The stupid-ass names are cringe-worthy, yes, but far more bothersome to me is the tendency to abbreviate one-syllable, three-letter words.
Few people pause to reflect on the fact that when we communicate through text, you SOUND like what you WRITE. If the words you've just typed look like they were just banged out randomly by a retarded 3-year-old on crack, then:
THAT.
IS.
WHAT.
YOU.
WILL.
SOUND.
LIKE.
"but l0l it seyff time 4 me u nazi!!!11"
If you don't have enough respect for me to invest the time in taking the extra 0.3 seconds to type out the other two letters of "you," I'm certainly not going to invest the time necessary to translate your lazy-ass Internet idiot-speak cypher back into English, so I can understand it.
I honestly believe that in the case of people that are obscenely addicted to the moron-talk (think Blazn and Hellstorm), it takes most normal people at least twice as much time to INTERPRET what they're trying to say as they save from cutting out every vowel in sight.
If I ever run a linkshell, one of the rules (probably the first) will be that you'll have to pass a test to demonstrate a minimum level of coherency before you get a pearl. This rule could be relaxed for people that speak English as a second language, of course, but repeated use of things like "ur" and "ne1" in a non-joking, non-mocking manner would result in a broken pearl.
This is probably why any such shell would be perpetually empty, except for me. Ah, well ... I can dream.
