Aion- discuss

cant wait for it to come out, did all the beta tests and it was great...

Hmm seems I might like Templar the most, with a little spirit master or sorc on the side.

Is that the only tanking class in the game though? I see Gladiator gets a taunt, would they be viable? Seems hard to think that a mmo would only have ONE tanking class. Seems like that could cause problems down the road.

wow..from Aion's site..it's taking F.O.R.E.V.E.R to download the client. Right now it's downloading at 67kbs. Been downloading for about 4 hours.. and only 2% complete lol

Think it would be quicker to download it from Fileplanet?
Download the torrent.

As for tanks, both Gladiator, and Templar can tank, and Cleric can tank if you're, say, duoing elites. Not sure how Glad would do tanking instances, as they can't wear a shield.

Can you create as many chars as you want ? or are you limited to a certain number?

I think you are limited per server

Templar is a lot of fun, I really enjoy tanking as one.

In terms of HP, Armor and defensive stats, Templar is the way to go in the ways of of tanking. Yes, Gladiators can tank, but to a certain extent. While leveling off elite mobs, I could see a clear difference between myself and a gladiator in our party on the amount of damage we each took and increased down time between mobs.

Instance tanking can be a little harder with a gladiator tank. Templars have access to much more CC and hate tools to tank several mobs at once.

I see you put leveling off elite mobs with a party? So is that the best way to level in this game? I've just played WoW for so long, and the only time one uses a group is an elite quest or instance. So is it kind of like FFXI in a way to level up faster by partying?

Also, anyone here have a Legion for the Elyos faction? Would be nice to join one from the beginning.

leveling off of elite mobs reminds me a lot of lvling in FFXI. My cleric friend and I would grab a bunch of DPS and make a roaming party to kill elites. 10k exp a pop when you first start out. I gained 4 levels this way in a little less than 4 hours.

Questing is still a blast in this game. It wasn't so much that we wanted to blitz by the early levels but were really interested in seeing what other classes do. Each time we would party we would try to grab classes we haven't seen in action before.

I plan on gaining most of my exp from elites and campaign missions :)

This is what I don't exactly understand. People say on aionsource.com that leveling on elites is awesome because you get 44k a pop on them every 5 min solo. At the same level, you get 5-10k a mob solo by killing normal mobs in a matter of seconds.

I've come to the conclusion that people in AION, like a lot of people in FFXI, are so fixated by large numbers that they think 44k exp every 5 min is better then 5k every 20 sec.

Naturally it is faster in a party, at what level did you get 10k/mob? When I killed elites Elyos side I'd get like 5-6k a pop from elite mobs in a full party, and I could get the same amount of exp solo in a shorter time.

I get bored soloing is what it all comes down to for me.

Soloing elites is just a waste of time, I agree. I would never go out and solo an elite for the sole purpose of exp.

When I go out into an elite burn, I normally do it with a full party of 6. Depending on the make up, we can down an elite in 30 seconds. For me, I enjoy partying with others and seeing what other classes can do. In most cases in a party size element, I look at 20-25k a minute.

Yes. MUCH quicker from fileplanet.

Seems like Chanter will be a low pop class. Might be fun.

Will they sought after like Bards/Rdms in FFXI for every group, or like Shamans in WoW, if they're around then fine, and even then we might not invite them?

Personally, I want to have a chanter in every single group if I can.

Chanters were everywhere in the Chinese OB. Made me glad I chose Cleric when I ascended. Don't kill as fast, but fuck if I wasn't nigh-invincible.

I'm going to be passing on the OB here. Don't want to burn out before the headstart. Let me know what server and faction some of you finalize your decision on. I'll most likely be playing Cleric again.

I guess I'll just try all of them in OB. I love to tank as I did that in WoW a lot, being a Warrior and all. I constantly did all three specs with it.

So I know I would enjoy Templar and Gladiator. Seems like Spirit Master will be fun when I want alone time.

Chanter seems fun, because in FFXI i played RDM a lot, and in WoW I liked to have Shamans in my group. Most of the time, these classes fall off, because you usually see way more DPS and or tanking classes. We'll see.

I did read where it said Clerics are hard as hell to kill. So in pvp, I wonder if a Cleric and Gladiator would be most dangerous with a duo...

Come launch time I'm gonna be an Asmo 100%, since I'm gonna be part of Reya's legion we haven't come to a decision yet on what server we'll be playing but I hope it's one with plenty of familiar faces.

As for the open beta though, I'm gonna play a smelly Elyos Templar and I'll be on Siel server.

Who you callin smelly??!! You Assmo's look like the one's who need showers ;P. There has been a lot of discussions that KDO will probably not be on Siel Server afterall due to idiot legions like Ragequit calling that server their home. The Asmo Legion <Sinister> will be going to the same server KDO decides upon and vice versa.

Anyways.. and I was in a peaceful mood with the likes of your kind (here's proof)

It's comments like that Ecks, that'll get you sent back to your Asmodae obelisk right quick buddy!

Dinged 35 this morning, but my looks haven't changed much since 34 (just acquired a new mace @35).

My brother is still level 34, but he's a f'n beast of a Templar. Those 2 Asmo's (who we were chillin with in the top pics) tried to gank him at first, but he laughed since they couldn't put a dent in him:

This is entirely dependant on the soloing class imho. Magey jobs like SMs, Clerics, Chanters, and even Templars would probably benefit more from a party hunting elites versus high crit dps jobs like Rangers, Assassins, Sorcs, and Glads. It's also helpful to work the elites a couple levels lower than the posted elite level i.e. Kaidan mines where elites are 29-31.. so keep the party level in the 26-27 range (minimum 5 people with decent gear, 1 being a Temp and another a Cleric). You'll get over 20K exp per mob every 50 seconds to a 1min depending on how aggressive your puller is. I see full parties of 6 with 29's and 30's and it makes me scratch my head..

Heheh yeah I totally agree with you Jaz-man :)!

I found last beta that an assassin and a chanter could easily duo same level or slightly high level elites with minimum downtime. Not really effective overall for leveling as the kills are kind of slow, but you can easily do the quests this way.

idk if my assassin sucked or not, but i found soloing anything more than 1 or 2 levels above me very difficult lol
