Reading this I am getting even prouder (or more proud ?) for all my 61.4 fishing skills I got so far without hacking. Own accomplishment feels so much better than hacking, believe me.

This is kinda off topic, but when I clicked the link to where it details what's on FFXIapp, I almost punched a wall: Japanese to English translator. Just WTF. I'd get this program for this option ALONE. Do you know how much this would open up the game and break down the walls if this was implemented? This kind of stuff should have been in the game since day friggin ONE!

I'm surprised that something like this is available to be made ingame and shocked at the fact that it took some outside programmer to create/implement something so useful, obvious and most importantly NOT A CHEAT. SE has no reason for not putting this into the game from the start. This gives no one an advantage over anyone else and I'm truly pissed that we havent seen anything like this ever done for this game. Shit, if someone else was able to do it, why not the devs to this game! Was anyone else as shocked/annoyed at the fact that we have the ablility to talk to our JP friends in realtime without having to <Meat> <Jerkin> around with the auto-translate since we dont obviously have to?

If it's anything like most other translation programs out there, you're gonna get pretty garbled (Engrish to the extreme!) results translating either E to J or J to E. For the simple reason that both languages can depend highly on context. Even professional programs don't give results much better than babelfish, unless the structure of the stuff being translated is highly organized (think of official documentation or textbooks or academic papers, as opposed to conversation or dialogue).

For a translation program to translate well, it would not only have to come up with the literal syntactic and semantic possibilities but it would also have to *understand* the message being conveyed in order to determine the context and use that to fill in omitted words and select the *correct* possibility from the several options it comes up with. And at that point you might as well ask yourself why you're working in the translation field instead of the artificial intelligence field.

You should really do research before saying stuff like this. Agris is a possibility, but that's all it is, a possibility. You can't prove it to be true, kaizen can't prove it to be false.

The original Mattimer (ie Kaizen's Mattimer) quit the game before this hack was downloaded. He and kaizen can't be held accountable for what happened to the character after he was no longer affiliated with Kaizen or the game at all.

I'm just a student of history. Hacking in a shell is generally carried out quietly, with at most a small group of people not necessarily involved in leadership handling it. The leaders can dictate a strict "No hacks" stance, and the members can simply operate under the principle that what the leads don't know won't hurt them.

I wouldn't say that was very retarded to say. He's right. BlueGartr have a very strong anti-hack stance that kick any member found hacking. However, a few of their members admitted to hacking right before leaving to WoW, and 1-2 people currently in the shell also showed up on the list.

that list only covers the people that bought that one tool, not all tools in existance. That's only a small minority of the people that do hack. Hell, the only one on that list that were in OH is Prophecy, and a few more then just him hacked. Chasym also had a hacked version of FFXIapp that he sent out to anyone that wanted it, and modified the tools every update so that he could stay top of the game.

To be fair, even as an ex-Kaizen member (with no bad blood) myself, I have to admit that his probability argument alone is statistically valid. Not to the extreme of "near certainty", but certainly to the extent of "very real possibility".

Say that in a shell that prides itself on anti-hacking, it's 99% likely that any given member doesn't hack. Now say that 99% shell has 40 members. So the odds that *none* of them hack are 0.99 ^ 40 ~= .6689 = 66.89%. Which in turn means that the odds that at least one member of the shell hacks, is 100% minus that, or 33.11%.

Near certainty no. Valid possibility yes. Such are statistics.

Just because you hack does not mean you don't hack. But your definition, Chasym and Prophecy never hacked. They never got banned, so that obviously means they're clean.
