However, as a war/nin you should dual wield single axes or swords.

No, not until 48-50.

Great Axe is still better until then.

I only like Great Axe if subbing THF. SA+Sturmwind is nice :biggrin:

See, I'm not fan of axes either. Shit, I have no intention of leveling that skill. My choice would be Great Axe all the way with warrior. But, that's just not the case. -.-;;

Why the fuck are you subbing nin and using a great sword?

If you wanna use a 2handed weapon don't sub nin.....

So I could be a main or backup tank. Utsusemi. Its how I play and *most* people accept it because, although its not THE best, its still effective.

Not ALL people sub ninja just for Dual Wield.

actualy, /MNK WOULD be better for backup tank, especialy in the jungles.

Doing warrior to 37, i did /NIN but used an axe and a dagger for "variety" (it was a Federation knife, which is awsome)

/NIN is fine for a 2H weapon on a Warrior main, if the party needs you to have shadows to backup tank. Or SATA with a THF.

Oh, yeah, and as Mara points out, /MNK is actually better early on for backup tanking - 24-30 I wouldn't touch /NIN (Ichi is worthless against Mandragora, really).

/MNK would be better though. More VIT, HP, and hate. Spamming Boost and Provoke while beating on things with a great axe gets you obscene hate. Also you won't have to worry about utsu being interupted and not swinging for a minimum of 4 seconds per cast...

Well great axe does great, but at 42 I was busting Soldiers for 400+ with {Raging Axe} ending SC's. Avg 200-490 from mid 30's. Now, perhaps this is because I'm merited, but war/nin is still quite formidable with axe, axe combo in the early goings. Chiefkabobs and what not.^^

Boost + Warcry + Provoke + Great Axe = Black Mage wanna-be tanks worst nightmare.

If my equational math is correct.... >.>;;

Yes, Merits make a very large difference...

I really dont care about popular demand or the weapon ranking system. I use a Great Sword, plain and simple. If I get less party invites? Fine. I wont stop playing my character the way I wish. But I will NOT use axes.
I'm sorry, but I must say this.
You might like great swords, but you're gimping yourself by skipping out on Sturmwind. I thought people realized this game has its own establishes rules among players. I like to use swords, but Im a THF and I'm not going to gimp myself by doing so. You should understand that, your primary goal in the game should be to maximize your effectiveness in a party. Axes are useless at that level, but please get yourself a Gaxe.

Er... oh, and another thing. You may not care about the weapon ranking system, but the game's internal mechanics sure do. Great Sword being a B+ weapon for Warrior vs. Great Axe being A+ and Axe being A; these are not rankings thought up by players, they are internal measurements that represent your skill cap growth as your level increases.

Skill cap determines your baseline Attack and Accuracy for a weapon at all levels. Having a lower skill means your Attack and Accuracy both go down. Compared to a Great Axe, at level 30, the difference is four skill. That's one point more than one level off, and the difference expands greatly over time - at 40, 5 points; at 50, 6 points; at 60, 7 points; finally culminating in a 20 point variance at 75.

Not only that, but most Great Sword WS aren't very powerful without SATA - they are all single hit except Sickle Moon which a DRK gets at 60 (WAR gets the skill for it a whole two levels later). Sickle Moon is a very good WS, but unfortunately, Warrior is actually incapable of using it, on top of everything else, and the strongest Great Sword WS Spinning Slash is also totally unavailable to Warrior.

Everyone benefits when people stick with their A weapons in exp parties... at least until 75 when people forsake IT++ mobs anyway, and gear options become so powerful that skill variance gives way to raw weapon power (gogo Ridill Warriors!); however, Great Swords definitely do not fall under this category.

Not to mention great sword weaponskills suck, especially at that level

I see one place rare place where i can see GSD as acceptable/useful for a low level war (capped skill mind you).

You lvl in say garlaige/behemoth's dominion, on bats. You have a 33+ thf now switched to dagger. Then opening with power slash for a distortion skillchain on your tank closed with SATA Viper Bite would be a very good idea.

However, if i had this tactic going on in a party, i would only chose the war as a last resort, picking with higher priority, SAM, RNG, DRG, DRK(one with skilled GSD and not too hard headed insisting on scythe) who can open a skillchain with their A ranked weapons. (Possibly a DD NIN with Blade: rin, however if they tank at this lvl, their TP gain is rather slow, so it wouldn't work well)

You probaly would be better of subbing monk and being able to do more damage and take more hits.

Do it or don't, really a choice of preference there, especialy at the sub lvls. Me? I am a cheap bastard and prefer to DD instead of tanking.

You make absolutely no sense. Half the fun of this game is improving upon your character. We put in time to level our jobs, and like to do well, at least I would assume so. GS is terrible compared to GA/Axes at lower levels, and later on as well (with the exception of someone sometimes using GS for SS for SC situations).

Honestly dude, the prices of that armor are VERY low, and if you farmed even just a little bit a day youd have the entire set within no time. The guy acted like a jackass, but I see where he's coming from.

Honestly, I dont see why you would 'refuse' to use axes/GA. Are you trying to prove a point or what? Simply put, your weapon rating for GA and Axes is better than swords, so why not put them to use. They do more damage anyhow. If you really want to use swords, then wait until 73 and use a joyeuse. Thats when an offhand sword becomes good.

Warrior isnt a cheap job. If you wanted a cheap job, you should have played bst. Any DD melee is going to be expensive if geared correctly. Mages get expensive if you gear them correctly as well. I am far from a great equipped brd, but I have spent 7M+ on my gear.

Good luck man, do some farming, not for other people, but for yourself. >>>It will make you have a better time<<< Youll enjoy warrior more if you do a lot more damage and dont miss 1/2 of your swings.
