Alcohol

At what age do you consider it acceptable to be able to consume alcohol?20 sounds good. Depends on the individual's maturity level. I wouldn't drink with anyone under 24 probably.

I think numbers like 20 and 18 are so bad. The fact that right when (or soon after) you no longer are living with your parents someone gives you alcohol and its almost as if you are bound to abuse it or at least drink more than you would if you had to go home to your parents...I mean I know people who would go home drunk, high and coked up and say goodnight to their parents, but overall.

I'm a fan of the younger the better, because it is a socially acceptable and long standing drug it should be exposed to people around the beginning of high school age at least so they get a good grasp of it and aren't at frats dying.

On average, how often do you consume alcohol?
Probably about 3-5 times a week. Usually only once a week til the point that I am innebriated, usually a beer after a long day of class or a glass of wine (one of my roommates makes his own wine so we have alot around).

How many units would you say it takes for you to start feeling the effects of alcohol in your body? Those type of things specifically around 4 beers, ~3 shots or a couple mixed drinks/martinis (~4 shots).

When was your first taste of alcohol?
Was probably 9. Pete's Wicked Ale, my dad gave me a sip.

Have you ever driven whilst over the legal limit of alcohol within your system?
Never over the legal limit...if I was 21 haha. I have driven after drinking maybe once, I tend to bus and walk everywhere, if I DD I don't drink.

How likely would it be for you to try drive home after consuming just over the legal amount, if you thought you were up to doing it?
I wouldn't do it there is no reason when I live so close.

What advantages do you feel you receive after drinking alcohol? Do you think there are any negative sides to the intoxicated you?
My dancing ability is increased. Only negative side for me is I am less productive the next day.

It all depends on the maturity level of the individual. I've known 20 year old's who had twice the self-control I have.

Naturally, I corrupted them, but that's beside the point. :)

I don't see the problem with drinking younger if parents are cool with it. I live around the military though, and 20 year old jarheads have a tendancy to act about 17. Well, no, I don't want to say that. I've known some pretty cool 17 year olds.

On average, how often do you consume alcohol?
Once a month or so; not opposed to more often, but I've been busy with other things for the last year or two.

How many units would you say it takes for you to start feeling the effects of alcohol in your body?
4? I've gone as high as 13 100-proof shots within 2.5 hours and not thrown up. I think I start feeling the effects at 4-5 shots or beers, though. Some reason, wine only takes 2-3 glasses. Maybe my friends and I pour big.

When was your first taste of alcohol?
1991 on Lithuanian Independence from the USSR. I was 7.

Have you ever driven whilst over the legal limit of alcohol within your system?
Nope.

1-2. I've given my keys to a friend after just having one glass of wine with dinner, which is certainly under the legal amount.

What advantages do you feel you receive after drinking alcohol? Do you think there are any negative sides to the intoxicated you?
I frankly enjoy the high. It's buzzed, and I tend to think a lot; it's nice to relax every once in a while without a half-dozen critical layers moving over every experience. It's not to kill my mind systematically or drown my sorrows; but sometimes "I've got friends in low places" feels more authentic when everyone's drunkenly belting it.

At what age do you consider it acceptable to be able to consume alcohol?
I don't know if I've ever actually known an "adult" 18 year old, even among those who have dealt with very serious life changes. I think I'd say 21 (although I'd raise the age of the draft to that as well).

Without alcohol, would a night out be worse than if you had consumed alcohol?
A night out? Maybe . . . it depends on the event. Going dancing at a bar, it seems like a piece of the experience. Going to the movies, it's totally not necessary. And my nights in can have it or not and I don't care. We used to sneak on to the roof of my building with a bottle of wine and chat; the wine was always a nice part of the event.

If you're at a party, and there isn't enough alcohol, would you be tempted to go out and get more, or stay and make do with what you have?
If it's a party where people expect to be drinking, then yeah, alcohol's an important part of the event. But I don't think I'd just go get more for myself; I'd probably find a corner and sit and chat with somebody all night if the booze ran out, and have a grand time.
