Aion- discuss

i just dont get the stupid weekend testing. why not just open the gates up??? try making a new char right now to level. its just one huge clusterfuck of everyone killing the same mobs. it takes forever to quest sometimes because everyone is doing the same quest as you.

when the game comes out i almost want to wait a few weeks to start playing so that i could quest at a normal pace and not be forced to fight for the same 5 pops.

I don't think the clusterfuck phenomenon will be a huge thing if they start retail off with 12 servers. Obviously it's an issue now thanks to the 2 initial server count.

I feel ya bro. I hate the pressure on having to squeeze as much in a short period of time because it kinda takes the fun out of some things. I forced myself to step away for an hour or two (and didn't lose sleep time in the process) and the excitement/drive came back super fast.

I hope for next closed beta, they still retain the level 25 cap so that pressure is kinda alleviated by putting players in the quasi "max" level state of enjoying/testing other parts of the game instead of the grinding. I still want to get more blue+ equipment for my character and finish all the pending quests damnit!

I am hearing that the level cap for beta 5 will in fact remain at 25. A good move imo, as I'll be able to hit the Abyss some more and continue to pound away at some crafting.

I believe those who preordered also get a week head start before everyone else right? So with that and everyone being spread out over more servers it should be fine.

Good point Seraa! "Unfortunately" it's a week headstart for EU (I believe they start a tad later than us) and only 2 days for NA. That still should be enough to alleviate the noob congestion though.

It was great battling side by side with Undercon peeps in the abyss bro. One of your Undercon glads was constantly being watched by various <SINISTER> Asmo's.. lol he kept on getting Templar pulled but I had my Heal III stuck on your boy so he could survive the pain that came with that pull. I forgot his f'n name though..

I didn't enjoy the beta all that much. If anything, it convinced me not to buy the game. I don't expect new and magnificent wonders when it comes to quests, but could they at least bother to make the monsters different? I started out slaughtering birds as Elyos. I get to 10 and sprout awesome wings and oh hey, I have another quest to kill more of those dinky little birds. I try out Asmo and what do you know, it's more of those same birds! Forget Balaur, Airons are the real threat to Atreia!

The one time I got a quest that wasn't the same old kill/collect ten of these it was a quest to escort a cute little piggy back to town. Okay cool, let's go. Oh wait, except your party can't complete it all at once. Each person has to do the quest separately. Even if there is a way to trigger it as a group quest so we can all get credit, it wasn't very apparent and needs to be fixed regardless.

Also, why on earth do they give you wings, but not let you fly? You ascent to a wondrous, immortal Daeva or whatever, get one quest to fly around and kill 3 mobs that don't even fight back, and that was it. I was playing as melee so I didn't expect too much, but I couldn't even fly from the starting Verteron town to the next quest hub. It's not like I was trying to fly over the mountains (which I tried first and was also disappointed about), I just wanted to hover above the given path through the woods. But nope, no flying allowed. I don't have any problems with the flying timer as long as the time increases by level, but you can't even fly at all in the main cities. It's ridiculous.

Were you in Channel 1 the whole time? I switched around and found at least three other channels that were fairly empty. Made a few quests a lot easier.

The lore behind flying involves Daeva's needing the presence of Aether to actually remain in flight. Many zones are devoid of Aether for various reasons-- the split of the world, etc. Thus, you are not able to fly everywhere.

I do agree that many of the quests are kind of blah though.

These quests are great. I really can't complain. I played other korean mmo's and while the collection quests started out collecting small numbers it eventually grew to extremely tedious and time consuming amounts of items.

As long as I played Aion, there wasn't anything that exceeded the limit of 10, which doesn't take that long to do.

And seriously,... you're seriously complaining about birds you had to kill for a whooping 2 separate quests (as an Asmodian, but likely only 2 quests as a Elyos)?? That's pretty sad. Jesus, I guess you'd be shitting bricks once you got to the Mumu (as Asmodian). You fight a lot of them since a certain tribe is aggressive towards Asmodians. All of the quests were great to do the first time around, I read each one and enjoyed the little storylines that build up around them.

My second time through though, I didn't bother re-reading quests I had already done. Found out there was some quests I missed out on my first time around as well.

Anyway, I'm too tired right now to continue with any kind of argument beyond what I already stared. Maybe tomorrow. x.x

I don't find the quests tedious at all tbh. Most of them are easy to do.

And there are some that require more then 10 :p One bird quest as Asmodian requires you to get 20 bird plumes that has 50-75% chance to drop, and another where you have to kill 20 Sprigg Gatherer and 9 Sprigg Hunters. That quest it broken though and killing hunters don't count towards quest completion.

Ah, I guess I forgot about those, but even so they didn't take too long and they weren't really hard or anything.

I didn't say the quests were hard, or even tedious. I said they were blah...as in a lot of boring "kill x number of y" crap that could have been a little more creative. Every game does this though, and it is important for progressing your character.

Its not really a problem though imo. If you pick up all quests you usually have several quests in the same area.

Might have 1 quest with kill X and Y, one with get drop from X, and one with find the item in the area X and Y spawns.

Hell, once I had something like:
1) Kill X and Y
2) Get drop from X and Y
3) Kill Y and Z
4) get item from area X, Y and Z spawns
5) Find NPC in area X, Y and Z spawns

First off, boring does not equal difficult. I know the quests were easy and were often conveniently located near other mobs you needed for other quests. That was nice that they made everything near each other, good for NCsoft. However, that does not mean that they could not be considered boring.

Second, if you compare something to terrible games, of course it's not going to seem that bad. However, I expect a game that costs $50 at launch plus another $15 a month to be miles better than a free Korean botfest.

I don't have much of a problem with it being the same old blah kill/collect quests. Just make it killing birds and then tigers. Or birds but then bigger birds, like an ostrich or something. It's not like it was a storyline quest about a specific group, like the spies that were outside the Elyos town and later at the farm. Those particular mobs were supposed to look the same and I have no problem with that.

If you like, I can instead complain about the lack of group quests and low-level dungeons and pvp content. Why should I have to grind out 25 levels just to PvP and another five or so on top of that just for the first instance? The first ten levels are fine, but once you recover your memory and ascend, the game should start. Not another fifteen levels later on. Especially when the cap is only 50 (no, I'm not complaining about the cap itself, just that out of fifty levels, the first thirty have no dungeons).

Oh, there's also the fact that the leveling is incredibly linear so far. You have to do the same exact quests in the same exact zones for each and every alt, yippee!

The lore behind flying involves Daeva's needing the presence of Aether to actually remain in flight. Many zones are devoid of Aether for various reasons-- the split of the world, etc. Thus, you are not able to fly everywhere.

I thought you can gather aether everywhere? At least when I was running around collecting silver for one quest, it wasn't leveling the same gathering skill I had 1-10, it was some new fancy one. Either way, it's still kind of lame that they hype up the flight but hardly let you use it. Any ideas if the higher level zones allow a lot more flight? The world just seemed so constricted from what I saw. The scenery off in the distance was so pretty, but you couldn't explore any of it!

Hi Calais - to answer some of your questions quickly, Aether extraction is a totally different skill altogether. You have Gathering skill which you level with those fruits, vegetables, crystals, ores, fish, etc. Then you have Aether extraction which comes from abyss fragments and small/big vortices. Aether is used for crafting and can't be farmed until you actually have wings.

In regards to flight, I understand your point about it being a little overhyped, but after getting over that, you have to look at it more as a tool than a form of transportation. In the Abyss, flight is a huge thing. The abyss is flowing with Aether so right off the bat, you get a minium of 1 minute of continuous flight (level 25) which only increases with new wings, pots, equipment, etc. (at higher levels). The abyss is a HUMONGOUS multitiered zone where you can fly everywhere actually. There is a still the flight timer, but you can get around that by flying back and forth through what I call Aether rings that recharge your flight time by 5-7 sec increments. It has it's tactical and strategic uses in battle and can really make or break a fight.

Nothin' to bitch about quest wise for me. Everythin' was quick and easy. I think the road to 50 will be short, and I'm happy with that.

D: That's so fucked up. I bet they were just trying to do quests and the mean stinky Elyos came and ruined their experience. Booooo Elyos, die in a fire.

I am saddened no Asmo legion came to rape your face. Sad day.

When I rifted in Elyos land, we were 6 people raping 12 :p Was fun ganking people too.

Eventually we found 3 other parties and raped some more until we decided to go to the Abyss instead.

Lol Ecks. It goes both ways my furback friend. I was farming peacefully in our version of Morheim (Eltnen) when I got ganked multiple times by Asmo rifters. I've learned you can't go afk for a drink in this game lol.. :hiding:

More on this:

Then prepare to be pleasantly surprised. Aion is one of those MMOs with actual equipment progression in place, and you won't be wearing something for a level 30 at level 50 that's easily bought. Read as: It's just like every MMO that isn't FFXI as far as gear goes.

In regards to this:

I'm sold on the gameplay now it's just goin' to be how you get your "end game" stuff I'm waitin' to know. If it's through PvP, I may do it. If it's through dungeons I'm 100% sold, but if the best armor in the game is the top set you can buy for like a mil in the big cities, that's just discouraging'. I like to find my stuff.

I just found this on the PowerWiki from the official website, located under the topic of item>rarity... Keep in mind Unique items are the best.

Aion PowerWiki said:
Unique: These items are the hardest to find and most expensive to purchase from Contribution vendors. However, they make up for it by having the highest attribute bonuses.

/sigh it's exactly like FFXI except you have a choice, to buy or to find. However, tryin' to find what can be bought ruins the spirits of findin' to me.
