I don't give a shit what religion or political bias you are. Some people do not deserve a 3rd or 4th chance. They deserve what they have dealt to others. Wasting tax payers money so that they can continue to do so? Idiocy.

I never understood why people find the death sentence to be so "offensive" or "wrong", especially for a case like this. Do people not find raping a young girl over 150 times and holding her at gunpoint not to be wrong? Those girls didn't have a choice, they were forced to live through what happened then die because he chose it for them. Why shouldn't we choose to return the favor? You absolutely CANNOT rehabilitate someone who does this kind of shit, he needs to be done away with before he does this to someone else.

Executing someone costs more money than keeping them in jail for life. I'd say change the appeals process to make it faster so you can kill/release faster and make the death penalty also finacially beneficial to the public.

Most countries "dislike" America for this reason, the death penalty, the U.N. frowns upon the U.S. because they say it's against human rights to use the death penalty.

In my opinion, if you murder someone especially a 12 year old girl, you don't deserve the death penalty, you deserve to rot in prison. Just put him in solitary confinement or something, the death penalty is to good for this scum.

It's also disgusting that he's an illegal immigrant and he was not deported after his first crime. Fucking ridiculous.

The problem with the death penalty is the gross inequalities in the way it's carried out. If you've got money, you can probably beat the rap because you can hire good lawyers and keep that appeals process chugging along forever. If you're poor, you're more likely to get the needle no matter how guilty or innocent you are.

I'm not philosophically opposed to the death penalty -- I think there are plenty of people who deserve it -- but I'm forced to oppose it on practical grounds because I don't trust the legal system enough to know with 100% certainty they're not putting innocent people to death because they're poor, black, etc.

What's the percentage of cases that are overturned years later when it was discovered the guy was innocent out of cases investigated? I think it was pretty high. Anyone know?

For all the people that are agnostic or atheist:

Even God says "an eye for an eye!"

But yeah, I really think people should not even have second chances, no matter the offense. Good leadership is based off of good discipline, and if the discipline is lacking, then so will the people...

But like it was stated, only punish the people that are 100% known to have committed the crime. If you dont know if they did or not, then put them under house arrest. At least be a little understanding that the person could be innocent.

He neglected to register as a known sex offender. It wasn't the first time he did this. I know innocent people have been put to death, but this was a repeat offence.

I agree with the first part of this statement, but not the latter. People who are deprived of stimulation can put themselves into a self medatative state, effectivly taking a nap for a long long time.

Thats to good for them, and judging by what I have heard about how prison inmates look at rapists and pedophiles, they deserve to be subjected to the rigors of prison life.

someone guilty of raping a small girl deserves to die. they deserve to die in a painful way over and over and over again. torture to death, resucitated and killed again, they should have to go on with life of pain for as long as they can be made to live. maybe that's just my opinion since my girlfriend was raped by her father as a child. every day for the rest of their life they have to deal with it. anger, guilt, shame, pain, some normal things in life become akward. losing their childhood, their innocence, their smiles and happy life... no punishment is too harsh. the only reason i think prison is a semi-suiting punishment is because of how people who commit such crimes are treated in prison. because a guard will look the other way when a man who raped a little girl is being beaten. death is far too good for these people, they don't deserve a second chance.
If i could pick one punishment to assign to crimes like this, it would be to turn the criminal over to the family of the victim and look the other way to anything they do. i'd also settle for pulled apart by horses like they did in the olden days.

*edit* the only way to end these crimes is the same way one would end terrorism. make the consequences so drastic that the very idea becomes unthinkable.

This was true when we were kids; however, it's no longer the case. A good way to deal with someone for life would be to make them work 9-5 in a nonpublic job like data entry for the rest of their lives. Then they generate some of that money back for the state. For some reason I can't form an opinion whether there should be a death penalty or not. Not indifferent. Just can't decide. Regardless, the death penalty should be used to remove the character from society permanently and efficiently. I don't see it as a good retaliation mechanism. As in this case, putting the person to death might be the most humane thing to do to him. He's probably jacked up beyond help.

I believe in torture and demand it to return :|

I know that dude deserves the harshest punishment he can get and to some extent, I do agree he should be executed but I always wondered: Does anyone really have the right to choose whether someone should live or die?

Maybe it's a question of morality, but I really don't think it's humane for anyone to decide.

Who are you? :shok: And what have you done with meh Waffle boy?

Did he have the right to decide if that little girl had the choice to live or die? No.

He should die.

They should throw him in a cell with a 300 pound gay rapist, that likes to beat the living shit out of his victims.

Give the both of them a life sentence, and the rapist viagra.

Cost of 1x Glock 9mm: appx $900
Cost of 3x 9mm rounds for your Glock 9mm: Appx 47 cents.
Having one less useless piece of shit in the world: Priceless.

There are some things, money can't buy. But for everything else, there's a three day waiting period.

At one point, I heard about a law in texas that states you can not have an appeal or only so many appeals if there are 2 or more witnesses that saw you commit the crime. I can't find anything about it though.

I think i saw it in a George Carlin stand up special. He was talking about how some states are trying to get rid of the death penalty, and Texas is putting in a fast lane.

I think that the death penalty is deserved for many crimes, but I do think the justice system is in shambles and because of that, to many people who are innocent get executed.

I think it would be a good idea to implement a law stating that you could not execute anyone if there were not at least 2 eye witnesses to the crime. That would make the death penalty acceptable in my eyes. Of course the witnesses would be hard to find because the defense attorneys would very obviously want to question their credibility and try to have them discredited.

Here's the fun thing about being an atheist: we don't care what "gods" say.

Plus I'm pretty sure Jesus said "Turn the other cheek". Even the old-school Jewish G-d from the Old Testament never said eye for an eye - that was Hammurabi.
