke, Pld Hate/def, and shadows?
Rdm/Smn/Brd- Do I need to explain this one? O_o
Drk/Thf/War- No way.
Sam/Rng/War Also... no way O_O
Drg/War/Sam Double-ditto
War/Drk/Thf Yeesh.... now here's an insane one.

Well actually i use an odd sub for one of my jobs...

I'm Thf/Sam for faster TP build, which seems to work well I usually only take one hit on the return trip thanks to Third Eye and i can just about pop SATA Viper Bite at the start of every fight, pulling hate quickly away from my first voker..... but man do i get a lot of crap for it  Hehe but i'm not one to worry what other people think of my gear/job, as long as i think i do a good job, i'm happy

I'm suprised not to see more Thf/Rngs, i would think w/ Flee and Widescan, not to mention SATA you would be an uber puller!

i guess none of yall actually Really know me.. i went all the way to 74 with only drk and nin as subjobs
lol...
mage subjob? im sorry, no thanks
