Another Crappy RDM Topic

Melee Mamool Firespit do not always get absorbed, you need the full 3 shadows for them to get absorbed. Pretty sure anyway.

As for MP you also have zenith gear, serket ring and most likely capped MP merits, many RDMs do not have any of those.

Well, I dunno. I had 2 shadows left, and it absorbed both shadows for me. I'm thinking it might be a random ammount of shadows.

And no. I don't use Serket Ring <.<; I get more MP then HP with those.

I can get over 1,100 MP on RDM, but that'd be rather useless considering I'd have more MP then HP, which results in less effective converts.

I prefer main healing meleeburns on RDM over WHM. Why?

-I never run out of MP. 3/tic from gear and Sanction, 3/tic from refresh, 3/tic from bard, more if there's a corsair + bard. Not to mention Convert, but the past couple parties I've only needed it like once every half hour instead of once every 10 minutes.

-Fastcast. Cures come in faster, I can re-use cure3 faster, haste cycles are completed in less time.
Well, I have cure casting time merits. I cast as fast, if not faster, then a RDM =/
-Refresh. I can toss the BRD refresh if he's subbing mage, I can refresh any blus/drks in the party (if applicable).
I usually just throw him a devotion :p

In my opinion, the above outweighs having Cure5 (rarely need), Regen3 (solved with Cure3), and Shellra4/5 (Shell2 and eh, guess I have to use Cure4 instead of Cure3 maybe twice).
Well, you can't really say Regen 3 is solved with Cure III. Regen III cures for, I believe, a total of 660 HP, 750 with briault. It also only costs, what, 68 MP to cast? Versus Cure III's 48 MP cost. That's 20 more MP for over 500 more HP cured. That's a 11HP/mp ratio, versus Cure III's 4.4HP/mp. That's even a better hp/mp ratio then my Cure V's for over 900 HP. My Cure V's would actually have to heal for about 1500 HP just to be more MP efficient then Regen III.

And in a long merit party, those extra MP's really adds up. A lot.

You also ignore WHM with bar-spell merits, such as myself. Fully capped bar spell merits give 10 MAB to the same ellement, decreasing, say, water damage from cursed sphere by 10%. Add on Protectra V unmerited, and it gives another 22% MAB, giving you a total of 32% magic damage reduced. This is ignoring the chance to resist spells, which will be much greater with Cleric's Pantaloons and another +10 from bar-spell merits.

uhh, if your standing around and havnt casted a spell in 20 seconds, and you have not rested, there's something wrong with you.

just because you have fast mp regen, if you have the capactity to hold 25 mp (75rdm with at least errant, more if you are smart), and everything your job entails is active, why wouldnt you rest? hell, even if you have to put back in your MP gear for convert... thats free MP.
Well, not neccesarily. First of, getting up from healing delays you slightly, meaning the melees might be without haste for some time, thus reducing exp/hr slightly. In parties before merit parties, it can very well be the difference between life and death from an unlucky double attacked critical hit followed by a goblin rush or bomb toos if you're main healing.

How can anyone still try and justify meleeing on RDM? lol... We must be back in 2004.

Also, Uzor is the worst RDM ever >=(

yeah =( I still remember the horrors of me wearing lvl 28 gear as 46 RDM

Uzor you fail. Protect gives physical defense not magic. Look at your spell descriptions.

I know I am not the best RDM and yes I do fall behind sometimes. I do refresh by going down the party list and haste after each refresh. It doesn't matter who gets refreshed as long as its consitant. I do forget at times when I have to heal or debuff.

I never sent Vallion a /tell telling him he is a bad DRG. I don't do that to people who I don't even know personally.

Please if you do have a problem with me please tell me personally. I will respect your words greater than if you just flame them out for the whole world to see.

To releave you guys from my horrible play I am quitting FFXI.

Thank you

hmm lets see first off we don't run around we stand at part where the path get narrow. thinking.. mage normally don't pay to much attention in to what the brd brings in. Lets see there the 3-4 puks>1thf mob> 1 bst mob> 1blm> 2 whm> 2 wyverns> 1-2 ninja and 1 drg mob think that was the list of mobs killed last time was there. If the puks or drg poped and brd was out I could sleep it. Also brd does not have worry about the mages much and if the brd get into trouble sleeping mob im the lend a hand. Tend to enfeb the wyverns and the thf mob because those are the only one that can make problems and dispel and silence the whm and blm mobs.
As for the careless warrior prob say lazy wars that dont like cast shadows and mnks that dont sub nin that tend to pull much hate because they all out.

Bards dont need your help to sleep, every Bard should know what the next mob that is going to pop will be. Also theres no reason you should be fighting Wyverns at the North Camp because the Mamools will have began to repop, unless you are camping or being camped on by another party.

Eh? How are WARs or MNKS lazy with shadows when they get hit by MULTI HIT WS that tear through shadows. Are you not understanding that? Monks can pull plenty of hate even subbing Nin, and in a merit party you are SUPPOSE to go all out otherwise you are settling for gimp exp.

You could just change gear after you use the initial extra MP you have. Auto-Regen will gain all the HP back you need by the time you have to convert and even if it didn't you can just use a Regen I which costs 15 MP vs an extra 125 MP you could get for the HP it heals.

Well, Myrid I'll point that you have AF2 hat and Dalm which more then half of the RDMs out there will never get. With those two items it does make RDM a lot more feasible, but normally RDMs won't have these.

Myrid said:

-Debuffs. Gravity does help on nins and thfs, and although I just got it, Dia3 lowers defense more than Dia2. Slow2 and/or Para2 on slept mobs that the party hasn't started on yet if you have time. Assisting BRD with sleeps.

As BRD I have to back up heal more with a RDM then I do with a WHM and use more MP then normal, Refresh helps but the only reason Im using my MP as much is because the RDM needs help curing more often then a WHM.

Most RDMs will run out of mp if they are debuffing mobs more then a few times in 10 minutes. Slow 2 is 45 MP, Para II is 36 and Dia III is 45 way too much to be using consistently. That is too much mp to be wasting without being an uberly equipped RDM. I'd only ever recommend using Slow II on Skoffins since they are so dangerous

-Nukes. I've saved chains more than once with a well-timed nuke with excess MP.

In my opinion, the above outweighs having Cure5 (rarely need), Regen3 (solved with Cure3), and Shellra4/5 (Shell2 and eh, guess I have to use Cure4 instead of Cure3 maybe twice).

I do agree here, but RDMs either dont have enough MP or dont realize the chain is going to end and dont nuke.

As for the curing I dont, I have seen WARs take over 1k Fang Rushes and Cure V which is faster then Cure IV save lives. Regen III, even without merits, can heal as much as Cure IV over time for less mp cost.

I won't say RDMs can't main heal in tougher exp camps because they can and with great gear can probably do it better. But I do think a decently equipped WHM out performs a decently equipped RDM.

Just a minor point, but while he can get to a max 1100MP, he can't actually get that actual MP unless he rests. (and I think that was the point Uzor was trying to make). RDM MP is restricted by convert, and I can get to /1100MP too, but I can't actually have 1100MP In my pool.

For a RDM any total MP above your total HP is irrelevant, unless you can rest.

Right, but you come to camp with full mp, so that's an extra XXX mp when you start your pt off is what Crosis is saying. Edit: That's why he said "initial extra MP".

Kinda off topic, but is it just me or can any other RDM usually not stand partying for more then hour 30mins or so lol. I zone out all the time.. I usually use Me Tank(which is rarely ever PLD) WHM, BLU, BLM, DRK. I usually ask the BLU if they want haste as they have Refueling most the time (although Haste Spell > Refueling). I usually Haste myself Tank, or if WHm is in Pt ill divide pt up, but usually if im main healing its just me and the Tank, the rest can get over it. Cure > Haste. occasionally ill toss one but most part im not usually to concerned about hasteing the rest the melee. As for enfeeble, it depends on the incoming mob, Imps(silence) Fly(Paralyze II / Slow II) Trolls (Dia III, Paralyze II) Mammol Ja (Dia III w/finger on dispel trigger, Paralyze II). Skoffin (Dia III, Paralyze II, Slow II, Dispel) Fugly Toads(Jnun)(Dia III).

exactly so unless you wearing gear all time that give both mp and hp like crimson (hench the reason about the crimson scale mail) it is worthless to have over your max mp which normaly around 1k.

Well, thing is, I'd end up with a smaller MP pool then I currently have if I used Serket Ring. With 968 HP and 968 MP, if I used Serket Ring over Electrum that I currently use, I'd end up with 938 HP and 998 MP. If I used Convert at this point, I'd end up having 937 MP instead of 968 that I currently get from Convert. Thus, I actually lose 30 MP from my converts, not gain 30 MP.

I don't really mind using Dia III on mobs. I cast it as often as I can. I usually ignore Slow II and Para II though. the only time I bother casting them is against the wyverns, since like you said, those can be dangerous.

I have both levled, and I can tell you that you're right. I prefer main healing as WHM, because its so much easier then main healing as RDM. Hell, as WHM I even have time to Dia II all mobs and Banish III Jnuns

You're not understanding what I'm saying, I'm talking about initial MP to start the camp only. I thought Rappa pointed that out. So before you Convert you would go back to 968/968 gear ratio. Thats why I said you can use Regen on yourself if your HP is not full before you are going to Convert. Since theres plenty of HP to MP gear, 125 HP to MP from gear vs using 15MP from Regen I (restores 125 hp) to gain back the hp you lost is a net gain of 110 MP to start the party.

Yeah, well, I don't really put serket ring to have 30 more MP at the start of a 3-hour party the highest on my priority list.

Theres other gear that I mentioned besides Serket Ring lol, Zenith for one.

Not to mention how often you head out to a pt where either someone dies, has to go afk, etc and you actually do have time to rest. Of course, when I merit cannon and I'm on my whm I have tons of time to rest because I don't have to waste my time casting Refresh, curing twice because I'm stuck with Cure IV, etc so my max mp actually matters. :P And of course, I almost never drop below half of my max mp pool on whm so I don't even need frivilous things like Convert in the first place. Oh, and with maxed cure casting time merits and cure clogs, my Cure Vs are faster than a rdm's Cure IIIs. :)

in a cannon there only 1 person cast refresh on myself, and by not resting we have faster rection times then whm who has stand then cast which in that time the war is dead from rouge fire spit and a couple crit hits. So while your setting there with 5mp per tic refresh, I have 7-8 tic refresh 4-5 of that without rely upon a brd.(8th tic is with af2 hat, did not count dalmatica due to toughness to get) Rdm don't rest because they dont have to rest, the have 10 min of mp then convert for a never ending amount of mp. More so if we had to rest we could prob outlast a whm that way as well just for simple fact we got more refresh counts then you. Oh did i mention that when subbing whm we get can divine seal+convert + cure IV and be at full mp and hp agian.

edit: now if you was to go the approch that whm have R3 which make dieing less dreadful or fact that if fighting mob do aoe like flies they have curega III and IV then maybe could see but outlasting us not likely.

why? it unneeded and just extra gear that has to be carried around. From what I hear not even whm go max mp anymore. They stack up on mnd and healing magic gear so there cure are more potent.
