Honestly, there are some really bad job combos, but tell me honestly what fucking business ppl have to tell you that your job combo sucks and you should change it. Advice is one thing but to spam and flame people or a job combination? If I walked out onto qufim with a war/whm I would seriously get several /tells telling me to change my combo, or that my combo sucks, or that I'm a fucking noob for choosing that combo. If you don't like someone's combo DON'T FUCKING INVITE THEM TO A PARTY!!! But to sit there and flame them because they decided to choose a different sub for rng other than ninja, or subbed samurai prior to 60 is really annoying. It's honestly their fucking choice. Let them play the game the way they want to.
And to say a job needs to have some sort of equipment in order to function correctly is just being stuck up and it's totally fucking annoying to me. When I started this game, I heard nothing about ppl choosing the "wrong" sub, or ppl choosing a bad combo. Now that's all I hear, some asshole bitching cuz they see a combo that they dont like. Get over it, it's their choice. Flame me all you want, because I know people here are going to say "Omfg, what a noob! How dare he disagree with the unwritten rules that I've set aside for every player to follow." Like I said, someone giving advice is one thing, being an asshole is another.
 
Narrel that was very well put. I just don't invite people that have combo's I personally don't aggree with.

I never openly in game-flame anyone. its not nice or fun whatsoever.
Ive seen WAR/WHM solo(farm) somewhat effectively, and what alot people dont realize is that usually when you see a WAR/WHM that person is not looking for group.
If you feel a need to offer friendly advice, try:

"hiya^^ dont take this the wrong way, i just dont wanna see you get flamed :) but alot people here will rag you for that job combo"

If this person responds with a : "fuck you bitch i do what i want kiss my ass"

then this flameboard is the place to make their world a living hell

Yeah, I don't have a problem with job combos that much anymore. Because you know what? Maybe there's somethign they can do with the combo you never thought of. I got accepted into parties as a Rng/whm before (and I was still healing the party *sigh*). I partied with a 15nin/BST and he was a great party member too. I think people just assume you're lazy to level a sub, but screw them..lol. It's true, it's the party's choice. I personally look at the primary job as that's what you mainly need. (One exception... I ALWAYS prefer Paladin/Warrior)
 
I don't think i'd flame you for doing a below average job combo, but I know for a fact that i'd pick a war/mnk over a war/whm. :/ You're right those, some people are mega assholes about it.
 
Yea, it's pretty sad how that works out. =\ Funny thing is some of the less used job/sub combinations are actually very good, just have bad reputations thanks to bad players who don't want to farm for the best stuff and just would look like ass anyway(even with the "correct" job/sub combo).

But yea.. go assholes.. follow a job/sub that 500 other people use, don't even know why you do it, but then bitch at somebody else because they're not mainstream. Gogo American culture. Mainstream or you're an outcast.

RDM/NIN? Lets see... lets pick a high level RDM from these boards who has proven themselves. Take away about 30 of those levels. Put a NIN subjob on them. Would you invite them? :)

I agree with Mithe... America's crap about that sort of stuff. Follow mainstream, or you suck. You don't even have to know WHY you do it... ask RDM why they sub BLM. Ask a random BLM what the benefits of subbing WHM are. I am willing to bet 50% or more of the people couldn't tell you even half the benefits for each of the subjobs.

Even better yet, who the fuck wears those ugly-ass Trucker caps? I know America's the only nation who does this... I want to ask someone why they'd wear them. Ashton Kutcher inspiried bullshit, if you ask me.
 
There were a lot of situations that brought this post on, but the two that instantly come to mind are:
1) In another LS I'm in (another= not BigFun), one of the members chose a job combination that just isn't good; whm/war. (S)he had been told by several members that this wasn't a great combination considering (s)he was elvaan. (S)he was nice about letting people know that this was his/her choice and (s)he didn't care what other people thought. Then, some guy comes into the LS and literally attacks him/her about his/her subjob choice. I mean unrelenting LS flaming. And even when (s)he left he still continued to flame and use the word "noob" constantly. So he had his pearl shattered by someone who shall remain nameless *cough* after being warned twice. It really pissed me off that this guy would actually flip out about someone else's job combination.
2) This happened just yesterday; I was on the ferry (fishing) coming from fighting the Forger for the samurai quest. I thought I would solo this thing (Cohibu helped me so I didn't end up soloing it) so instead of subbing warrior for my paladin, I subbed monk because with counter, shielding, and parrying I can solo very effectively. So I was fishing while not on anon and this lvl 31 taru blm (hereafter referred to as Asshole) comes up and tells me pld/mnk sucks. The conversation proceeded as such:
Narell> Thanks, but I was only using it to solo a quest.
Asshole> But it sucks, why wouldn't you sub warrior?
Narell> Because monks have a higher vitality and the counterattack ability. So I can either block, parry, or counter a lot of the hits.
Asshole> Fucking noobs.
Narell types a /sea and sees this guy is lvl 31 rank 1 for sandoria with a lvl 11 whm sub. Continues fishing without speaking back to Asshole.
Asshole> /sh Narell is a noob!! He thinks pld/mnk is a good combo!
Narell> Why don't you try getting at least to rank 2 and levelling your sub there kiddo?
Asshole> Don't tell me what to do noob!
/shutdown
No blacklist b/c i was too tired.
 
I had a black mage once complain that I a RDM/BLM and not a RDM/WAR. He also complained that I was not meleeing.

The fact that this guy went out of his way to comment is just pathetic. I love how people need to publicly announce what they think is someone's faults. It's a nice way to redirect attention from themselves since they're obviously insecure about their own self. hahaha.... if he was an ok guy, he'd be argue WHY warrior would have more benefits...and at least intelligently debate. I'd label him as a true Noob knowitall.haha

I'm a WAR/WHM too. Just because I'm tanking in Garlaige with lizard armour, people have the nerve to tell me I'm not doing my job too. I know I'm better than any PLD. Damn n00bs....
 
that sucks narell that it had to happen to you. i walk around as a pld/rdm or pld/nin when i solo garbage. who cares. ppl are incompetent anyway.

What I find very annoying is there seems to be separate standards for people. Another Red Mage I know is running around at level 36 with level 20 armor on, has not gotten dispel and is not even trying to get it, but he also has the a reputation among people he has partied with as being a crappy Red Mage. So when they invite him, they do not complain because they know from the get go he is going to be crappy, and are only inviting him so to be a healer.

I get complaints for the simplest of things. I was leveling my White Mage and used Curega because I did not feel like Casting Cure II, Cure, and Cure on three people. I was going to have to rest anyways, so it really was not going to slow things down very much (But yes it was not effective MP usage), but because I have shown that I am a decent player, they expect that of me at all times. I have spent so much time being stuck at level 30 getting dispel, my latest equipment, farming that now people are complaining that I need to start leveling again because they want me in there parties, but only a small hand full of them bother to help me get the stuff I need.

And why is it I get the most complaints from Black Mages, of all the Jobs. Red Mage at my level as very little influence on their job. I’ll miss recasting Gravity and the Melee’s won’t complain, but sure enough Black Mage right after the battle, “You need to recast your enfeebles the moment it wears off.” (But he doesn’t see a problem flooding my screen with “I’ll set you on Fire Baby").

*snickers* This Thread is entertaining. On a Personal Note, I play Sum/Blm, not WHM, because I feel as a Summoner I should be summoning, there have been Discussions, etc but you will NEVER make me LIKE Smn/Whm. And when I used to play Summoner, I was all about the Fun. As a Blm I was about Nuking, and being effective.
The Point I'm trying to make is this: Fun is very Subjective. Maybe the Rdm/War just wanted to goof off for one Night, ya know, Melee with their RDM for once ?

Actually Shit like this hinders the progress of the game. The whole point of a game is to have fun and you calling people stupid hinders the progress of having a great time. You don't have to invite Narell to your parties so what the hell is your problem? I"ve played with summoners at level 37 that don't have all the avatars and had a great time! I've played with RDM/BLMs, Hell my first 30 levels of this game were spent as a RDM/MNK and I had a bitchin time Spamming Boost and beating up bad things. I"m glad I did it and still laugh at it.

Chill out and play the game the way you want but don't try to force your opinions on others unless your willing to pay their 12.95 every month. You have no right.
 
I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this thread.

Yes, it's your money. And yes, you have the right to "do whatever the hell you want". But unfortunately I think many of you completely misunderstand the point of FFXI. It's to WORK TOGETHER. You're supposed to put the needs of the party above the needs of yourself. If you want to disagree with me, I'm sorry, but you're just 100% completely, totally incorrect.

This is why people level up their subjobs, and appropriate subjobs, and farm for hours on end to get the appropriate food and equipment. So that when they are in a party they can give their maximum. You're running around as a whm/mnk so you can go nuts with your club because you think it's the most fun thing possible.

This is not to say you are a bad person, or some sort of asshole. This is to say, PLAY ANOTHER GAME. If you want to have fun by playing for yourself, as a single entity, play Asheron's Call. Play a MMORPG where you're about soloing and customizing and doing things your way. FFXI IS NOT ABOUT DOING WHAT YOU THINK IS THE MOST FUN THING POSSIBLE. I can't stress this enough. I came to this realization many many months ago, you all should too. When I first realized this, I thought about leaving the game, but I decided if I tried to embrace it I might actually enjoy it, and I did. But you people with the attitude that it's all about playing for your own personal benefit, are, I'm sorry, ruining our reputation as a player base to the Japanese. This is their game, and the way the designed it is so that you must work together to achieve difficult tasks. You must help other people, not yourself, and make friends, so that you can get your own goals accomplished at some point. If you like it, great, do what a great of us have done and adapt to this game as it's intended. If you will never enjoy playing the game for the benefit of others. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, JUST QUIT.

I expect many to vehemently disagree with me. I expect to be flamed and told that I have no right to tell people how to play, and to tell them they should quit. But this is just what I honestly believe. Learn to work well with others >> that means, get the appropriate equipment to play your job as intended, and play your job as intended. This is not a concept that is easy for many to wrap their heads around. People who are strong induvidualists will be outraged by what I am saying. But this is just... the god-honest truth about how FFXI was intended to be played.
