You're gone, good, go away

The fact of the matter is, and I think this is what certain people are so hung up on, is that the unofficial Windower *is* in fact against the ToS. However, calling it a cheat by itself is going a bit overboard. It provides simple functions, that, by any sort of reasonable sense, should already be there. Even though I don't use the plugins myself, there's just an aura of simple convenience to them, which SE has still failed to provide. It's just one out of their hundreds of failures, of course.

What I say now shouldn't be taken the wrong way: some rules should be broken. Using windower is fine for one sole reason, SE has still failed to capitalize on it, and make something better. In short, they aren't earning their keep. (hi AV)

Some, at this point, might ask how this point of logic is justified, how it could also be used to defend gilbuyers, hackers and script kiddies. The answer's simple - MMOs are defined by your interaction with others. Buying gil/gold, using fleehacks, bots or any other sort of tool that directly circumvents game mechanics somehow is something only a pussy would do. It's a complete bastardization of any of the game's good-natured, healthy aspects, instead making them into stressful, annoying drama fests. Doing any of these things completely destroys the natural sanctity you share with fellow players, it also verifies your scumbaggery. (I like that word.)

I believe I've said this line before: nobody gives a shit if you hack Pokemon to get a Mew, or cheat in any other 1P game. If you cheat in an MMO, you're just trash.

Yet, SE very rarely, if ever, acts against these hackers. Once again bringing me to my point: they're not earning their keep. In that regard, though Windower is indeed against the rules, I won't fault anyone for using it. It does nothing to harm others, anyone who thinks it does is taking things just a *little* too personal. Or they have ulterior agenda, but who can say.

And no I'm not a blind fantasizer, I do in fact know that regardless what efforts are presented - there will always be cheaters and gold buyers. However, it's important not to lose sight of one's morals, and always stick by them. This post is an attest to that.

One more thing...yeah, it is just a game. But is there some reason to keep stating the obvious? Seriously, that excuse is pretty fucking old now. There are also two different ways of saying it.

It's just a game with a bunch of make believe characters, who cares what I do in it.

It's just a game with a bunch of real people playing with me, who cares what I do in it.

/hmm

You pay and pay for god knows how many months, in the end you get what, fucking nothing!

You pay (in both time+money) for the experience, if you're only wanting a real lasting benefit, no video game can give you that. After eating a good meal at a restaurant most don't regret that "now that it's over, dollar menu would of been just as filling", after paying $10 to watch that movie, you leave the theater with $10 less than you started.

I quit a good bit ago, and have zero intentions of coming back, but I don't regret ever playing. I paid and spent time for the memories (though it's only in hindsight that that becomes apparent), I'll never forget fighting Kirin for the first time, killing Tiamat, my first Nidhogg kill, getting raped by AV, obtaining a Novio earring, etc... fond memories even now that ffxi is a thing of the past for me.

well, i meant that in the end, you dont really end up with anything as far as real life situations.. all that time i BSed by playing this game, i could have concentrated more on going back to school, instead of staying at a dead end job.. although we all live different lives and have different problems or what not, you will come to realize how much time has been wasted; unless you are like 13-17 where it does not matter and your only responisbility is to clean your house and finish your homework for school the next day.. my ass quit because i had a son, my brother(ultraseven) quit because it wasnt fun anymore that i wasnt around to play(he lived in west coast while im east coast). but as you get older, everyone else will get older, they will have their own problems to deal with in RL, and they will end up quitting.. this game has been out for awhile, but will this game still be played in 15+ years? and if you plan to play this game for the next 4 yours, yall are just a bunch of nerdy losers, lol... but with all joking aside, yes, its just a game, and good for you iaredrew for qutting, and Psylentcuda, you is just one pussy fuck for making a stupid thread and not understanding what iaredrew's intentions for his post..

yes, flame back.. and report me for vulgar words. this site is the least of my worries..

There is nothing wrong with playing this game or any other as long as it remains a past time only. The day you begin to sacrifice real things such as losing sleep on a work night or spending real cash on gil is the day to take a step back and take a good look at what you are doing.

Don't get me wrong, my opinion of this game leans towards the "waste of time" side, but I have always enjoyed wasting my time because it is my own to waste.

And to bring this back to full circle, these are all the reasons that the original OP for the good times thread, left.

Wrong, you do learn from playing this game. Just as you learn by watching a movie or hearing a song. Friendship is one thing you learn. I have many friends in this game and some of them have even extended outside of the game. One can not live on work alone they have to have something to fill the void of time between sleep and work. Some do this by drinking, others do it by playing sports. This things are call hobbies. They build character and provide enjoyment (most of the time). It is an avenue to relieve stress, to meet people, even learn small amount of skills to work together to complete a common goal. Wow, that word sound familiar. Goal the result or achievement toward which effort is directed. May be you didn't enjoy the game, so go find something you enjoy doing. The game is only good if you enjoy it. When it become more of a chore then it no longer become a game. I end this by saying “He who wants a rose must respect the thorn.”

Meaning if you going be disrespectful how you say it, expert something sharp in return.

edit: even if it was not meant to be a slap it was one, and some of the goodness of intension can bring forth thorns if worded wrong.

I know I learned a thing or two about politics from this game =P

I also learned all about teamwork, being a leader, all about the words "fair", "legit", learned a few lessons on morality/ethics, and a host of lessons that can only be learned from experiences that weren't likely to happen until starting up a career, it's nice to of already made critical mistakes and misassumptions about the nature and motives of people and "rules", and my favorite: damage control when shit hits the fan.

okay? you do learn from playing this game.. but all the dumb shit you learn should already be knowledgeable to you if you are old enough.. but you are missing the point of what i was trying to say.. what i said on my previous post partially meant nothing towards anyone but towards myself and what i learned about this game and real life.. you're so nerdy for what you said, and no matter what happens, nothing will change that.. i understand every word you say because i experienced the same shit.. i had 4 lvl 75 jobs, okay, i was a nerd too.. lol.. im not sure how old you are or anyone else who disagrees with me, but whatever i say wont make you understand, but until you experience it yourself is for you to understand when you get older....

If you were bringing in failing grades, the burden's on YOU to bring them up. If you're stuck in a dead-end job, it's up to YOU to go out and find better work for yourself.
Don't blame a game on something you're too lazy to do on your own. Shit, I'm willing to bet if you hadn't been introduced to the game you'd have spent that time watching TV or something.
Don't blame a game because you can't prioritize.

Agreed.

Talking to a wall is pointless.

Back to the topic at-hand as mentioned by psylentcuda.

I wouldn't have had a problem with Alfonze's "heartfelt" goodbye, had I not taken this shot on July 3, almost 2 weeks after he purportedly quit:

btw, if you sold your account, or let a friend use the information, it'd be nice to know whom I'm snapping pix of in Whitegate also.

Talking to a wall is pointless.
You be surprise at what could be on the other side of a wall. Saying the right words may get a response from said otherside.

He actually didn't log off for the final time until last week. 99.9% that was still Alf.

still - i wouldn't make a "piss off, goodbye" post until after all my stuff was settled ingame and i'd gone completely AWOL.

You're using logic? In the flameboard? What the hell is wrong with you?
