A wise RNG got to thinking...

Can someone explain to me about why Kirin is so "godly" (pun intended) that he can't be just plain tanked that he needs to be kited? I'm asking out of request for knowledge on the subject. I'm only level 60 so I have yet to experience any of this.
He likes to cast things like Stonega 4 and Stone 5. They tend to leave a mark on your hp. Plus, if you fight him on earthsday, he has massive hp regen, along with those spells being stronger.

Also constant spamming of WSs and he resists Stun 3/4 of the time

Kirin cannot be stunned and he likes to use very powerful magic that can and will one-shot anybody within range.

Stonega IV, Stone V, Quake, Great Whirlwind, Flame Breath, Death Hold, Tail Smash and Astral Flow (only does this once thank god)

Also, consider how much hate you acumulate over a 40-60 minute period. It's not uncommon to see him reach over and one-shot a mage for what seemed to be no reason at all.

So now Kirin = Vrtra as far as difficulty? Sounds about right for a god if you ask me.

Yeah, but people can and do log out on him from time to time to clear their hate. Also, having the whm's keep up barstonra helps a lot with those spells.

This also makes Vrtra even harder.... so its not same heh

Vrta is a lot harder than kirin. Kirin gets killed all the time, but Vrta is very rarely if ever killed on our server.

You know what I find funny? I came to the boards and read all the stuff about the ranger nerf. There are several higher-lvl rangers I know and 80% of them when I asked them about the nerf said yes the dmg is lower but its not as bad as everyone is saying. Yes, dmg was gimped but its not all that bad. I am not to end-game stuff yet so I dont know how much that was gimped but from what I understand Ranger can "STILL" reign supreme among melee. I just think its funny how I come to the board and rangers say thier life is over but I ask rangers I know in-game and they don't have that opinion at all about it.

they're not in god shells or haven't done god fights under the new format, apparently.

I'm willing to bet that SE will come in and fix Kirin, then again, maybe they won't. HE'S A FUCKING GOD! He's not supposed to be easy to kill.

this sounds like a comment from someone who knows NOTHING about gods, please, dont assume to be the authority on gods when you havnet done them.

gods are supposed to be hard, sure, yeah, sorta, if you don't know the strategies, jobs, and what it takes... they are pretty easy with good players and good equipment. but I have heard of Kirin wiped out LS's before w/o the ranger nerf. My God shell that was spoken of earlier in the thread, could kill Kirin in about an hour, which isn't short, nor long really.... We fought him for 3 hours yesterday and got him to 60%, can you not see where that is a problem? lol..

I do agree they could fix Kirin's regen or something to help make him a little easier, though.

I am sorry orestes, foo, and all of my RNG friends who are in my LS that posted in the thread already, made me sad last night to see that happen.... foo, you spoke very well, i agree with you totally.

Yeh the people I talked to were talking about exp situations. I venture to say they havent done any gods post patch at that moment in time, after reading Zoo's post. So end game is the reason everyone is mad? I was understanding that most of the rangers posting were upset with the overal nerf not just how much they got nerfed on Gods. At least thats how it seemed when I posted the original post you quoted.

Barstonra stopping stonega IV or stone V is like a slice of bread stopping a bullet. Last I heard a very good NA shell took 5 hours to beat Kirin. Sorry but I don't want to fight 1 mob for 5 hours.

I'm kinda jumping into this late but I have something that needs to be said that Skaw kinda highlighted:

Melee jobs in general are not balanced for endgame content.

And I don't mean exp parties, farming, weak shit. I'm talking about the real bosses that FFXI has to offer. The only difference now is that instead of one job being exclusively overpowered versus said content, all melee jobs are pretty damn gimped against them (and Chi Blast does not make up for a melee job not being able to attack, imo). This creates a problem though.

Endgame content was designed for pre-nerf Ranger damage. It has not been adjusted for post-nerf Ranger damage. No boss monster should require more than 20% of your alliance to be a certain job. However, if SE brought every other melee/damage dealing job to par with pre-nerf Ranger damage, endgame content would be WAY too easy.

The solution? Now it's up to Square to rebalance melee damage in general vs HNM; TP gain suicide, accuracy & damage, kiting necessity. The only question that remains is, will they?

To be quiet frank I bet they didn't even think about it. Had they done so they probably would have left RNG alone as this "Solution" requires a little work in a non fun manner. What they should have done is make Sea drops more mage related and bosses more prone to being whooped by melees and weaker against RA. Thus lessening the work they already have but probably wont do for another 6 months...

it only been a week since the update im sure this is a trial stage and im sure they will make some ajustments but a rng up close in battle and a rng doing over 1000 dmg is long gone. in time things will balance out though and new style will emerge.

I had never heard of being further away meant less accuracy before, so that's news to me other than people mentioning it in these threads. Rng gets and insane amount of racc though, so I find it very hard to believe that they'd suffer from horrible accuracy at such a distance.

Also, I didn't see a severe nerf in terms of damage in the thread that was posted about the testing. He suffered a small drop in damage, less than 10 from the sweet spot, that's hardly a reason to say rng's are useless.

i used to slug/sidewinder for 1000+ dmg and 2hr EES for 500+ dmg... now slug/sidewinder hits for 300-500 range and 2hr EES is random PLUS missing a 2hr. i cried when i missed 2 EES'... while looking at a MNK Chi Blast for 1000+ and a SAM doing Kasha for 700-800+ dmg...

WHERE is the BALANCE in that?

Was listening to Neo tell me about their Kirin fight after the rng nerf. 40 mins into the fight and kirin is still at 80%. Yep, things are going to take much much longer now. :x

it took us a VERY LONG time to kill Kirin... we didnt even have enough time to do our normal sked 2+ kirin fights...

Remember for all those bitches about ammo and Hawkers +1 most melees that are owning with high DD have 3-5 million dollar body pieces .5 million dollar weapons, Sniper rings(climbing to 1 million each very quickly as of yesterday) so on and so forth. For a standard melee DD to out DD a RNG even with the change will cost just as much if not more than a RNG. Being a primo Damage dealer isn't cheap no matter what job you pick. I am still convinced RNG is the best DOT melee in a standard exp party setup.

at least you can sell back all that expensive gear... but for ammo... once you shoot it, it's gone for good. but if SE made some bullshit "infinity ammo" then... i'd keep playing RNG no matter how gimp my dmg is, LMAO...
