I have been saving money for a long long time to get elemental torque, i've done BCNM's, i've tried farming, i've spent days and days mining oldton, ifrits cauldron, even newton moval and i finally got together 1million gil. the AH prices are 1mil tops.

WELL GUESS WHAT? I BID 1 MILLION AND I GOT NO FUCKING TORQUE. I BID 1,140,000 AND I GOT NO FUCKING TORQUE. FUCK YOU GODDAMN ASS FUCKING GODDAMN QUEER FUCKING CUM GUZZLING CRACDK WHORE SPAWNED SHIT STAIN OF A HUMAN BEING WHO PUT ELEMENTAL TORQUE UP FOR MORE THAN 1.14 MILLION GIL FUCK YOU.

To whoever put the elemental torque up for that go fuck yourself, then your father then go off and die in a miserable corner you disgusting excuse for a human being.

Heh, mexi had been trying to get a Super ribbon for weeks, and there's finally one up at the AH. The history is all 500k - 550k, and you couldn't even buy it for 850k.

Greedy pricks who put stuff way above market value just because there's no others up should die in a fire. Those are the ones that are causing all the inflation and fucking up the econmy, the people who are overcutting on rare items. I'm willing to bet they're some of the people who bitch the loudest about stuff being overpriced too, fuckin' morons.

Well, I've kinda got mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I don't think people should jack up prices that much. On the other hand, some inflation can be needed. If people keep buying the item as soon as it's up for sale, chances are it needs to go up a bit, as the supply can't meet the demand.

So, I'm in favor of boosting up an item a few k if it always sells fast and there's none on the market because they sell within a few moments of being put up for sale. But huge price jacks like that shouldn't happen.

Heh, talk to me when you need something ok? I'll jack it up a few K so it sells faster.

Heh, nothing compares to the jump in Raise 3 before SE made new ways to get it. Jumping up 1 mil in under 2 weeks, total bullshit.

It was upwards of 10 mil on some servers... Things are bad here... alot worse elsewhere...

try the jump in price for the Nokizaru Hakama, over the course of a week they jumped from 500k to 2mil

I think it happened with her sniper rings and Hauby =P She's right though, inflation happens because the economy does support it, don't be too mad at price jackers, the underlying root of the "out of control" inflation is people buying gil, and to a certain extent overpopulation.

It's not like it's what I do for a living but I have jacked up the prices to certain items, the only time I ever do this, is when I see a clear potential (else risk losing AH tranfer fees). You may see it as greed, and it really is, but I owe nothing to the person buying my item, I don't owe them the favor of selling for last sale price when I know I can easily sell for more. It's life and you really just have to deal with it, I've watched certain prized Items I've wanted slowly get more and more out of reach, one day it's 1million, by the time I can afford it's 2, by the time I have 2, it's at a price I could never hope to afford.

I wonder what negative responses I'll get =O

You misunderstand. I didn't mean that selling an item for more made it sell faster, rather that it made it sell slower. When an item is selling -too- fast, however, it needs to go up in price.

Let's look at it from a reverse persective. Let's say that SE made it impossible to sell an empy hairpin for over 500k (and I mean completely impossible, not just impossible to sell at the AH for over 500k - impossible, I know, but this is hypothetical). So, all the AH sales are for 500k. However, there's a heck of a lot of people that want it for that much, and they all have the money. And there's more people that want to buy it than there are hairpins being made. So as soon as one goes up, one of the people camping the AH buys it right away. And people might have to wait weeks, maybe months, to buy one - not because they can't afford it, but because there aren't enough for everyone to go around.

It's kind of like all those super-popular Christmas toys you wanna buy for your kid at the last minute. You go everywhere trying to find one, and can't because hey, there's not enough to go around.

So, you're desperate for one. You're frustrated with the system, because even though you can easily afford the item, you can't find one for sale anywhere. So you're thinking that maybe, you'd want to see if anyone would sell to you for a little more (yeah, I know, I just said you can't - it's my example, I can do this stuff :P ). You try to buy it for 550k, and find a seller. Someone else sees that, though, or hears about it, and suddenly everyone wants 550k. And it's the new price. But after a bit, the same problem crops up - there's not enough items to go around to everyone that can afford it. So, the price creeps up a little bit more. And the cycle continues until the limited supply of hairpins is enough to meet the demand.

That's why item prices going up can be a good thing. However, that's for just one item. The inflation that's hitting every item is a bad thing, though.

But that's a really unrelated topic that goes into SE's changing of several money-making things.

Armi: Baja was talking about Raise 3 before the patch that added new ways to get it (specifically, some of the ENMs). The price jumped up to over 1 mil before that patch came out, but since then it's gone down a bit.

Dave: Actually, gilbuyers don't hurt the economy much. It's the gilsellers that get money from NPCs to sell to the buyers that are the real problem. The gilsellers that get money from other players (by selling items on the AH) just move money from player to player.

And I managed to get my hauby and one of my snipers when they were at a low point. They've since gone up and made me richer (at least, I would be if I sold them).

Actually, I think the problem is due to the over-chargers and the gil buyers together. The over-chargers just jack up the price, and while your hypothetical might happen sometimes; you have to admit, most of the time it's just because they're greedy bastards.

The gil buyers, though are the other part of the problem. With their seemingly infinite funds, they can buy anything they want, regardless of the price, so they don't care about the people over-charging on the items. Why should they care? The money to buy whatever they want is just a couple clicks away at ige.

The only people getting shafted are the ones who work for their money, since we have an idea as to the value of gil, whereas the gilbuyers don't know shit about real value, since they're shortcutting as much as they can.

The gil sellers don't do a lot of overcharging for the items they farm, if they even sell them at the AH. The problem with them is mainly the underhanded tactics they employ to get those items and the fact that they try to monopolize the mobs they're farming.

They do seth, the reason: If I have 2million gil on me, and I want to buy an item that sells for 1.5m, and I bid up to 1.55m and it doesn't sell, I won't keep upping the price. Because I can't easily plop up another 100k out of thin air, if I do get the item, I'm 100k less than I would be, and making it back could take hours/days of work.

Now lets say I just spent like $80 buying 2million gil, my item won't sell for 1.5m, so I bid 1.6, now I'm down to 400k right? Well toss in another $40 and boom I'm up to 1.4million.

Anyone who has enough money for a) A computer, b) internet access, c) game with monthly fee, should have the resources to "throw away" $100 and not be significantly hurt by it. This is the average FFXI player (who isn't supported by their parents =D ), there are probably tons of people who are above average too, who are moderatly wealthy, or even outright rich in the real world. So an argument such as "who'd be stupid enough to spend that much RL money on gil" may not apply.

Ah, yes, forgot about that problem with buying gil... I was focusing on the main "big picture" and didn't look at individual problems like that...

And I know my situation doesn't happen (the sellers act too fast for it to actually happen that way), but it's verly likely that something like that would happen if no one raised prices on items.

Dude, just chill and wait for a weekend when people do the DoR BC en masse. Prices will come back down. Where were you when I couldn't sell mine for 800k? 8)

I have some farming to do... {fun} 1.2m... bleh ><

Gilbuyers are part of the process that hurts the economy, yet they're not hurting the economy?
