not the full cent set of course, some races RSE is better and whatnot, but yeah...and who is "Him"!!! NAMES! NAMES! GIMME GIMME!!
Eulore said:he obviously doesn't want to DD if he's using a great sword though.
Theres still a problem with that. You're basically saying you don't want to use an axe or great axe because you're only leveling WAR for a sub job. Not many people care what you're leveling it for, the fact is that you're making yourself less effective than if you used a Great Axe. Not to mention that as an end game DRK you would want axes capped too. Plus the whole, Scythe being better than Greatsword until 66 thing for DRK you know.Alerith said:Ok, been gone for a few days but this is how it is:
I dont plan on taking warrior all the way to 75. GS is my choice weapon until I get to 37, from which I will be able to sub it with my NIN and never have to level it again.
As for DRK, I will be getting that soon enough, and when I do, my GS level will be well enough. I wont use axes because I just dont like them, and also because later in the game, I will have no use for them. Why would I level a skill im not going to use?
My plan ends up like this:
Level warrior to 37 to sub with Ninja.
Level Ninja until I either reach 75, or get bored.
Level Dark Knight with my superb GS skill.
Level Dark Knight until I reach 75 or get bored.
From there? Not sure. But unless I decide to pick up WAR again (which I dont), I probably won't ever have a need for axe skills.
(Unless all my other jobs are 75 and WAR is the only one left.)

O rly?Makelith said:Already having great sword capped to a point makes it that much easier for Spinning Slash when you have to get it. I still dont see how some Drks get to 70+ w/out it. But untill 66, when you get spinning slash, scythe is the more used weapon for Drk.

Eulore said:It takes me about 2 hours to get a skill to 100 in qufim. From 0.
Tagrineth said:Er... oh, and another thing. You may not care about the weapon ranking system, but the game's internal mechanics sure do. Great Sword being a B+ weapon for Warrior vs. Great Axe being A+ and Axe being A; these are not rankings thought up by players, they are internal measurements that represent your skill cap growth as your level increases.
Skill cap determines your baseline Attack and Accuracy for a weapon at all levels. Having a lower skill means your Attack and Accuracy both go down. Compared to a Great Axe, at level 30, the difference is four skill. That's one point more than one level off, and the difference expands greatly over time - at 40, 5 points; at 50, 6 points; at 60, 7 points; finally culminating in a 20 point variance at 75.
Not only that, but most Great Sword WS aren't very powerful without SATA - they are all single hit except Sickle Moon which a DRK gets at 60 (WAR gets the skill for it a whole two levels later). Sickle Moon is a very good WS, but unfortunately, Warrior is actually incapable of using it, on top of everything else, and the strongest Great Sword WS Spinning Slash is also totally unavailable to Warrior.
Everyone benefits when people stick with their A weapons in exp parties... at least until 75 when people forsake IT++ mobs anyway, and gear options become so powerful that skill variance gives way to raw weapon power (gogo Ridill Warriors!); however, Great Swords definitely do not fall under this category.
Alerith said:Ok, I was leveling my WAR/NIN (29/14) in Yhoator Jungle the other day, and I get an /tell asking me what armor and weapon I had. I told him I was using full Chainmail and an Inferno Sword. (Great Sword).
The next thing I know he starts going off on me for not haveing Eisen gear and for not using two axes. I personally do not like using axes at all. Swords are my thing, always will be. And I cant really afford the Eisenschaller and the rest of the set. Not to mention the AH in Kazham was sold out.
So this is how it ended up: (This guy is level 30 WAR with his own Eisen gear)
Him: Damn noob, you need to get Eisen/Kamph gear and get two axes.
Me: I dont use axes. I hate them. {Great Sword} is my primary weapon.
Me: And I can't afford the Eisen gear.
Him: Well then you have no right leveling here.
Me: Whatever.
Him: Dont expect to find a good party noob.
So a few hours go by. I reach 33 and im about to pack up for the day. On my way out, I see him, level 28! and dead. Apparently he had d'lvld TWICE in the four hours that we had been fighting. And after all the shit he said to me earlier, he has the balls to ask me to find him a raise.
Him: Hey, find me a raise please would you?
Me: ....no.
Him: wtf? why are you being an asshole?
Me: Maybe you should get a reraise item. You'll never succeed without one. <sarcsasm>
Him: FUCKING NOOB
Me: Buh-bye /blacklist
I felt so good after that, but it just goes to show you that some of the most anal people cant handle their jobs, even with good gear. Someone said on another topic "The armor does not make the player" and this is true in most cases. If your within a reasonable level gap, you can still succeed. I had been using that chainmail since quifm and it has never failed me. This guy obviously needs help.
Someone else said it best:
Having a skilled player with lesser gear is much better than having an idiot with the best gear.
(I know its not word for word but I dont feel like finding it right now.)
