A thief's knife serves more than three purposes for us. Any single reason would not be enough to override my disgust of putting one person on a pedestal, as many have claimed that I'm trying to do. Look at your own coin beggars in your shells asking to buy coins at 5k a piece if you want to see people put on pedestals. Look to your relic weapon upgrade hopefuls. You're pumping 500 million gil into them while calling 60 million gil a pedestal? I don't think so, even if I WOULD stand taller on that small elevation than they ever would with a basically freebie begged relic weapon.
First and foremost it increases treasure hunter. If it increases the drop rate to any extent it is doing more than any stat ever does in the XP world. This isn't the XP world where your strength+1 nets you 30 seconds over a 3 hour session. That is not significant gain. We're talking about drops. Whole drops. Whole armors. Whole coins. I was the FIRST person to remind the shell that a thief's knife does almost nothing. I am the first person to never credit a thief-knife wielder for the drop success of the run. But it increases the rate of drops, period, and that is 75% of what dynamis is. Not minuscule +1'ing yourself to get the mob dead 3 seconds sooner every 10 fights. If at the end of 8 months it's the difference between a measly 1 bard af and 22 coins, that's fine by me. Alone that would not merit a purchase, but that's not the only reason to buy a thief's knife.
Second, it is an investment. When coins shot up to 40k per, I had no idea what was causing it but I knew that we were primed to take advantage of it. Keep in mind that at any time, I can reconvert and regain almost every coin we've ever made, because I've been selling them at market price. That means I can rebuy them at market price. I do take a loss because I usually give 1k per coin discount, and that's where the knife comes in. It appreciates in value. We will be able to sell it for more than we bought it for, and in doing so, mitigating any gil loss in gil-coin conversion. In the future when we decide what to REALLY do with shell assets, that knife can be made into anything we want it to be. Coins. Gil. Other items. The knife doesn't cost anything to us in the end. There is no penalty. If I am going to agree to upgrade a relic weapon, it will not be more than two or three of them. But I MAY agree to that if the shell wants it. However, I'm not going to choose someone now. I want to know where allegiance lies. I gave two people twenty million gil gifts under the pretense of upgrading and hosting, and now they're gone. They took their cookies and ran. One bought a speed belt with their reward for treachery. That will not happen again. The gil will stay with me fully accounted for on our forums in an accounting system. I did the books for a highschool bank. Was responsible for the accounting of 3 million US dollars every day. I can keep track of a MMO shell's assets just fine.
Third, as alluded to earlier, it stalls a decision. You do not make decisions about a shell based on its building phase. You make decisions about a shell based on its future--its maintenance phase. Going concern is what I am in charge of securing. We are growing. We are just now getting to maintenance phase where everything stabilizes. I cannot make any decisions regarding what to do with the shell's assets, or better yet I cannot allow the shell to act on what they want regarding shell assets, until we know exactly who our recipients are and should be. When the shell gets locked and we have 50 of the same people every week, THEN I will let the shell decide what to do with the assets because I will be certain there are no goldiggers left in us. But not now. We're growing. It's time to build, not time to pay dividends. When the shell is ready, everything it has ever made will be there for it to use how it wants. I did intend the shell to pay back to everyone. However, I gave up absolution very quickly into this shell's life. Right now we must decide what to do with the assets we generate, and right now we are not ready to make that decision. A thief's knife is something to seal the end of an era with.
I have 52 million gil sitting in my inventory. 50 of that is invictus'. It is no secret to any of our members. I wanted to shut it down at 10 million gil and start stocking coins, but members wanted the knife. So they shall have the knife if it does not do one iota of harm to us. And it doesn't. There is no drawback. We need to grow and age before we reward. We need something to do with assets while we decide what to do with assets. And we need more drops.
This isn't my thief's knife. If I had one reason to buy it, it's because the shell wants it. Number two is strictly financial. I need something to do with the assets that we've generated by selling coins for 40-50k a pop. I didn't know if these prices would stay that high, so I converted to gil. If they depreciate, we win. If they shoot higher, we lose. If they stay at 40k nothing changes. For your sake and ours, I hope that coins start going down in prices. It would only make us more powerful now that the time for selling coins may or may not be over, depending on what the shell decides.
Not that I have to defend a single thing to the likes of you people. Even if others try, they will fail. I read this thread backwards, and it was one of the more encouraging ones to read even if your end is still as pathetic as it ever has been in the history of my breeding your kind. It's not in you to understand and comprehend. You talk of my net worth as if I ever said that how much gil I have is a fraction of what I'm gauging. Your net worth is your gil, armor, and your lack of responsibility in this life. You're free for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. It's no wonder you laugh at how much gil I have when I'm free 8 hours a week period. My net worth is in what I am not only capable of doing, but what I AM doing. You can talk all you want, but in the end I wield more power because of what I started than you ever can with your HQ society teatimes and elitism. I do more in 8 hours than you have all month. You think you can do the same? You're not doing the same, so I suggest you climb the mountain or stop bragging about how you could and might, acting like what I do is nothing. What I do makes you look pathetic, and you sit there at your computer as an average HQ nobody in the server wondering how the heck I don't respect you because of how hard you slave in the game to earn your barbie dresses. I created a machine beyond your or my ability that is worth more than all of you beggars put together.
That it's not mine makes no difference. You are a gimp compared to it, and it is on my side.
