Anyone else find it hard to choose a job?

Yay! I'm not the only one!

It's not a race to 75. You like lots of jobs? Level lots of jobs. I'm sure your moogle loves your company. Also, the more jobs you level, the better you'll be on any of them in a party. Knowing yourself is a good trait to bring to a party, but knowing your party is even better. A blm who's dabbled in paladin, whm, warrior monk and bard will be a much better team player than a blm like me who's a one trick pony with only mandatory subs past dunes levels. If you level jobs as wanderlust and inspiration hit you, and just have fun along the way, you'll be 100x better a player than I'll ever be. Just have fun. 75 will be there when you get there. Took me over two years to hit 75. The best things come to those who wait. If you play levels 1-74 believing the fun is going to happen "when I level up" you'll never have fun. Have fun now. 75 is great, and a big sigh of relief when you hit the top, but the fun is in the adventures getting there.

You've brought up some good points here, and I thank you for it.
It's easy to forget to have fun. There's a lot of pressure in this game to get to 75, and for people like me, it's rough. I'm slow in all the games I play. I like to enjoy the scenery a bit and take my time. Online games make this a difficult way to play, due to the scoffs or shocked reactions I get when I say I've been playing 2 years. (*wince* yeah, I know)

I think I'm afraid to take any one job too far, in case I decide later that I don't like it or see something better. I'm also naturally curious and seeing other jobs operate in a party tends to spark my interest.

If I had to choose one, single job that fits me best... I'd have to say WHM.
My second choice would be RDM... due to the fact that they multi-task and they get that ungodly pimp hat. (I love that hat) ((no, really... I love that hat))

The others are probably just passing fancy.

BST was fun for a bit, but then I got lonely.

WAR was too ... I dunno... I didn't like having to level up so many weapons.

One-shotting rabbits with a bow got old fast... and I'm too poor to level RNG anyway.

THF was kinda fun, but I don't know how to pull, and SATA sounds like it depends heavily on other pt members... and it's hard enough finding pt members who know how to do their own jobs, much less how to help me do mine.

MNK was loads of fun solo, but far too simple in a pt.

BRD is fun, but I'm still kinda confused on what I should be doing.

BLM... err... fun for an hour, then it gets old and I start wishing I could cure for more. >.>

SMN is fun so far. Carby is a lot stronger than I ever expected, especially after leveling BST and being used to weak pets. I'm just confused about what the role of a SMN is in a pt. :/

NIN is unlocked and I even worked on getting Tenshodo fame for the scroll quests (probably not enough yet, but mostly there) The idea of being a NIN is probably a lot better than actually playing one.

PLD isn't unlocked but I really like the idea of being able to cure and protect others. Imagine: I see someone running from an orc... I can provoke it off of them and cure them, and my armor isn't made of cotton! That sounds awesome!

Ok, I need to stop rambling now. I should've gone to bed hours ago. Thanks again for the replies and advice.

Also, to everyone else in the same boat as me, good luck!!

*edit: Bed has a "d" in it.

BST pets weak? You've never experienced the greatness that is the Funguar Familiar, obviously. I love that little guy. BST is one of the best Pre60 DDs, period. You just have to remember that pets are a part of thier damage. BST alone will lag behind an equally equipped Warrior, but the right pet will push them far above. Last time I partied on BST, in the upper-mid 50s, I was doing4/5s the damage of a WAR/NIN, but adding in my Funguar Familiar, and they were only doing 2/3s of the combined BST/Pet damage.

It's a shame Funguar caps at 65 =/ For the 32 levels you can use it though, it's the best thing around really. Cheap and extremely effective. Definantly has the better sic roullette. Silence Gas and Dark Spore can pump out numbers that will surpass most weaponskill damage performed by any non-/thf party member and 2 Paralyze causing attacks are always useful.

That job level list sounds eerily like mine... Every time I unlock a new job, I go try it out for awhile. ...And I find I enjoy most of them, which means my time is split between ever more jobs. Just pray you don't get interested in all the crafts (at the same time), too.

I've just gotten accoustomed to ls mates who demand I "Pick a job already."

Hah, you and I lvl at the same speed. Seriously though, I have many different jobs of different lvls. I have had the same problem making up my mind too. One of the reasons my current favorite job is BLU, it can be very versitale, changing from pure DD in parties(dont have to be, but its what I am currently), to a soloing beast (how many jobs can solo those damn taurs (DC ones) in Phom. Aqeuducts), to a stun gun for Diabolos (lol, havent tried yet, but my static will be attempting 3-5 very soon). There are a few jobs with this much variety, but most are very narrow-minded. I found with Blm that the most fun I have had was on things like ZM14, where Sleepga2= god, lol. But that job became boring for me post mid-60's, when we rarely got adds, andall the bad whm's seem to dissappear (I've had to take care of Silena and Paralyna on a tank in one of my parties >.<). Still don't know how I made it to 75.

Bottom line, try all the jobs out, hell lvl a bunch of them, this game is about having fun, for some, reaching 75 on one job isn't the only way to have fun.

I love having control of a party. Samurai I controll the skillchain flow. Thief I controll the hate and pulling. Whitemage I basically run the party. I have to have controll because for some reason I feel we're more likely to be successfull (arrogant I little? unintentionally -.-;;) so what can I do? Oh well. ; ; These are fun. May level pld at some point.

It'd be interesting to have a party where a sam, thief, and whm were all playing this way and the blm was trying to get people timed for a freeze burst! ;D

Ribbing aside, when I played, I played monk because it made me feel far more alive than smacking the monster with a stick. There's something more satisfying about leveling up when you know that you're doing more damage because you've become more powerful, rather than because for some reason, you now believe you can pick up that slightly-different-looking scythe. Not that h2h weapons aren't the primary source of monk damage, but it just seems more intuitive . . . now you're strong enough to throw a punch while holding these heavy spikes.

Somehow it seems more realistic to me than thinking, "This scythe must be much heavier since it takes me 2 seconds longer to swing it around my body at something . . ."

As for monk in parties, I rarely see my character for the first 30 seconds if I'm first-voking because I swap gear so many times between chiblast, tanking gear and DD gear. Then there's the constant tinkering with the balance between str, haste and acc gear for tp gain, ws damage, etc. And frankly, it's nice that after the first three hours of exp'ing, you can afford to take a fade for 5 minutes or so, maybe lose track of when berserk and focus are alternating or if it's firesday for your fire ring macros set or lightningsday for your lightning ring macros set (once you get one when you come back to the game in 6 months . . .), and your temporary mental rest-break doesn't result in the mob wiping the party, so you can come back to the party that much more alert.

I also take a certain satisfaction in hitting Maat with a chi blast for over 700 damage on ten boosts. I still don't know how he didn't bite it after taking 1900 damage . . . whoever says he has your stats isn't including HP . . .

Anyhow, cheers whatever you decide!

Heh, sorry about the "weak pets" thing. I've only leveled BST to 8, and that's about the time I got lonely and switched to another job. Forest Hares really are weak against EM Orcs in Ronfaure at that level, and I was still having trouble getting charm to stick. I suppose I should have gone with the guide and just leveled to 10 or so without the use of pets but I was really curious about how it all worked.

I think I'll level BST on those nights when I feel particularly anti-social.

smash face, no pet, til lv15

No one needs a pt till then and bst can level faster just dealing the damage on their own.

I am a little suprised how it got lonely at level 8 though. Doesn't every job solo to at least 10? >.>

you can even tank the dunes, qufim and jungle if you want.

To answer the question, yes, lol.

I would first like to say that drg is my first job to 60, and will always be my favorite job :P. GOGO DRG.

However though heh, my job levels are...

72 nin
72 mnk(GTFO Delvl)
70 sam
67 drg
64 rng
60 pld
60 drk
60 bst

And now currently lvling COR to 60+

My playtime is almost 365 days of playtime (I don't go afk for bazaars or nothing like that, i only leave the game on if i fall asleep) :|

While soloing to 10 is considered easier/faster.. tbh duoing is a lot more fun. You can slam EM's down in seconds and get chain 5's in some areas. I love duoing level 1 jobs.. sadly I have only two left.. lolpup and cor.. neither will I ever care for. :/

Plus, some people love social interaction :D all the time x.x

Well I have been playing since PC release with a couple breaks here and there. That being said I have never had a job over level 42. Late October will mark 3 years and I have really accomplished nothing. Go me! ^^ I always end up rerolling characters and I really can't figure out why. I believe I have played at least 12 characters. I tend to gravitate to tanking jobs, mnk, and the pet classes (drg, bst, and pup).

War75
Nin75
Pld58
Rng55
Mnk50
Sam49
Drk43
Thf37
Whm37
Brd34
Bst29
Blm25
Smn14
Drg12
Rdm11

There's a reason I haven't unlocked Cor, Pup and Blu...

So ya, you'll switch back a forth a while probably for a good while.
Get a job to 75, then start all over :P

I generally solo jobs to 12, so BST only felt... worse I suppose, due to the fact that I didn't have any pt's to look forward to. Normally my goal is to get to ten, then put my pt flag up while soloing.

With BST, I realized that it'd be like those first 12 levels of any job... only all the time. Sometimes, I feel like soloing, but lately I've been more social. I'll probably level BST for a bit every time I have a really bad pt. At least until I get lonely again.

um look below to see my lvls so far... ya I like to switch a lot.

I'm having trouble picking my next job to level :(

My head says warrior, but my heart says "I'm bored of axes" :P

my RL friend tried every job under the sun except the ones he thought he wouldn't enjoy playing (basically just bst)....tried bst out and it's now his highest job xD

Yeah, I tried bst after I got blm to 75 just because it was really getting aggrivating seeing/hearing "JP Onry" every day. Didn't think I'd care for it much and figured I'd quickly phase out of it, but now I'm convinced that it's the funnest job in the game. :) No lfg, no shitty parties, tons of money and seals, can play drunk off my ass (and die because of it), it just doesn't get any better than bst. Just gets lonely sometimes.

When I get to 75 I'll stay up late some night and /punt you in a duo or something, or /poke your corpse when you die. Halifirien and I are still going to level/merit together from time to time at that point, but not nearly as much. Instead we'll probably solo more and spend more time working with other people.
