Flaming people for their gaming choices just makes them hate you. This is especially true if they aren't in your pt and your just getting your daily kicks from flaming complete strangers. They aren't going to respond to your misplaced anger by seeing the error in their ways and becoming the cookie-cutter you think you're forced to be. They'll simply think you're an ass, and for the most part, in the context of this thread, such a person would be. You certainly aren't helping your in-game reputation. You aren't hurting theirs. In fact, if I had a choice between someone who's trying something different, and someone who flames random strangers for no important reason, I'd rather party with the nonconformist. My EXP might not come in as fast, but what's to say the unusually angry fellow won't find a flaw in my gameplay as well? Anyone willing to stop what they're doing to berate an innocent passerby who's just going about his own business is even worse for the FF community than the gimpy player he flames. After all, it's been said that if you aren't willing to work to your fullest for the team, than FFXI isn't the game for you. I would add that if you aren't willing to act in a socially respectable manner, than FFXI isn't the game for you either. FFXI is more than just getting chain 6. It's about being social also.

"Look! That old man with alchemier(sp) is driving on the wrong side of the road!"
"Don't worry hes just trying to be different"

It's not a direct qoute but somone from another board I go to said that once when discussing ppl who want to be different in job combos etc.

Your last post just reminded me of that. ^^

In the context of this thread, that old man wouldn't even be driving. He'd be minding his own business watching tv with his friends and family. In this thread, some random punk on the street would walk up to his door and start ranting and cursing at him because some other old man with brain senility had driven on the wrong side of the road. This old man hasn't hurt anyone, and neither has the player off minding his own business on the recieving end of a rant from a self-righteous elitist with a chip on his shoulder. This thread isn't about gimps in your party. It's about gimps that aren't in your party, and why you shouldn't stop what you're doing and curse them out for not being up to par.

oooo

Ok I've been blind to what you were all really talking about. I don't mind if you're gimped. just don't be in my party. Yeah I don't stop random people whoa re gimped and yell at them for no reason. If somone gets invited to a pt I'm in who has some strange job combo or really wack equip I will usually say somthing to them in /tell but I don't ever insult them.

I hope double posts aren't frowned upon. I just thought of something else and I can't edit it into my post. Anyway. The way I see it, you shouldn't treat a player in XI any different than you would treat a person in real life. If a coworker wasn't pulling his weight, you could complain to your boss, and the coworker would get fired. This is like complaining to a party leader to get a gimpy player booted. It's perfectly fine.

However, if you come across a drunken, homeless bum on the street (kinda like gimps in FFXI), you don't stop and curse at him and berate him for his lifestyle choices. You probably just walk on by. You might have thoughts of contempt because he's not pulling his own weight, but as long as he minds his own business and doesn't bother you personally, you don't go picking fights.

This is what I thought the point of the thread was. It's not the lousy coworker. It's a random bum in the street. You have no reason to take action, because he's not dragging you down personally. If you really want to make a gimp feel bad, and I guess a lot of people do, wait till they're in your party. Then you'll at least have some superficial justification for being overly unpleasant.

LOL, man this is aswome......i cant wait to hear the shit thats comin my way when ppl find out im only takin my war, and not nin or pld beacuse "war cant tank post 40's"

riiiiiight

You don't usually tank post40 though. You mainly become a DD post37. You can still somewhat tank though but most of the time it's war/nin.
