I see this mistake a lot everywhere on QCDN.

Let's clear this up :).

You're = "You are" 2 words separated by an apostrophe.

Your = Third party possession.

alot = not a word.

a lot = massive quantities, note it is 2 words.

Now, let's briefly study the several uses of these words.
Incorrect usage of 'you're'.
~You're gear sucks.
When expanded as you can see, this sentence makes no Goddamn sense whatsoever:
~You are gear sucks.

Correct usage of 'you're'.
~You're wearing some suck ass gear.
Notice if you expand the sentence you will get:
~You are wearing some suck ass gear.
_______________________________________________
Incorrect usage of 'your'.
~Your wearing some suck ass gear.

Correct usage of 'your'.
~Your gear sucks.

I'm aware there are a lot of other simple grammatical errors that linger on the boards. But I hope this will help most of you out there that do not know the difference between the correct and incorrect uses of these simple homophones.

Have a nice day :o .

Addition:

To - Adverb (I think) - a >> b

Wrong: He is coming too.
Right: I want to play FF.

Too - Adjective - Used mainly as "also" or "as well as" but also for "quantities"

Wrong: I need too buy Amemit +1
Right: I need Amemit +1, but it is too much!
Also Right: He needs Amemit +1 too.

Two - Noun/adjective - a number

Wrong: You need two buy better gear.
Right: You need two pieces of gear.

2 - Number - This is a special case...numbers are not supposed to be used unless it is a large number - somewhere above 100 or so, but most people dont follow this rule

Wrong: j00 nub, 1 1$ g0nn4 g0 2 j0ur h0u$3 3n k1ll j00 2!11 - You should never right like this really
Right: I need 22222 more gil, but it will take too long to get it!

Grammar can be fun, and also helpful to know!

Don't forget this Gem.

Proper usage of There, Their, and They're

There - Pointing out a Location, "The Guardian Crawler pops over there."
Their - Showing Posession, "That is their NM pop, do not claim it."
They're - "They are," such as, "Wow I hate people who use wrong words. They're so stupid."

A pedantic post needs to be 100% correct to be amusing :P

Kudos to the Prince though, who did it in style.

I hate when people say "alot" its such a pet peeve... fucking spell it properly, I don't think I've seen a single person ever spell it right.

Alot - "I will alot each player one million gil."
A lot - "Gee, that's a lot of gil."

Alot is a word, but everyone uses it wrong.

Theirs alot of gil your intittled to Deucrobont if you manege to pull you're head from your ass

:shock:

I can speak well enough for law school if the need arises, however I usually speak in less eloquent terms when I'm at leisure among friends.

same goes for when i'm relaxing online. i talk how i'm thinking and often mispell things sometimes even on purpose. theres teh time to be serious and a time to hang loose. Honestly ppl, so uptight O_o;

also:

Wrong: He is coming too.
Right: I want to play FF.

isn't the one labeled wrong, actually grammatically fine? Or am i delusional...?

Yes, but context was probably used such as when someone was unconscious or comatose.
