4Kids Entertainment now currently being delisted from the NY Stock Exchange.

I didn't put my input on that part, but again I think they were necessary. As TG and DW said, it's called 4Kids, not 4Adults. Why have a man with breast in a network for kids? Why point a gun at someone's head in a network for kids? And while the blackface is offensive, but I don't really care, they should avoid doing that too. At least the epilepsy one was an accident.

Ha! It's about time something like this happens to 4Kids. :D

Same here, give me any bullshit reason 4kids is worth a damn, I wont be hearin' it. They needa go and this proves it.

Cause leaving a black dude with huge red lips like that would totally not offend anyone in our country... im totally with you there.

You can never make everyone happy, but im sure they'd rather piss off some otakus who get mad about shit changing then having the NAACP come knocking at their door or something else along those lines. And like some little 5-10 year old kids are gonna give a fuck either way. Its a cartoon to them, they probably don't even know what anime is. I sure as shit didn't know DBZ or Pokemon were 'anime' till much later on after i stopped watching them.

Also if the original form is such a big deal, get fan subs or buy directly. Idk how you people can stand to listen to the shitty English voice overs anyway.

In response to all the "it's called 4kids for a reason" kinda posts....

Then why take animes that weren't made FOR KIDS in the first place and then feel like you should edit (butcher) them for stupid kids? I mean, sure Japan lets their kids watch the stuff even if it wasn't their primary audience, but they also don't have anal retentive annoying ass parents that get on a high horse and don't think rationally at all.

And I still don't get why people get offended by that shit, all the characters in one piece look stupid as hell and are proportioned like they aren't even real... who gives a shit about that black kid with big lips? Stop assuming racism (though the Japanese are pretty racist) when you can't prove it is. Our country is getting too fucking PC

All in all, I'm for their demise -_-

At least someone else is reasonable in this thread...

In response to "why take animes that weren't meant FOR KIDS" bullshit:

Japanese culture isn't American culture, no matter how much you fucking otaku wannabes hope and pray it will be someday.

Anime created for Japanese children needs a type of localization for other audiences.

If it's such a damn impedance on your life, do what RaidrX said and go buy a fansub of an unedited anime, or be ultrahardcore and import the original version from Japan.

You people make it sound like 4Kids tried to take Dirty Pair Flash and turn it into a kids' show.

Tristam you seriously are on the losing side of this battle and apparently don't know it yet.

You can sound and be as intelligent as you like with your responses, it still won't save 4Kids from being horrible.

I'm glad they're going under.. or at the very least, not doing so well financially. Who cares if a character has "black face", that is the way it was originally animated and intended. Hell 4Kids completely altered dialogue, characters and plot devices in the anime's they worked on. If people are offended by what they see, well hey.. here's a few novel ideas: Don't fucking watch it. Change the channel. Watch something else.

It's comparable to Pioneer's run of Dragon Ball Z. We can't show people getting killed or oh no, when the bad guys die they don't go to hell, they go to the other world/dimension. Let's not show the cigarettes or the beers because oh no this is a kids show. And while we're at it lets not show people actually getting hit, we gotta edit that out it's just too brutal for the kiddies.

Wrong, most anime isn't for children. Sure you do have some that are geared towards the younger audience but most animes deal with adult themes, relationships, violence and gore that simply isn't aimed at children to watch much less understand.

...and I don't know the power of the Dark Side, either.

Clearly you don't understand my stance. I'm not trying to win an argument against anyone, really. I just fail to see why it's "woohoo! A company that helped usher in the anime world to the United States is failing! COOKIES ALL AROUND!"

I can see the irritation over anime getting edited but I agree with why they did some of it. Most kids probably wouldn't care or know about the blackface stuff but what if one day in school they're drawing a picture of said character and their African American teacher sees it? The kid would most probably not mean any harm but it could misinterpreted by the teacher or anyone else who sees that artwork. I'm more irritated with DiC editing out some parts of Sailor Moon but then again it's American target audience was kids too. Like mentioned before I could watch fansubs or the original Japanese version with subtitles, or even read the manga to get the full story. What about Dragon Ball getting edited by FUNimation Entertainment to cover up Goku's naked body with swim trunks? One thing that any anime fan has to accept and will have to accept as long as their are dubs is that there will be some changes when it gets translated especially if it's target audience is changed. Don't like it? Well, it sucks but deal with it by getting the full story with other means or urge the company or some of the other anime dubbing companies to make a version closer to the original. You'll probably have better luck from the fansubs.

I don't even personally consider Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! as anime due to how they've pretty much been turned into children's programing/money makers. Sure, they are actually anime. Just crappy animes. The only thing they perhaps did was make anime popular with kids to some extent. All they really did though was get kids hooked on Pokemon merchandise and Yu-Gi-Oh! merchandise.

Once upon a time I actually enjoyed the Pokemon anime because it was an interesting view on Pokemon since Pokemon itself was still fairly new and I was still enjoying Pokemon Red on my GameBoy Pocket. But then it's popularity skyrocketed to plain silly proportions. Pokemon should have never had more than 2 movies, and the show should have died off years ago. But no, it's still trolling on with it's same old formula. I kinda wonder just how many god damn leagues they will create before they run out of ideas.

Dragon Ball Z was actually the first anime to really become a popular hit in the United States, open up people to what anime was and that was way before Pokemon was created. It's a shame Pioneer screwed with it so much and no one was complaining at the time because quite frankly they didn't know better. Thankfully Funimation started, picked up DBZ and ran with it, and did a darn good job. They used to release 2 different versions of the show. Basically one edited for television and one uncensored for the real fans.

There were companies well before 4kids that ushered anime into the world fine :\ well before 4kids started importing anime at least. I know they were founded in 1970 but I can't recall them importing anime until the 90s. Could be wrong. But other companies had brought anime into the US before they did iirc. Sure they helped bring anime into our side, but they didn't bring good anime imo so I don't care. I'm sure others might, but I don't. And I never liked how much they butchered anime that was at least somewhat decent and made it horrible. oh well

Now that you've posted a diatribe of Elemmiric proportions, let's separate the fact and opinion.

Fact:

There were companies well before 4kids that ushered anime into the world fine :\ well before 4kids started importing anime at least. I know they were founded in 1970 but I can't recall them importing anime until the 90s. Could be wrong. But other companies had brought anime into the US before they did iirc.

Opinion:

Honestly, I mostly just feel indifferent about the collapse of 4kids. I don't have any particular sentimental attachment to any anime distribution company, when you get right down to it, since pretty much all of them have failed, or will fail in the future, unless they come to accept that their business model in inherently flawed.

My only sentimentality towards 4Kids is the fact that they made the first Pokémon movie happen in the US. Mewtwo ftw, God Bless America.

I know 4Kids had nothing to do with it... but I would like to say: What was done to Cardcaptor Sakura was just plain awful. That series really just shouldn't have been adapted for American kids.

If people are offended by what they see, well hey.. here's a few novel ideas: Don't fucking watch it. Change the channel. Watch something else.

Except for that we live in america and people will bitch about ANYTHING just to be able to bitch and maybe make a dollar by suing someone. Also on that note, you could do the same by not watching the 'abominations' 4kids gives us.

You guys have to realize and understand that anime is not POPULAR in the US, and probably never will be. It is not the cultural norm for people over the age of 12-13ish to watch cartoons. And yes, to probably over 75% of americans, if not more, anime == cartoons. I'm sure a lot of you wouldn't agree with it, and neither would I to be honest, but that doesn't change the fact that the majority of people do. So because of that, the only way for a company (which omg 4kids is, they like to make the money) to be profitable by bringing anime to the US would be to market it towards CHILDREN and try not to piss the majority of people off (which would not include anime fans). Regardless of if you think pokemon and or yugioh were shitty animes, they were extremely popular and made a ton of fucking money. And at the end of the day, thats all companies like 4kids cares about, along side not getting their asses sued.

*cough*still are*cough*

That and they're anime with a target audience of, *gasp*, children.

It's this weird thing I see in some anime fans; the idea that somehow all anime is intended for adults.

No, sorry. If you're 20 years old and watching Pokemon, it really is the same thing as watching one of Cartoon Network's fine selection of children's programming.

Now, you can complain that the Japanese have a different idea of what is acceptable in programming intended for children, and complain that we're not quite as open-minded about some things. But, at the same time, you have to accept that there are a different set of cultural values involved, and that it doesn't make you right.

And for the love of god, it certainly doesn't make the Japanese culturally superior in some fashion.

what makes them culturally superior is the vending machines with "guaranteed used" ladies undergarments.
