Your Respond/Reaction After Saddam's Death

Like Tommy Lee Jones said in Men in Black:

"No Elvis ain't dead, he just went home."

my response/reaction: lol

Just how I see it, I believe that there shouldnt be any "life sentences." Its a waste of space and money to keep criminals alive if they are just gonna die in the cell anyway.

All criminals that have commited some sort of murder should be killed in the same manner, (or however most of his/her victims were killed) Makes it fair, right? Not that killing someone in the first place is fair, but Criminals do sometimes get easy way out.

I imagine hanging wouldnt be too fun, but I dont think you suffer too long, but I dont think he wouldve suffered too long if they had him blown up or shot. Unless they shoot his feet, and slowly go up or something.

You do realize that the death penalty is alot more expensive then life imprisonment.

Generally hanging is painless, it snaps the neck. If for some reason your neck doesn't snap and you're just hanging there, then yeah it'll probably hurt but that's not usually the case.

lol, umm... how?

*goes to home depot*

10 yards of rope: $10
1 Milk Crate: $2
Some paper, ink, pens and other assorted items: $5
Watching someone hang and fulfilling the death penalty for less than $20? Priceless.

idk where our logic comes from. Maybe it costs more to inject them with poison by lethal injection or something, but where tf do you get that its more expensive? It isnt. Supporting someones life til they die is much more expensive than killing them off lol

so your solution is kill everyone in jail? or kill everyone who is a murderer? Do you know how many people would be put on death row? its not like we don't have enough on it already...

Good riddance...

Here's a piece of advice: If you don't want to be hung, don't become an evil dictator.

In the US it might be. Hanging in Iraq most definitely was not.

Even in the US, it is far more costly to keep someone in prison for life than any form of execution...Unless you were to burn someone alive buried in a pile of 5 million bucks.

Yea verily. Remove the legal fees involved in the endless appeals process for executions in the US, and it's a HELL of a lot cheaper than life imprisonment, by several orders of magnitude.

The problem is that the opponents of capital punishment include the aforementioned legal fees and court costs in their calculations of what an "execution" costs. And oddly enough usually leave them out of the calculations on the side of the people imprisoned for life who also go through the appeals process.

That maybe. I just didn't wanna comment on that because I've heard both things. But I can be pretty confident in saying that hanging someone didn't cost that much.

The opposition would do anything to make their point seem "correct". And that is a big part of the problem, when people cannot answer a straight forward question with a straight forward answer.

You're right that repeated appeals and paperwork add up to be much more expensive than an execution. I'm not sure what warped corner of the mind of the opposition makes them think that working legal fees into their argument is relevant to the question, "What costs more, life imprisonment or execution?" ...And I am unsure who the fuck even listens to these people. It's like a contest to see who can make the least sense.

When I am talking of execution, I'm not talk legal fees.
Legal fees are entirely separate costs (largely bullshit to begin with), from the actual cost of execution, no matter what method is chosen.

I highly doubt the government would agree with those costs being bullshit. Particularly on the local level.

Unfortunately there's a correlation between tax/government revenue and having the highest imprisoned population in the world.

In short it behooves the government to keep people locked up. Hence the tapdancing. Live prisoners generate more money for the government than dead former prisoners. As well as keep quite a healthy sector of people employed with constant appeals (lawyers, judges, etc), prison staff, parole officers, police in general, etc, etc.

You don't want to be the guy who comes out with:

'We make a bloody mint off these people, why on god's green earth would we be chomping at the bit to kill them?'

in tomorrow's USA Today. Shit like that ends careers. Truth has no place in politics or governmental revenue sources with consideration to the subject matter. It's not anything anyone wants to hear and even less of something those who will be listened to want to say for fear of their careers circling the drain.

I don't care where you're from, the costs of the legal dealings leading up to an execution are not part of the costs of executing someone.

They ARE part of the costs of dealing with any legal matters.

I agree with your points of the gov't basically being crooked as hell just to turn a profit...

Dog's gotta eat.

Truth be told i'd rather they got what they needed from either the depraved, degenerate, or the stupid instead of dipping further in to my pockets for it.

As harsh as it sounds i stand by it.

'Course ... i've never been in any legal trouble since shit got real after 18 ;)

To hear truthfully what they "need" and how much it costs according to them would be "interesting".

That said, I don't think you're being harsh at all.

Yeah post 18 it gets real, lol.
